I’d change the kitchen cupboards and potentially install different doors out to garden... I really like it, DH thinks garden too small (family of 4).

@maggiefs its not awful awful but needs full redecorating, new built-in warbrobes and removing the wierd shower in an alcove in the main bedroom! The downstairs is recently done but upstairs hasnt been touched for a while! Definitely needs money spending on ot even if you love the red cupboards :-)

But we liked it overall but dont have the money or motivation for the work (2 young dc)

Newbie1999 · 07/06/2020 08:08

@Happycow How funny!! This house is at the top of our budget so a lot of work upstairs may well put me off!

@newbie1999 yes same for us. Its the cheapest detached house on the market in pound hill for a while, lots of pluses but its not the finished article. Its livable for sure but for us every single day would involve "cant wait until x y z is done!"

But also lots of pluses for crawley - bad areas sure and plenty of ugly houses but loads of up sides too. If the housing stock was 'prettier'it would be a lot more expensive than it is!

Megatron · 07/06/2020 08:33

I like the layout. I don't like houses with boxy rooms so it would suit me (I'd change the red though). The garden just needs changing to lawn for your DCs but it's not too small imo.

Glad I'm not the owner of this house, I would feel totally humiliated seeing people slagging it off online to be honest.

Make your own decision on the upstairs @Newbie1999. One persons idea of work is very different to anothers.

totallyyesno · 07/06/2020 08:39

I don't think the garden is too small! Plenty of kids don't have any garden and this is plenty big enough to play in.

Megatron · 07/06/2020 08:39

The house that MMN123 has linked to is beautiful, but I think far too small for a family of 6.

Itwasntme1 · 07/06/2020 08:45

It’s a family of 4. And I think the house mmn123 has linked is perfectly adequate for a family of four.

And much prettier than the original house.

Carolebaskins · 07/06/2020 08:49

They don't call it Creepy Crawley for morning. I wouldn't move there personally. Have a look at Horsham.

Noconceptofnormal · 07/06/2020 08:50

OP did you ever think about how the vendors would feel about starting a thread on their house and declaring open season on randoms slagging off their house.

Oooh I don't like the kitchen, I don't like garden etc. It's very hurtful.

I don't think Mumsnet should allow these threads. Yes, the advert is in the public domain, but the vendor is advertising it to sell, not to be commented on for sport.

If I could work out that you were the buyer that did this I'd refuse to sell to you on principle.

I suggest if you and your husband can't work out amongst yourselves whether you want to buy the house or not without asking randoms on the Internet you're not mature enough to be a home owner. HTH.

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 08:50

The thing is about the Croydon home although it's lovely it's very narrow and no parking . I'd find it claustrophobic. The Crawley one is big and airy but then I live in a large open plan house and love it . Walls and small rooms make me feel hemmed in !

dentydown · 07/06/2020 08:51

The kitchen doors may be wrapped, so it Might be a case of pulling off the plastic and finding some sober coloured doors underneath

Carolebaskins · 07/06/2020 08:55

Thing is though, you wouldn't get a house that big in Horsham or Southwater for that price. So it comes down the the age old 'location location location'

caperberries · 07/06/2020 08:58

I like the cherry (?) tree in the front garden

TenLun89 · 07/06/2020 08:58

I loveeee it, kitchen cupboard doors gotta go but it's beautiful, I'm just not a fan of red

Megatron · 07/06/2020 09:06

@Itwasntme1 Sorry, I thought she said 4 children, I misread the OP. I still think, although gorgeous, it would be too small. We're a family of 4 and it would certainly be too small for us.

Its called Creepy Crawley, because people are lazy.... Moving south you have Buggars (Burgess) Hill, Poohaven (newhaven or peacehaven, depending on how you are feeling). Bumbridge (Tunbridge) Wells You could say Whore-sham.

Nothing to do with the actual areas, just rhyming, or clever wordplay

the person selling the house has put it put there, and the more people that see it, the better.

They are selling it. Its not their child

My family sold a house once that the estate agent advertised on Facebook.

It generated a lot of comments, most positive but some negative. While it was possible to laugh them off - we all have different taste - it was a little hurtful when they commented negatively on Personal items which would be removed from the house after sale.

Russell19 · 07/06/2020 09:14

@Happycow glad you said that about upstairs as I was about to say it's odd there's no pictures of upstairs aside from 1 bedroom....

Cloudhopping · 07/06/2020 09:15

I think the house is fine. I live in West Sussex and I would urge you to look at Horsham and surrounding areas instead and perhaps avoid Crawley for all the reasons given above. Horsham is more expensive but really nice with great schools. I would take the hit in terms of the house size for a life in Horsham.

Megatron · 07/06/2020 09:15

What an obscure comment. @WellDidYa 😂 Who said it was?

They didn't put their house on Mumsnet to be picked apart on a public site. They put it with an estate agent who will have put it on Rightmove. I think that's very different. Crack on though I'd if makes you feel good.

Newbie1999 · 07/06/2020 09:15

Fair point, I was just interested in people’s thoughts (which have on the whole been positive - I also really like the house)!

Happy for the thread to be removed (not sure how this is done).

Crawley is a shit hole although Pound Hill, Crawly Down and Ifield areas are OK - obviously though because it's the least desirable place round here to live you get more bang for your buck. If however you want to live somewhere nicer you should look at Horley, Redhill or Reigate (expensive) or any of the surrounding villages ie outwood, Leigh, Betchworth. Dorking is also a really nice market town right off the M25 and cheaper than Redhill or Reigate but far far nicer than Crawley.
