To book a UK holiday in August?

I can't decide. I want something to look forward to, and we've already paid (cottage in May cancelled). We'd be happy with the beach and walks and just being somewhere different, really. Is anyone else planning on going?

We’ve booked a Holiday holiday in Dorset in August. We fully intend in going if at all possible.

Leah2005 · 05/06/2020 15:41

We booked a week in August (months ago) to go to a chalet in Cornwall. We are walking the sw coast path so desperately hoping we can still go. Happy to take food with us. It won't be the same as usual but at least we will be away from work and getting some walking done.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 05/06/2020 15:56

If you can book something that you can cancel without losing your money (or at least only a minimal deposit), why wouldn’t you? Personally I think holiday villages etc. will be falling over themselves to get people in as soon as they can. None of them can afford empty space at the moment.

Nosuchluck · 05/06/2020 16:01

I've just booked a UK hotel holiday for next month, I'm excited to have something to look forward to. I had to cancel a May and July cruise so have saved really a lot of money.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/06/2020 16:03

Are you all happy travelling to different areas where the infection rate may be significantly higher or lower than where you live?

I’m in Wales so still can’t travel more than 5 miles from home so we’ve not got anything booked, but the current rates of the virus varies hugely in different areas so this is a real concern for me.

rookiemere · 05/06/2020 16:05

I'd definitely book something OP. We've just moved our changed flights to Majorca in August Grin (we can change again if it's not possible) . Just book something cancellable or changeable.

Nosuchluck · 05/06/2020 16:05

I'm happy to travel, I need to get out and about.

HesterShaw1 · 05/06/2020 16:06

The risk, with infection rates falling as they are, is tiny.

Knock yourself out. Enjoy your holiday :)

listentoreason · 05/06/2020 16:09

I've booked one for September, I thought if I wait too long and things all pan out well, the demand for uk holidays will rocket and so will the prices. Worst comes to the worst it will get delayed until next year.

billysboy · 05/06/2020 16:11

I have a week booked at the Swan in Southwold 2nd week in August

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 16:15

Of course not.

We have one booked from months ago, I fully intend to go if possible. It will be a change of scene and we like the outdoors.

schoolsoutforcovid · 05/06/2020 16:17

Everyone flocking to Norfolk, it'll be heaving. And wet

Nquartz · 05/06/2020 16:20

We've of an air bnb booked for end of august by the sea, well go if we can. We'll take our bikes, all of our food so we don't need to go shopping. We hope the weather will be good enough to go to the beach or bike ride everyday as we expect some/all of the stuff we'd planned might not be open. We'd just like a change of scenary!

Staying thay, I'm not sure if book.something now unless it had a good refund policy or something like a forest holiday where it is outdoorsy

hopeishere · 05/06/2020 16:22

I'm debating this. Concerns as a pp said are nothing being open eg NT places. And having to eat in all the time. I can just about cope with that but it's nice to have the option to go out.

Was taking to a doctor today and they were predicting an increase in infections in July. So that's now also putting me off.

Nquartz · 05/06/2020 16:23

@Twigletfairy i'd give anything to be able to go to Butlins at the momgny, we're so bored Grin

Nquartz · 05/06/2020 16:24

Alsohuman · 05/06/2020 16:28

Back in January we booked a cottage in the Dales for September. We’re really hoping we can still go.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 16:30

I think you need mystic meg tbh for this type of prediction.

Nosuchluck · 05/06/2020 16:31

I thought restaurants were opening from July onwards and takeaways are still open. I've had two days doing distal walks and having fish and chips lunches, it's been lovely having a change of scene and still following all the rules. I'm imagining my UK holiday will be like my days out with the addition of a cooked breakfast each morning and dinner in a social distanced restaurant.
I couldn't have imagined this would be a been possible even a month ago but now I can see we're coming out of lockdown and into the next phase which in a way is more difficult than lockdown.

schoolsoutforcovid · 05/06/2020 16:33

Which restaurants are opening in July? I live in a tourist area and not one restaurant has yet announced plans to do anything other than takeaway.

dicksplash · 05/06/2020 16:35

We have a uk break booked in August and really hoping we can go. Pretty much planned to be self catering and walks/beach anyway.

Only potential issue if its two families going.

We are self isolating except for essential shopping (which is click and collect right now). Come august my family can pretty much self isolate before too.

Meadowland · 05/06/2020 16:36

We're also going to Dorset.
Tourist areas have suffered so much through no trade. It's good to support them.

notangelinajolie · 05/06/2020 16:40

Please stay home. Lockdown may be lifted and people back at work but I think we should all still minimise the risk of this virus spreading. If we all went on holiday this August I think there would be a very good chance of that happening. Don't add to the risk.

LydiaDusbyn · 05/06/2020 16:40

Great, as long as it goes ahead you have something to look forward to. Just check that a refund is possible. Plus, the amount of people who feel scared or vulnerable about going too far from home etc will no doubt stay at home and allow for social distancing for the rest of us who do go out. Same will apply to pubs - extract the number of people you hear saying they are too scared to go to work or send kids to school from the rest of us and social distancing in pubs should be 100% possible until things get fully back to normal.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 16:41

@notamgelinajolie I will be following the current advice ♟
