I can't decide. I want something to look forward to, and we've already paid (cottage in May cancelled). We'd be happy with the beach and walks and just being somewhere different, really. Is anyone else planning on going?

There won’t be another lockdown. That’s why test and trace was introduced. It will prevent it and only people who have come into close contact with a positive case will isolate.
If you don’t want lockdown, participate in test and trace.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 20:37

Er no 🤪🤪

Several councils didn’t open schools because they are foul male-led institutions who couldn’t give a shiny shite about children and their education

Have some more 🤪🤪🤪

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 20:38

I'm making a huge leap there apparently that you can't even begin to fathom

No, you can’t begin to ‘fathom’ that men want pubs open and see schools as a waste of this made-up ‘r’

The ONS says cases have halved but some people are determined to keep those glasses half empty.

londonschool · 05/06/2020 20:40

@understandmenow
Yes, Holidaycottages.com

Legoandloldolls · 05/06/2020 20:43

I'm still waiting to see if our TUI holiday will go ahead in July ( unlikely not least because of isolation on return) but if my dd doesn't go back to school in September and they still arent giving fines out, I might take my son out of school for a week and go somewhere. Not sure where but def not Cornwall. If schools not back properly by then I might.

schoolsoutforcovid · 05/06/2020 21:10

@Teateaandmoretea are you ok? It's now power hungry men that are closing schools, it doesn't matter who is or why or even whether the R rate is made up.

The fact is, the reports of this happening have understandably led some people to assume the lifting lockdown process will be slower.

I'm not one of those people but I was happy to defend a pp who was being given some MN "where on earth" bullshit, no doubt accompanied by a head tilt.

I think you may have put the tea down and hit the gin. Have a good one Confused

schoolsoutforcovid · 05/06/2020 21:11

"Men want pubs open" Hmm where do you live? The 1950s? Grin

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 21:16

Nope I live in reality Wink

forrandomposts · 05/06/2020 21:17

We're going to Norfolk in 4 weeks!

LetsAllGoOnHoliday · 05/06/2020 21:39

Men want pubs open

I’m female and I want the pubs open!

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 21:44

@letsgoonholiday you are taking me literally. My point is that children don’t have a voice and adults do. A lot of adults see schools going back as a waste of the r. To be fair I want pubs to reopen too Wink

DanielleHirondelle · 05/06/2020 21:48

To those who have booked holidays in the UK, assuming they go ahead, what will you do if you or any of your party develops symptoms of CV whilst you are away?

SeaOtterFluff · 05/06/2020 21:48

We're planning on camping in the Cotswolds in July. DH and I have carried on going to out to work throughout the pandemic, not frontline but super busy covering furloughed staff. I will be gutted if it's cancelled as we're exhausted. A break at home won't be the same. Camping is outdoors, we cook our own meals and other than showering we'd be on our own.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 21:50

@DanielleHirondelle we’d go to Barnard Castle 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well maybe not it’s a bit of a detour we’d go home and not stop on the way.

BringPizza · 05/06/2020 21:52

I live near a ‘beauty spot’ half of freaking Birmingham has been here. We are still alive. Norfolk isn’t special.

I also live near a spot the Brummies flock to and shockingly we are all still alive too. Some people in touristy spots think it's ok for them to go away and bring the virus back, but it's not ok for outsiders to bring it in.

VerbenaGirl · 05/06/2020 21:55

We are not paying the balance for the week we had booked in Cornwall (1st week in Aug in central Falmouth), so will lose the booking and our deposit - too many of the things that make holidays special for us will either not be available or hard work to access, plus difficult to social distance in that location. I didn’t want to pay the rest of the money and just not have the holiday we want. Also, I don’t feel comfortable with the pressure that the health system in the West Country is likely to be under if all the displaced holidaymakers flock there. Sad, but know it’s the right decision for us.

FuckingWaffleDoggy · 05/06/2020 21:55

Providing wales will let us in (we currently live in England) we'll be going back to see friends and family in august as our holiday. We usually stay in the same hotel not far from the beach so it counts as a holiday too.

TheGreatWave · 05/06/2020 22:14

Our holiday is already paid for with Cottages.com who has been really good so far about transferring the money to another booking.

Same for us - ours is booked for August, no intentions to cancel. If it does get cancelled then I will transfer the booking elsewhere - if it doesn't have to be the same place I know exactly where we will be booking instead.

We don't go out for meals really - so if cafe's etc aren't open it will be ok. It is 2 months away - so I am not going to really try and predict how things will be by then.

TheOnlyAletheia · 05/06/2020 22:16

I live in North Norfolk and have 3 holiday lets. We’re planning for early July opening. The local coastal areas are preparing for the travel lockdown to be lifted at that time, and are preparing for visitors. There is loads of outside space, beaches and countryside to use. The r rate is lower in some urban areas than Norfolk.

NoClarification · 05/06/2020 22:40

I live in a v touristy city with visitors from all over the world. I'm sure covid came here from all over the place, but I didn't notice anyone suggesting it was the fault of the tourists. The idea of thinking visitors should 'stay away' to preserve the locals is something that seems to only occur to highly insular areas which -ironically - rely utterly on (mostly UK) tourism. Imagine the reaction were Londoners to ask Cornish people to stay away?!

SaigonSaigon · 05/06/2020 22:51

Good point @NoClarification

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 05/06/2020 22:59

I've just moved my April booking, to September,, and thinking about taking a chance on booking a week in July as well. It's a small farm in Sussex, so only an hour or so drive away.
I usually go there three or four times a year, so if I have to move to next year it wikk be a shame, but won't make too much difference - there;s a price match deal for moving bookings.
It will be a shame not to be able to have lunch out, but I normally cook at home in the evenings anyway because its a bit remote & have to drive
Supermarkets probably safer than at home because they're all huge, the size of aircraft hangars.
Fingers crossed. Smile

understandmenow · 06/06/2020 05:53

Excellent post @NoClarification

Teateaandmoretea · 06/06/2020 06:12

Yes absolutely no clarification

StarlightLady · 06/06/2020 07:12

I would book with someone offering free cancellation, and make a final decision nearer the time.
