Anyone saying razors are expensive I highly rate FrictionFreeShaving. It’s a subscription service but I just cancel and then order when needed. £9 for your first razor + 4 blades and then £9 a month after for 4 blades, or you can do it bi-monthly or just cancel and order as and when like I do. The blades are really sharp and last ages, but I have NEVER cut myself while shaving with their blades - and I used to take chunks out of my legs (and my fingers and my nipple but that’s another story) not an ad or anything haha I just love them!

Cinema food is so expensive because they don't make much profit off the film itself, so they vastly mark up the food. People complain but still buy it! On a side note - never ever buy pic and mix from a cinema. Or anywhere 🤮

MariahLairy · 04/06/2020 18:15

@Lowprofilename I can't find a £5 safety razor on Amazon! Please show me where! I've given up shaving my legs over lockdown because of the price of razors!

MonsteraCheeseplant · 04/06/2020 18:16

Also, the books I buy often cost £40 plus but I'd pay more. They're so valuable. All the knowledge in the world for practically nothing. University fees would be a damn sight more. Books are amazing for what they can give you and you get to keep them forever. Bargain.

Tappering · 04/06/2020 18:20

I used to make all our curtains, tie backs, cushion covers. The price of fabric became insane, add on linings, hooks, header tape, zips. I worked out it was cheaper to buy ready made.

@justasking111 YY to this. I used to do a lot of dressmaking from scratch but the cost of the fabric is ridiculous. I've resorted to buying long and voluminous skirts simply to take the seams out and waistband off and re-use the fabric, because it's cheaper per metre!

BlackForestCake · 04/06/2020 18:20

Why are turnips and swedes really cheap but beetroot three or four times the price? They're all root vegetables.

Tappering · 04/06/2020 18:21

Plus when you add the cost of buttons, zips and so on - it's far cheaper to buy ready-made now. The only reason I keep doing it is because you get a better fit and result from DIY.

Tappering · 04/06/2020 18:22

Oh and yes also to fencing. So expensive.

TheFencePainter · 04/06/2020 18:24

Printer Ink. Apparently more expensive than blood!
Sun cream.
Men's underwear unless you look at THE lowest quality😳

whensmynexthol1day · 04/06/2020 18:28

For anyone upset about the cost of razors- aldi do a men's razor which is a mach-3 rip off. For about the third of the price and the blades refills are cheap too.

My husband couldn't tell the difference. I have one for my legs too and it works no problem so not just good for men.

cansu · 04/06/2020 18:32

T gel shampoo - dd needs to have this and it is 6.00 for a small bottle!
Cherries - v over priced.
light bulbs

DelphiniumBlue · 04/06/2020 18:33

Yes, mens underwear, bog standard 3 pack at M&S or similar was £18 - hardly stocking filler prices!
Also insect repellent - £10 now for Jungle Spray. Wilkos used to do a very cheap and most satisfactory version, but haven't been able to get it this year.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 04/06/2020 18:33

M&S sarnies

Home bargains used to sell this shampoo for much less. Not sure if they are open for you to get some for your DD. I know because I used to use this too.

Small bottles of fizzy pop. Daylight robbery in most places. Ditto small bottles of water.

ElectricTonight · 04/06/2020 18:39

Bbq rack of ribs hardly any meat on them!

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 04/06/2020 18:40

Caravans. Just a tin box, yes?

keepingbees · 04/06/2020 18:45

Strawberries. Usually about £3 for a tiny punnet even in season.

Cinema and soft play prices.

Hairdressers. I stopped going when I was paying £30 to have a mm skimmed off the bottom of my hair. About 75% of my appointment time was listening to her gossip.

Petrol/Diesel even when oil prices are low.

Fish. Even frozen white fish that cooks down to nothing is extortionate.

Gluten free food.

Car parking in my shitty town centre.

Swimming. I love swimming but at around £4 per go plus parking charges it's too expensive to be a regular thing.

vickibee · 04/06/2020 18:53

I think soft fruits are expensive because they have to be carefully handpicked and have a short shelf life.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 04/06/2020 18:53

Days out and kids activities generally.

Theme parks and attractions are utterly extortionate now. We have one child much younger than the others, who are grown up, and we notice he is constantly invited by his pals to go on outings; some kids seem to go every day in the holidays.

When our older ones were kids it was much cheaper, and even then a rare treat.

Nikhedonia · 04/06/2020 18:59

Brabantia bin liners. WTF? They’re literally made to throw away. Why are they so expensive?

Yes! It's about £15-20 for 100 bin liners. Madness and yet I still have two of their bins

Tappering · 04/06/2020 19:00

Small bottles of fizzy pop. Daylight robbery in most places. Ditto small bottles of water.

I love sparkling water and ended up buying a soda stream. Mainly because we were recycling so much plastic and I wanted to cut down, but it has saved quite a lot of money as well. The CO2 canisters are recycled for re-filling.

Swimming. I love swimming but at around £4 per go plus parking charges it's too expensive to be a regular thing.

Yes. I'd love to swim more regularly but it's the best part of a fiver at our local leisure centre.

Tappering · 04/06/2020 19:02

I've got two Simple Human bins and just buy normal bin liners for them. I refuse to pay the SH prices!

Warpdrive · 04/06/2020 19:10

Sofas and beds. I realise we mainly only buy them every decade or.so, but how is a padded, upholstered wooden frame so expensive?

LivingThatLockdownLife · 04/06/2020 19:18

A lot of these things can be found in Poundland Confused
