To book a UK holiday in August?

Thurlow · 05/06/2020 13:26

I can't decide. I want something to look forward to, and we've already paid (cottage in May cancelled). We'd be happy with the beach and walks and just being somewhere different, really. Is anyone else planning on going?

Booked 2 nights in Aug, did it last week. Just couldn't stand having nothing to look forward to any longer. It's amazing the difference it's made to my mood. Even if it gets cancelled I don't care. The covid cancellation policy on the accom is very reasonable. Most importantly the benefit to my MH is huge.

Yes we have - a week away in August. Many campsites and cottages, glamping etc already fully booked (with provisional / covid rebooking guarantees). We can rebook for 18months if it's cancelled and only paid deposit, balance due 2 weeks before if going ahead, social distancing measures in place (lodge). Know lots of people that have too, seaside apartments etc.

We’ve booked and will be going if allowed.

Will avoid Cornwall though. The R rate there looks like a nightmare and I wouldn’t want to catch anything.

@hopeishere

I'm debating this. Concerns as a pp said are nothing being open eg NT places. And having to eat in all the time. I can just about cope with that but it's nice to have the option to go out.

Was taking to a doctor today and they were predicting an increase in infections in July. So that's now also putting me off.

There was apparently going to be a huge spike after VE day.

Apparently the Oxford vaccine trial is moving to Brazil because there's not enough infections in the uk

I have had an email today from the company who I let through saying that the Government has set n "ambitious" target to have the holiday sector back up and running on 4th July. We shall have to wait and see.....

I think we might try and book something for the October half term

We had a trip cancelled for the end of July... Caravanning site in Scotland. So we've booked somewhere about 2 hours away at a new campsite with only 5 pitches and water/electric on every pitch so we don't need to go near anyone else there. It's also turned out half the price of the first campsite so we're happy. And close to a beach.
Were prepared to do shopping before and stay in caravan or go for socially distanced walks...just a change of scenery will be lovely.

If it's cancelled it's cancelled...then we have a week booked in sunny (haha) October to look forward to.

I live in Norfolk and I notice lots on here have trips to Norfolk booked in. We have a very low number of cases, I hope this doesn't change when people start coming from all over the place.

@moveandmove I’m assuming no one from Norfolk is ever going to leave the county again? Yeah, right 🙄

Who knows, but if the government gives the green light then people will travel.

Our rate in London has reduced greatly, can you imagine us saying don't come?

@LongLiveTheQueenBee that sounds exactly like what I've been looking for but can't find!

If quarantine doesn't go ahead, we plan to go to our family villa in Spain on 11th July.

And then again in October.

But if it does, it will be a UK camping break for us in July.

We looked on pitch up and by pure fluke found it. Best thing is it has no shower block (which most campsites seem to be closing anyway in light of covid) so was half the price of our cancelled booking. £15 a night for 2 adults, 2 children, dog, awning, electric, water on pitch.

I never said don't come to Norfolk did I Hmm Surely it's only natural to worry about the risk increasing when other people come in when we've got a low rate at the moment.

I know at least one holiday resort in Cornwall (Bude) is opening on 4th July. I am being extremely optimistic and still hoping to go abroad in August.

Equally when people from Norfolk go away and come back. I live near a ‘beauty spot’ half of freaking Birmingham has been here. We are still alive. Norfolk isn’t special.

@underneaththeash

"why? The government just needs to force them to open."

Do they? Ok, that's fine, and irrelevant.

But the fact that they have tightened their measures in some places today might give people the idea that we are "heading for a stricter lockdown"

What on earth are you talking about? 🤷🏻‍♀️♟

What's with all the "what on earth", it's not a fucking alien concept 🤪 I'll say it again slower just for......

Today, several councils withdrew plans to open schools due to a rising R rate. This could be the reason that a pp earlier assumed measures are beginning to tighten again. But you know.....I'm making a huge leap there apparently that you can't even begin to fathom Hmm
