I’d change the kitchen cupboards and potentially install different doors out to garden... I really like it, DH thinks garden too small (family of 4).

@Babyroobs

Seems an amazing price for a house that size in London unless it's a bad area or something.
Have you bothered to read this thread at all?
Rtruth · 07/06/2020 17:32

Love it, plenty of room for 4 people.

Big money, but for the area makes sense.

MacBlank · 07/06/2020 17:36

Yes it needs work, but nothing that has to be done immediately.

The garden is big enough, but needs choppi g up ... Maybe save up n get Charlie n the boys in (garden rescue bbc1) it also depends what you want to do in the garden? Perhaps the current owners held parties a lot?

Rooms are a good size, and nicely opened plan.

As for the kitchen, I'd only change the doors ... Save a fortune on a new kitchen n good units already there.

For us, it would be a bungalow, but that's cos were both disabled, but looks like a nice place.

@newbie1999 nothing would persuade me to live in Crawley. I live 20 minute drive away and we call it creepy Crawley. I've worked there and friends have lived there. All couldn't wait to leave. Far nicer places to live-Reigate/Oxted/Lingfield. All with great train links and much better schools

Tazmania77 · 07/06/2020 17:44

I've actually driven over there as I love that house too! Weird wall in centre of kitchen that we were told can't be removed and its very small when you actually view it. Lovely road and I still like it but my hubbie looked at room sizes (he's an estate agent but not selling this) and said rooms very small. I think the kitchen sells it though! Weird wall mirror in the hallway very strange addition imo!! Its a very pretty house

oohnicevase · 07/06/2020 17:46

Argh god why do people keep saying there are nicer places ??? You won't get a big '' house like that for that money in any of the surrounding areas!! OP obviously wants a big house !!

Leedsfan247 · 07/06/2020 17:50

Bedrooms are tiny only one real double, which is typical of a modern house. Depending on your position (eg cash buyer) make an offer. Chances are unfortunately lots of people in the area will be losing their job because of the proximity of the airport. That will increase the number of properties available and drive down the prices, sad but true. If you can wait - I would

Newbie1999 · 07/06/2020 17:51

@totalinsomniac Is Hayward’s Heath better, in your opinion?

gragdadio · 07/06/2020 17:56

@Newbie1999 you definitely should not buy this house - not because it isn't lovely (it is), but because you were daft enough to start this thread without changing your username. Don't you realise that your entire thread history is visible via a Mumsnet search or Google? If you tie it to your potential future address too you will have completely lost your anonymity.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/06/2020 18:08

People going on about Reigate .... that house would be about £800,000 there!! If not more. Totally different sort of area.

louleey · 07/06/2020 18:09

I think it’s lovely. Really like the layout, nice big open plan kitchen diner, a separate living area, ok garden isn’t amazing but there is usually something to compromise on. You could definitely make the garden a lot more appealing and I actually think I would grow to like the kitchen cupboards........

bellocchild · 07/06/2020 18:16

Have you looked at school catchment areas?

ArntNise · 07/06/2020 18:18

Do you need to be in London ?

Prices a little further north are cheaper..

Wicksteed Park is brilliant wicksteedpark.org

TrAin used to take 55mins but at the moment 1h15...

Oscarsdaddy · 07/06/2020 18:19

That’s a lovely house

The kitchen and family living area is stunning
Nice low maintenance garden, put that lawn mower on EBay

Go for it, great price

Lochroy · 07/06/2020 18:19

I didn't realise Reigate was such a nice place!

DaveTheDesigner · 07/06/2020 18:20

We are living in a 3 bed with two adult children. Your house would be roomy compare to ours. Definitely not too small. Loads of space.

DaveTheDesigner · 07/06/2020 18:21

@arntnise Crawley is about thirty miles south from London near Gatwick. It’s dirt cheap compared to London.

Its a really nice house in a lovely area of crawley op. But I have enjoyed scrolling through the comments saying how awful my home town is!! In my opinion there are plusses and minuses to every area of the UK. We have the airport close by but not on an immediate flight path, lots of lovely shops and restaurants, and I have relatives that love crawley for things they would normally have to pay for entry too such as worth park and tilgate park, and other friends and relatives in reigate and Horsham who choose to come to crawkey for the things to do and the shops, its got a bad rep from people that either have never lived here, or left years ago whilst admittedly it went through some rough patches or people that listen to the naysayers! That house is in walking distance of three bridges Station and is such a lovely area. Come and find out for yourself rather than listening to people trashing the place rather than the house!

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 07/06/2020 18:41

I think you can do better for the money

There are nicer places to commute from.

MarleyBarley18 · 07/06/2020 18:45

It’s lovely, not too much needs doing either x

BengalGal · 07/06/2020 18:46

I think you should rethink Crawley for all the reasons people have mentioned. Brighton is nice with a fast train to Gatwick. Or Guilford or any of the smaller towns on that train line to Portsmouth.

CambsAlways · 07/06/2020 18:49

Lovely house, not so good garden

RachelGreen5 · 07/06/2020 18:50

I think the slabs and stones make the garden look really drab and small. I think (if you could afford of course) that if you had a smaller patio/deck area and had a lawn put in or maybe artificial it would be much better. I think full slab gardens have an allusion of being small.

Nosuchluck · 07/06/2020 18:51

Where are these nicer areas that for the same money you can walk to a train station and get a fast and very regular train into London, live in a catchment area for very good schools? Hazelwick secondary school is an excellent school.
Horsham is a nicer area but a house this size would cost a bit more and the commute into London longer. I'm not sure I think Haywards Heath is nicer as only know parts of it but I know the commute is longer and more exoensive. Reigate is a lot more expensive.
