To book a UK holiday in August?

I can't decide. I want something to look forward to, and we've already paid (cottage in May cancelled). We'd be happy with the beach and walks and just being somewhere different, really. Is anyone else planning on going?

I'm sure you're absolutely right, @understandmenow about some tourist-dependent businesses welcoming holidaymakers back. We live in a National Park and I was talking from experience and from the news more about local residents, emergency services and rescue volunteers, council workers, businesses not tourist-dependent and so on who want day visitors and holidaymakers to stay away for a while longer yet, especially the visitors who have caused so many problems and worries in recent weeks.

I live in Wales and the Welsh government has said don't expect holidays this year. Ridiculous considering the rest of the UK will be opening and tourism is a lifeline to so many places in Wales. Alot of businesses here just won't be able to carry on

I'm going to Norfolk on July 4th...was booked and paid for before COVID hit. Unless lockdown is extended and the company cancel I probably won't be able to get my money back.

I'm praying it's not cancelled. 3 of us are NHS workers and it's fair to say we're exhausted

When would you travel? I’m sure trains will be operating in higher numbers and you would need to precook in advance so carriages aren’t crowded. We’ll need to wear face masks throughout the journey too.

We've just had an email inviting us to book a holiday cottage or hotel from a company in rural England, starting from mid-July. We won't be taking them up on it. I can't see visitors and holidaymakers being welcomed by most locals yet, especially with the horrors they've had to put up with from daytrippers since Boris relaxed lockdown travel several weeks ago.

We’re in Wales, still limited to only travelling 5 miles to see one other household in the garden so the idea of any sort of summer holiday seems a very long way off to me!
Hope you get something sorted and don’t end up out of pocket.

@muchtoomuchtodo. I am looking at Plan B transport options.

I would prefer not to sit down for five hours in a fixed position with no access to buffet car &/or toilet.

We may have to chew grit & foresake our deposit. The date to pay the full balance is looming, already cut from eight down to five weeks before the start date, & with no clear cut indication that beaches, public loos, shops, castles etc are open for visitors, the uncertainty hangs heavy.

Could you borrow or hire a car? It’d be a lot safer than using public transport.

Some campsites, holiday cottages & parks are looking to open in Cornwall from July onwards.
Eden, Heligan etc opening up for pre-booked visits.
Outdoor spaces for pubs, cafes etc can possibly open soon.

I'm sure we will be seeing more visitors down here soon, and I think most people will welcome it - I will as I want my local communities to retain our local businesses.

We're hoping to see family in Cornwall in August, just all depends on when we're allowed to drive more than 90mins and stay overnight and the 2m distancing is removed.....

you can drive longer than 90 mins or are you in wales

Took the plunge this morning and booked a week late July in a cottage with cottages. com. Balance not due until 3 weeks before and fully refundable if restrictions aren't lifted by then and we can't go. I'm cautiously optimistic. It's in a secluded location near no other houses except 1 other holiday cottage. Was tempted by another one in the middle of a lovely village with pubs etc but decided secluded is better on this occasion!

Tea, my point is that people are saying 'I'll be happy with walks on a quiet beach' and similar. People will be flocking to any beaches they can find, hence there may not a quiet one.

We've book haven, just mon-fri in September for a change of scenery. It will also be the last little trip away just 3 of us before new baby comes in December. So we will do some different walks and I am looking forward to it. It's classed as haven hideaway, which means restaurant is closed, no entertainment etc but that's fine by us

If we're allowed to have holidays in UK do you not think everyone will be flocking to the same places (looks like Cornwall and Norfolk from the examples)? People who normally go abroad will all be going there too. There won't be any quiet beaches!

We’re currently still committed to Tenerife in July (was already fully paid), but if that was cancelled I’d definitely try and book a UK holiday. Sadly I think by the time our Tenerife holiday is cancelled, everywhere in UK will be booked up

sorry if ive misread this somewhere but im sure canary islands arent allowing brits in-of course that could all change come july
