To book a UK holiday in August?

I can't decide. I want something to look forward to, and we've already paid (cottage in May cancelled). We'd be happy with the beach and walks and just being somewhere different, really. Is anyone else planning on going?

@DanielleHirondelle

To those who have booked holidays in the UK, assuming they go ahead, what will you do if you or any of your party develops symptoms of CV whilst you are away?
Highly unlikely. The infection rate is low. So low they can’t test the vaccine in this country. Anyway, I’ll be in the middle of a forest. I’m sure I’ll be fine

Depends if the severity of the symptoms, I suppose I'd travel home if possible (and if I felt unwell enough to want to be home) if really sever me is utilise the NHS services in the area I was.

Same as any illness whilst away.

cheeseismydownfall · 06/06/2020 08:59

@DanielleHirondelle, we've deliberately chosen somewhere only 1.5 hours away, so that if one of us did become ill we would be able to return home easily and in an isolated way (i.e no need to stop at services etc). Given that Covid doesn't typically require hospital treatment until people have been symptomatic for several days already, I think there is a very low chance that we would be in a situation of having to seek active treatment before we got home to our local hospital. We are in the Midlands and would have liked to go to drive to Scotland but ruled that out immediately because if we did become ill we could not safely get home quickly.

I've not booked anything until September, and know I can cancel without cost. I expect by August trips with overnight stays will not have restrictions, other than perhaps to a few UK locations.

Misty9 · 06/06/2020 09:30
@moveandmove I’m assuming no one from Norfolk is ever going to leave the county again? Yeah, right 🙄
Actually, they don't very much - it's why our R value is lower Grin

I might start looking for a holiday cottage then. Even as a single parent, so it's no holiday, it would at least be a change of scenery!

JudyGemstone · 06/06/2020 09:37

My dad wants to book France in August so we don't have to fly, it's a lot more open there already so am thinking of going for it.

StCharlotte · 06/06/2020 09:49

Once the overnight stay thing is dropped we're planning to visit family and friends in Yorkshire. And a friend owns a site with shepherds huts so we might have a few days there. We'll be insisting on paying full rate because he's lost enough money as it is.

Still mourning our trip to Greece in July though.

UncleShady · 06/06/2020 09:54

I wouldn't be trusting Forest Holidays to clean a cabin Grin Last time we went the cabin wasn't ready by check in and even then the kitchen was still filthy and they'd just turned the cushions over so you couldn't see the jizz stains on the other side - if they cant cope with cleaning visible marks like that how are they going to be with an invisible virus?

profpoopsnagle · 06/06/2020 09:57

We had some camping booked in the UK anyway and have full intentions of travelling if regulations allow it. Will also extend the trip to try and see family which we currently can't do. Much of the holiday will be the same as usual- beaches, cycling, walking, chilling and self catering, fairly low risk. Have added some bathroom equipment to our tent in case amenity blocks are close. WIll take dettol. If we catch it when we are away, will self isolate, get a test and act accordingly. Have worked in a school since this all started, so been exposed to risk throughout. Can't take holidays in term time, so it's either August or nothing.

kittiesattack · 06/06/2020 10:19

I have just booked a yurt in Wales for a few days at tbe end of July. They have said they will refund if lockdown is extended

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 06/06/2020 10:38

I am still clinging on hoping against all hope I make it to Elevenerife on the 23rd of August...If I can go I am going with DH and dd 8.

EnlightenedOwl · 06/06/2020 10:45

@moveandmove

I live in Norfolk and I notice lots on here have trips to Norfolk booked in. We have a very low number of cases, I hope this doesn't change when people start coming from all over the place.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣
GabsAlot · 06/06/2020 11:05

@Mintychoc1

We’re currently still committed to Tenerife in July (was already fully paid), but if that was cancelled I’d definitely try and book a UK holiday. Sadly I think by the time our Tenerife holiday is cancelled, everywhere in UK will be booked up
sorry if ive misread this somewhere but im sure canary islands arent allowing brits in-of course that could all change come july
33goingon64 · 06/06/2020 13:58

If we're allowed to have holidays in UK do you not think everyone will be flocking to the same places (looks like Cornwall and Norfolk from the examples)? People who normally go abroad will all be going there too. There won't be any quiet beaches!

Greydove28 · 06/06/2020 14:04

We have Spain booked in August and America end of October. Still waiting to hear of it is going ahead

GabsAlot · 06/06/2020 14:08

they will unfortunately leave it as late as possible to cancel in the hope that they dont have to give a refund

SpacePug · 06/06/2020 18:08

We've book haven, just mon-fri in September for a change of scenery. It will also be the last little trip away just 3 of us before new baby comes in December. So we will do some different walks and I am looking forward to it. It's classed as haven hideaway, which means restaurant is closed, no entertainment etc but that's fine by us

Teateaandmoretea · 06/06/2020 18:33

@33goingon64 I have not intention of flocking as you so pleasantly put it to anywhere there will be too many people.

33goingon64 · 06/06/2020 18:52

Tea, my point is that people are saying 'I'll be happy with walks on a quiet beach' and similar. People will be flocking to any beaches they can find, hence there may not a quiet one.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/06/2020 18:55

Why the use of ‘flocking’? Sheep flock people go.

And I’m not stupid I own an OS map Hmm

HesterShaw1 · 06/06/2020 20:39

I am so over the word flocking. When did the verb 'to flock' become a synonym for 'to go'?

Holidayaddict · 07/06/2020 08:47

Took the plunge this morning and booked a week late July in a cottage with cottages. com. Balance not due until 3 weeks before and fully refundable if restrictions aren't lifted by then and we can't go. I'm cautiously optimistic. It's in a secluded location near no other houses except 1 other holiday cottage. Was tempted by another one in the middle of a lovely village with pubs etc but decided secluded is better on this occasion!

Yerroblemom1923 · 07/06/2020 09:04

We're hoping to see family in Cornwall in August, just all depends on when we're allowed to drive more than 90mins and stay overnight and the 2m distancing is removed.....

rookiemere · 07/06/2020 09:10

Holidayaddict I'm pretty sure UK holidays will be ok in August, fingers crossed for you.
