Yes to Gluten Free food. DD is coeliac and everything is twice the price! Even supermarkets own. It's ridiculous really.

PetraRabbit · 04/06/2020 21:26

Strip wax. It's basically paper with a bit of waxy stuff on it in a small cardboard box and it costs about £10 a packet. I can't think of any other item that's as overpriced, not available in discount shops and never has a 2 for 1 offer.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/06/2020 22:24

£4 for a cinema ticket in the cheap cinemas near me.

You can get multivitamins for 50p to a £.

Strawberries are not £3 here either. £1 a punnet from the market and about £2 from the shop.

Loads of folk talking about the price of Razors. Do you know that if you clean off the blade after use on something like a piece of thick cloth (like denim) the blades will last for months. It's not that they get dull, they just don't perform well when they start to get clogged up and coated with shave creams, skin cells etc.

www.smarticular.net/en/this-simple-tip-will-make-your-disposable-razors-last-for-months/#:~:text=You%20can%20even%20use%20a,it%20another%2010%2D15%20times.

DH and my teens used to get about a week each out of a blade (Gillette type) and now they get around 3 months - saving a fortune. Saving even more now that the boys have beards Grin

GlummyMcGlummerson · 04/06/2020 23:31

Paw patrol toys. £35 for a plastic aeroplane, WTF
Scented candles
Baby formula - never bought it as I BF but a tenner a tin!!! That can only last a few days I presume?!
Slides for the garden - can't find a half decent one for under £70
Lego. £200+ for one set 😨

Crosswordocelot · 04/06/2020 23:32

*Overduesleep

Sudocrem*

...but it lasts for literally years, possibly decades!! I think I bought 1 tub when DD was a baby (and got 2 tiny pots in bounty packs) I never bought any more. It lasted for all the time DD was in nappies and for DS and I ended up throwing about 1/4 of it away when the youngest was about 8!😂😂

GlummyMcGlummerson · 04/06/2020 23:37

Concert tickets.

10-15 years ago most acts would charge £30-£40 for a ticket. Now the likes of Ed Sheehan charge up to £300, Little Mox £70 for a crappy 50 minute set, Elton John £300. Are the greedy fuckers not rich enough?!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 04/06/2020 23:38

Any kind of walking gear - waterproof trousers, jackets, hats. Why does it cost £200 for a jacket to walk in the rain?!

This My teen DD had wanted to go to a concert for a while, (before cv19 of course) but most tickets are £80+ , meaning that for 2 of us its going to be £200 upwards once travel is factored in....and dont get me started on food/drink prices in concert venues. You used to be able to take your own food and drink, then they changed to only drinks and they would remove the bottle lid. Now you cant take anything without carefully concealing it and even by MN standards if you left the house at 5.30pm for a concert stating at 7, and ending at 10, getting home at midnight you might just need something to eat or drink!!

SerenDippitty · 05/06/2020 00:17

Charlie Bigham ready meals. £7. They are lovely though, and not so bad as an alternative to a Friday night takeaway I suppose.

We paid around £25 for waterproof trousers in Mountain Warehouse last year and I got a nice waterproof jacket for around the same amount.

Tea Towels

Cath Kidston & Emma Bridgewater items

Butter

FrustratinglyFrustrated · 05/06/2020 00:24

Shampoo/conditioner. I used to pay around £2 a bottle before lockdown, same size and brand is close to £4 a bottle now.
Lucky charms cereal, over £5 a box in my Asda. The kids can make do with frosties (own brand of course)

Chocolatefixeseverything · 05/06/2020 00:29

Children's magazines, usually lured in with plastic crap toys. Any magazines to be fair tend to be 75% adverts, sometimes you just want a brain numbing read a book requires commitment lol

ActuallyItsEugene · 05/06/2020 00:29

@FrustratinglyFrustrated

Marshmallow Mateys! £2 in Asda and are the same as Lucky Charms.
Have also found actual Lucky Charms for £3 a box, plus the little one serving tubs for 99p, in B&M.

I was told it is because concerts is now where they make their money. In the past, singers/bands did not expect to make any money from tours but the tour was to promote a new album and they made their money on physical sales of CDs/vinyl. Now, the price each artist gets per download is just a few pence and many people don't even buy downloads now, just use streaming services or YouTube. Of course I am not suggesting poor Ed Sheeran, Elton etc are struggling to make ends meet but that is why concert tickets and merchandise cost more in relative terms than in the past.

Agree about the price of Chablis too. Can't remember the names of the posters who liked it but an alternative is Falanghina. It's Italian and a different grape altogether but it has that minerally taste. It doesn't taste like Chablis but just suggesting it as an alternative rather than a substitute. A bottle costs £8-11, rather than £15 (at least).

Wedding night knickers

roombadoyourthing · 05/06/2020 04:16

Baby clothes. Uses 1/10 of the material of my clothing but a Bonds onsie is like $30?!

Also bras. Tiny bit of material and some wire.

Cummingsandgoings · 05/06/2020 04:38

Baking powder.

Used to be a few pence. Now cannot find an own brand anywhere. Dr Oetkers is £1.50 a tub so if you need to replenish the bicarb as well it's £3 for the two!

Actually all cake making bits, colourings, flavourings, decorations, candles, liners etc have become super expensive ....long before lockdown.
