Saffron

Vanilla and saffron are both hard to produce and harvest. Vanilla flowers only bloom for a day a year or something mad like that, and have to be pollinated on that day or there won't be a harvest (I'm a little hazy on the details but I think I have the gist).

Saffron has to be harvested by hand and involves carefully picking out a very few fragile bits from the flowers.

So while I agree they're expensive, I can see why!

EVERYTHING if you have a disabled child.

Wheelchair £7K.
XBox controller and switches to make Xbox accessible, £160 (doesn't include Xbox price)
Clothing, £30 for a kids coat.
Chair £2-3K
Communication equipment (eye gaze) £4-8K
Communication Apps £300
Lycra suit £3K

Yes, the NHS funds some of these things, but they will go for the lower end cheaper products and make you wait 6-8 months. Charities will sometimes fund, but again a lot of hoops to jump through. You often just put things on credit cards or your child goes without.

King size duvet covers - was horrified at cheapest being £55 in John Lewis, I don’t understand!
Lego - as dc are 7 and 4 thought it a flood Rome to invest, bloody expensive for what you get in a box.

@Heartbreaker83 try Boundary Mill if you have one near you. Amazing bargains on brands like Christy and Sanderson plus loads more.

@Frauhubert drain unblocking liquid is a quid in Poundland. I need loads due to prehistoric plumbing! The exact same product is £££ in the supermarket next door!

Light Bulbs! used to be a pound or even less .Now supposedly "green " ones about a fiver!(dont last for 7 years or whatever ) ours need replacing at least once a year!
What the heck are you doing to your poor lightbulbs?! We've used nothing but energy saving bulbs since we first rented a house twelve years ago. We have only needed to replace two in that whole time - though we did choose to replace most of the CFLs with LEDs about five years ago.

if your lightbulbs blow once a year you need your electrics checked.
our led bulbs were 7 years old when we moved and took them with us and they are still going more than a year later.

@mintandcoral I once seriously considered buying a whole new printer rather than printer ink refills as it was so much cheaper. Ridiculous!

I created a new one the other day. I hate washing celery as the dirt gets caught in the little grooves on the back. I used a pastry brush to clean them and it worked really well. I was actually looking for a mushroom brush, which I always do before remembering we don't have one.
