Student Uni accommodation.

The cheaper ones (i.e. share bathroom, standard quality) are pretty grim for £125-£150 per week. If you want en-suite and a bigger room, you're looking £150-£200 week. That's self catering, not even catered.

All Build-a-Bear accessories :(

ChicCroissant · 04/06/2020 14:49

I'm with the OP on cauliflowers - expensive and I seem to cut a fair proportion of it off with the stems and leaves which end up in the food bin. Similar issue with broccoli, the weighty bit we don't eat only the featherlight florets!

sofacushions · 04/06/2020 14:49

Dishwasher tablets- I buy mine by the box of 500 from Amazon. Currently around £32

Anything that's got the label 'special needs' on it is just an excuse to print money IMO.

Swing seat £150
Car seat £599- 3kish
Special seamfree socks £9.99 a pair
Mattress that's properly waterproof and will resist plenty of bouncing £375 and that's just for a single

Barkybarkynutnut · 04/06/2020 14:51

Decent scented candles

Janaih · 04/06/2020 14:52

Panami stickers- currently ensnared in their peppa pig racket.

Piriton tablets - I'll admit they work better but how when the active ingredient is the same? Witchcraft!

Pinkcat231 · 04/06/2020 14:52

Brand name sanitary towels, nappies and has anyone else noticed how rubbish Heinz beans have become lately?

Also, garden furniture, £1000-2000 for a garden sofa that’s actually in stock, wouldn’t pay that for one I can use all year round inside!

DancingFox · 04/06/2020 14:53

lol at someone thinking diamonds are "inexplicably expensive!"

Diamonds are literally billions of years old.

Yes at the end of the day they are a sparkly bit of stone but it's a rare, billions of years old, hard to find, hard to cut sparkly bit of stone.

BobbieDraper · 04/06/2020 14:53

@DoesJeffKnow

Your lightbulbs should not need replacing every year. I moved into my home 4 years ago... havent changed the light bulbs once.

My old flat had super high ceilings; like, 2 floors worth of height so changing those light bulbs required a professional to come in. I lived there 8 years; had the bulbs changed once.

You should really look into your wiring or the brand you buy because they are expensive and they should last!!

Janaih · 04/06/2020 14:53

@ChicCroissant I've seen someone rip off the stalks in the fresh produce section.

BobbieDraper · 04/06/2020 14:56

@Dillo10
I agree! Ebooks are stupid prices. You need to pay VAT on ebooks and you dont on printed books but it's still a huge price. You dont even own the book; you're only buying a license to read it. When you die, no one inherits your book collection. If Amazon ever lose to right to distribute the book, it is removed from your kindle and you dont get a refund. You're just paying to access it whilst they have the right to it. They really should be cheaper.
But authors still need the money I guess.

Change your ways! The Brocolli stem is the best bit!! Slice it and roast it fry until it's crunchy on the outside. Food of the Gods!
JoeExoticsTiger · 04/06/2020 14:57

Bags of compost - it’s literally dirt.

BobbieDraper · 04/06/2020 14:58

@ChicCroissant
Broccoli stalk is the best bit! Honestly.

Spiralise it (or slice into very thin strips) and cook it in olive oil with chilli, add a squeeze of lemon juice and it's a super tasty side dish. Dont throw the stalk out!

Fuss · 04/06/2020 15:00

@WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo that explains it then.

IncrediblySadToo · 04/06/2020 15:00

Diabetic test strips (bit niche I know, but being T2 I have to buy my own & they're bloody expensive. I could have drugs free, but not the strips that stop me needing the drugs!?!)

TheFlis12345 · 04/06/2020 15:00

@RuffleCrow Where are you paying £4 for a tiny pack of ginger?!? I got a massive lump in Tesco the other day for less than a pound.

And the poster whose husband paid £7 for Dettol wipes, that must have been an error as they are usually Just over a pound for a pack of 30.

IntermittentParps · 04/06/2020 15:00

Haircuts.

Hotels. Why is even a 'cheap' hotel about £100 a night and, in more 'luxurious' places, why on earth is it OK to charge hundreds of pounds for a bed with too many silly little pillows, a cramped bathroom, windows that don't open and a chocolate you don't want on your bed?

bluefoxmug · 04/06/2020 15:01

fencing sports gear.

That's shocking. Seriously. We waste too much food in this country. (I am assuming UK; happy to be corrected). Cauliflower leaves are delicious and the stems of both easily diced or sliced.

spiderlight · 04/06/2020 15:03

@bluefoxmug - God yes!!

bluefoxmug · 04/06/2020 15:04

agree about cauliflower - all parts are edible and delicious. apart from slicing off a milimeter of the dry stalk end everything gets used.

imsooverthisdrama · 04/06/2020 15:05

Oh I agree with those egg chairs , I heard people queuing from 1.30am in Aldi i mean why ?
Mine are decent running shoes in fact any running things if you want decent , I don't want brand but it's always expensive for decent running pants .
Also TGi Fridays , got a takeaway on lockdown and it was £50+ for 4 burgers & chips could of bought the same at local takeaway for half that .
Also a ladies colour & cut at the hairdressers nearly £100 for mine .
