You're white you haven't experienced racism 2 *title amended by MNHQ at OP's request*

I started a thread in the early hours.

I fell asleep Blush
I've checked the thread and it's full.

Whilst the thread sadly proves my OP, there were a lot of great posts and understanding by some MNers.

I think this discussion is so important and I'd like to continue.

These photos sum up the ridiculous responses.

Do not tell me I am doing my oppressed race a disservice
Your racial prejudice faced as a white person do not trump the daily racism and fear for our lives

Finally, if your response to this is to explain your tiny grievances of racial prejudices you've faced then you are wholly part of the problem.

The racist behaviours and thoughts by your people is the problem. It is your duty to understand and tackle it. I repeat, it is not the duty of black people to educate you.

Try this title:

'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race'
Book by Reni Eddo-Lodge

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 05/06/2020 00:41

Yes you can. White people make up 81.9% of people in the UK. You can change far more than we can. 81.9% of people. 81.9% votes.

Doesn't work like that though does it? How many of those 82% are eligible to vote? Then we have constituencies so the make up within each constituency is important. Some of the London boroughs where I live have a high BAME population, so it's important that they vote. On top of that, we need to have the right candidates standing. I can use my vote to vote against racism. Who do I vote for if no one eligible is standing?

Who said I don't engage? You've made that up.

You said it. Is asked if you use the political process and you said it's not your fight.

Leeeeeyaaa · 05/06/2020 00:41

@PatricksRum it’s a really good film, I watched it a number of years ago now. It’s a good starting point for people that want to learn more. It’s very emotional & raw.

Whataloadofshite · 05/06/2020 00:41

For anyone who struggles to get through books (I have been recently because my stress levels like everyone else's have skyrocketed and so reading can be slow), I suggest trying audiobooks over physical books. I can go about my day and listen on the go. Both of the books I have suggested are available in audiobook format.

Dreep · 05/06/2020 00:43

And what colour of hurting woman am I?

Or are you just assuming I’m white?

You don’t know me, my struggle, the struggle of family.

But fine. I am allowed an opinion. No matter what colour I am.

I think this thread is divisive when it really should not be.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 05/06/2020 00:43

It's your duty as a white person to help this.

And I try my best every day. I assume you too are also.doing everything you can do to challenge inequality in society, fighting for disability rights, for women's rights, to end poverty because as a citizen that's your duty.

creativecringe · 05/06/2020 00:44

Re-education yourself. One thing you can do is by developing critical thinking skills. Think about how you say things,
1- is it inclusive
2- why are you being judgy about race?
3- what made you think the way you did about another race?
4- bad feelings about another human being, are they just a horrible person? If they were white, would you have treated them the same way?
5- look around the office. Who is friends with whom and why?
6- if you are part of hr, what happened the last time BAME person made a report? What was said and how was it managed? Does it follow government guidelines or did you all decide, even though uncomfortably to sweep it under the carpet in order to to cause a fuss.
7- what sumtions did you make regarding the names on the cv? Why do you want a name like other than theirs?
8- why are you hell bent on straight hair being cultural appropriation and not assimilation?
9- why dismiss mysognior in feminism?
10- what makes humans exotic ?
11- on netflix, prime and the lot, why do you choose the movies you do?
12- what benefit is the magazine and blogs/vlogs/insta influencers you choose and what demographic? If different to yours, please make sure you go back up above and analyse why to make sure it's not falling under exotic.

13- when swiping on tinder, dating sites and the lot, ask your self why them when it comes to race?
14- ask your self why you hate inner city schools even the really good performing ones.
15- if you read lots of books, dont just stick to authors you know. Sometimes these are not by chance that you know them. This is not taking away from the works of famous ot niche greatest writers.
16- dont just watch characters on tv/film. Ask why they used them instead of someone else. These decisions where not made out of thin are.

My hands are tired! PHEW!

Whataloadofshite · 05/06/2020 00:45

Christ..

Won't somebody please think of the white people! 🙄

PatricksRum · 05/06/2020 00:45

@Leeeeeyaaa If you like that you'll like Detroit. Based on a true story. It's brilliant.

This is not a debate
AIBU is always a debate. It’s not a platform to spout and //spit aggression at people.

There is NOT a level playing field. Come and talk about your experiences of racism when you're afraid for your children each time they go out, or you're wary of travelling or relocating because you might be ostracised or even attacked, or you're followed around shops every week, and people constantly expect and communicate you'll amount to nothing because of the colour of your skin. Where you're afraid of the police killing you while you go jogging or sleeping at home or walking home from work.

Well you conveniently fell asleep there on very massive points. The above fits for the Irish, just fine. Not a race, same difference, it can’t just be dismissed. Big place this world, you know.

And even if you're in a country facing racist acts toward you as a white person you know you can go somewhere else where you'll be fine. same applies to every race/culture/people/community.

PatricksRum · 05/06/2020 00:47

Lord. Even if only 50% are eligible to vote there will be a great majority that are white. What's your point?

You said it. Is asked if you use the political process and you said it's not your fight.
No. I said it's not my duty to reverse racism. I did not say I didn't vote. Stop making things up.

Well ten things on that list don't apply to me. Not sure what to make of that.

Anyway, op has done what they set out to do, so goodnight.

PatricksRum · 05/06/2020 00:49

And I try my best every day. I assume you too are also.doing everything you can do to challenge inequality in society, fighting for disability rights, for women's rights, to end poverty because as a citizen that's your duty.

Your posts are becoming more ridiculous. Stop turning this around on black people.
It isn't my duty to fight racism

OP posts:
Greyblueeyes · 05/06/2020 00:50

*I did say before about a fb post where black people were protesting. Some of the white people in the protest began looting and smashing car windows etc. They were pleaded with by the other protestors to stop. They refused. As a result, police attended and it was ended.
Again, if it isn't obvious, this is not the fault of every single white person. Lots are aiding and standing up against racists. That's great!
*
Yes, you have said this repeatedly, OP. Some people just don't want to listen or care.

I forgot to say in my earlier post that a lot of the looters are white. It's been widely reported in the US. Once the protesters have left at curfew, the looters come in. There will always be people who want to destroy and loot. Let's not let this us from the true and peaceful protesters.

PatricksRum · 05/06/2020 00:50

@packetandtripe Are you talking to me? Because a lot of those posts aren't by me.

OP posts:

No. I said it's not my duty to reverse racism. I did not say I didn't vote. Stop making things up.

Go back and read your own posts.

I'm really beginning to doubt your intentions here.

PatricksRum · 05/06/2020 00:51

@Greyblueeyes I thought I was going mad but you're right I have said it before. They're choosing not to read.

You told me I don't vote. Tell me where I said that. The onus is on you. You made the point.*

@Leeeeeyaaa you can get White Fragility as an audio book. And of course YouTube has everything. Maybe look up the author Robin DiAngelo I'm sure she'd have some talks. Or watch Blue Eyes Brown Eyes experiment. I'd watch the American version

JuneJulyAugust · 05/06/2020 00:53

A lot of your list will not apply to a lot of people.

PatricksRum · 05/06/2020 00:53

Where did I mention racism there?

I asked what you do to fight disablism, sexism, and poverty. Thats your duty as a citizen as much as it's my duty to fight racism and for all other inequalities too.

What has sexism has disablism got to do with this?

You're repeatedly bringing up articles, videos, that have no relevance.

@NotNowPlzz @PatricksRum

Thank you for the tips. I just watched “Detroit” Trailer. Looks great. I hope it’s on Netflix. Audio book sounds better for me. Thanks again x

EarringsandLipstick · 05/06/2020 00:55

Your posts are abusive, inflammatory and deliberately designed to incite racial division. Your thread title is a joke. You don't get to redefine the meaning of words according to your Newspeak dictionary. I am not white. I think your posts are offensive BS.

Excellently put. I've read both threads in horror at the sheer vitriol & aggression, as well as sheer lack of logic expressed by the OP.
