plus it's not cauliflower season yet and there is/was a europe wide draught.

imsooverthisdrama · 04/06/2020 15:06

Also decent running bra £34 from bravissimo it's brilliant but still Shock. If only I was flat chested Grin

Disquieted1 · 04/06/2020 15:09

Has anyone mentioned kitchen roll?
Massive rip off.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/06/2020 15:11

Some people need to start shopping around.

I pay about a pound for 400 g of preprepared frozen ginger or garlic. Cheaper than fresh.

You can get hundreds of piriton tablets online for about a tenner.

A £1000 phone includes £300 of phone at most and £700 of 'look at me'.

Nearly every book on kindle will be 99 p sooner or later. Just sign up to ereaderiq.

If you don't like the inkjet business model, just get a mono laser printer and print any photos online. It's cheaper to do this anyway rather than buy photo paper and that's before you get into the rip off ink cartridge model.

Domino's pizza is shit, I wouldn't eat it at any price. We keep Crosta & Mollica pizzas, which are amazing, in the freezer now we can't get out for real Italian restaurant pizza. A bargain at about £4 each and no effort whatsoever to stick in the oven before the 'I order Dominos because I don't want to cook' step in.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 04/06/2020 15:12

Tin foil
Batteries
Christmas trees

BarbaraofSeville · 04/06/2020 15:13

Broccoli costs about 50 pence, surely no-one can object to the price of that Confused.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/06/2020 15:13

I was just going to add kitchen roll, although I use a cloth wherever possible
Decent quality bin bags are an eye opener too
I recently discovered Aldi heavy duty ones which are reasonably priced and the best I've ever used

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 04/06/2020 15:15

Also the morning-after-pill when purchased from a chemist- 30 odd quid for a single tablet.
I'd look upon that as spending a penny to save a pound. Times hundreds of thousands of pounds! Grin

omg, food & drink at cinemas!
I am always surprised when I see people laden with food and drink at the cinema. The cost is SO outrageous, when the exact same things can be bought for relative pennies. Starburst taste exactly the same from Asda as they do Odeon...

Has anyone mentioned kitchen roll?
Don't buy it then! I have a box full of cut up t shirt rags under the sink. They get used and either washed or discarded according to what I've wiped with them. KR is unnecessary.

JacobReesMogadishu · 04/06/2020 15:17

Gluten free bread. In fact gluten free anything.

But the bread is £3-£4 for a small loaf and is normally full of holes. The gf wraps are twice the price, half the size, taste like shit and are usually mouldy.

SerenDippitty · 04/06/2020 15:17

Yes to scented candles, Jo Malone are a ridiculous price you are literally setting fire to £50.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 04/06/2020 15:17

Clothes and shoe stores that offer payment by Klarna. They have all seemed to triple their prices and then offer payment over three months. Not so long ago one of those instalments would have been the full price.

SonjaMorgan · 04/06/2020 15:18

I grow some of my own veg and think most food is incredibly cheap.

I agree haircuts and colours are ridiculously priced.

Clothes and homeware from places like next. It's not like they are paying a fair wage to the people who make it and the quality is the same as Primark.

Branded painkillers, they sell in our local shop for about £4.50 a pack.

Happymum12345 · 04/06/2020 15:18

Bin bags

Immigrantsong · 04/06/2020 15:19

Childcare costs in comparison to other countries that subsidise this more.

Kids parties at soft play or other organised venues, including party favours and invites

Haircuts and hair colour, grooming in general

Public transport, sometimes more expensive than owning a car.

MittensTheSerpent · 04/06/2020 15:19

Academic books.

£150 for a pile of po-mo word salad!

Single chocolate bars and crisps. They are almost the same price for 1 as for a multipack.

SundayReilly · 04/06/2020 15:21

Electric toothbrush heads - those teeny tiny brushes
Razors
Dishwashers tablets
Chocolate even cheap stuff is now mega pricey
Cards
Tights

happytoday73 · 04/06/2020 15:21

@vickibee... Have you tried asda opticians? It's saved me an absolute fortune for my prescription

Agree on kitchen bins and printer ink

GivenchyDahhling · 04/06/2020 15:21

The entry level Louis Vuitton bags made of coated canvas - £1000ish for a (IMO) ugly bag, and it’s not even really made of leather, it’s plastic with the flimsiest leather straps!

Marmite27 · 04/06/2020 15:24

@Pinkcat231

Brand name sanitary towels, nappies and has anyone else noticed how rubbish Heinz beans have become lately?

Also, garden furniture, £1000-2000 for a garden sofa that’s actually in stock, wouldn’t pay that for one I can use all year round inside!

Heinz beans are horrible. Branston all the way. I was a dyed in the wool Heinz addict for over 30 years
Clevererthanyou · 04/06/2020 15:26

Prawns, fast food (£19.99 for two pizzas :/ ) cinema tickets in anywhere other than budget cinemas, football match tickets, wedding cakes.

PamDenick · 04/06/2020 15:27

I agree with take away/delivered pizza. Yes, cheese on toast is a more honest snack…

Repairs on anything. My sewing machine needed a basic service. £45. It only cost £50 to buy new.

In fact, my favourite part of my favourite programme (The Repair Shop) is there is no till.

Winnipegdreamer · 04/06/2020 15:27

Inhalers - having to pay to be able to breathe to be able to stay alive.

(I know they are very subsidised and would be even more expensive otherwise)

WaffleCash · 04/06/2020 15:30

@RiverRush drop an apple on the floor and drop a carrot on the floor and see which one comes off better. Even fruit like apples and oranges needs to be treated much more gently than root veg. I grow a lot of my own fruit and veg and it makes you realise how cheap fruit and veg sold in the supermarket is even the expensive stuff. Makes me laugh when people suggest grow your own as a money saving exercise.
