I've heard it all now "books are printed paper, that's all" Hmm

Bookoffacts · 04/06/2020 16:54

Wedding veils,
£200 for a flat piece of fabric!

Also highlights in hairdressers and all builders.

Ironing boards

Petrol

Diamonds

Fresh fish

biglittlemedium · 04/06/2020 16:56

Printer ink is a good one too

Manilove · 04/06/2020 16:57

Agree about brand label clothes. One thing that really brings that home is when they end up in clothing donations boxes and you get kids in refugee camps wearing superdry or whatever t shirts - the name clearly has no value.

*I live in the US and food is insanely expensive here.

Milk - $3.89 half gallon
Bread - $5.99
Chicken - $8.99 per lb
Raspberries - $4.99*

Where on earth are you living that milk is $3.89 per half gallon? It's more like half that in the places i've lived (midwest). Less than a dollar per litre

I'm not surprised, things cost what people are willing to pay to a certain extent. But remember with eating out you are paying for wages, rent, business rates, pensions, security not just beef and potatoes and coke!

formerbabe · 04/06/2020 17:01

Oh yes ironing boards definitely

Crosswordocelot · 04/06/2020 17:03

Any food or drink at 02...and probably other concert venues (£3 for a bottle of water?)

coffee and tea from a cafe/takeaway (it literally costs pence to make)

and yes to printer ink (i bought a wilko fake version but the bloody printer sussed it!!)

silver jewellery usually has way more mark up than gold

MashedPotatoBrainz · 04/06/2020 17:03

Watermelons. I got charged just over £6 for a tiny one in this week's shopping. Shock

CountFosco · 04/06/2020 17:05

Only fake Egg chairs are hundreds of pounds, the Real thing is thousands.

Pickles89 · 04/06/2020 17:08

Massages! I've never had one, but you're talking like £60 for an hour! Admittedly they do have to rub randomers with oil, and you'd want good money for that, but people gasp when I say I charge £15ph for childcare - wiping green snot and emptying potties isn't a whole heap of fun either!

MNOverinvestor · 04/06/2020 17:15

@vickibee

A ladies haircut when compared to a gent even if it is the same length.

The lenses in my glasses £150 each and no choice here with a complex prescription.

I felt that way (-8 and heading into variafocal) until I discovered the magic of Asda glasses. It's all one price and the fitting was as good as my vair posh opticians opticians.asda.com/Prescription-Glasses/Jai-Kudo/5054070068359
TatianaBis · 04/06/2020 17:16

I got a huge watermelon for £3 on Ocado.

GravityFalls · 04/06/2020 17:17

After a rocky start, I’ve been impressed by the HP Instant Ink system. For £7.99 a month you can make 300 prints - can all be full-page, full-colour ones if you want. HP are terrible to deal with if you have an issue but I’ve been signed up for six weeks and they’re currently sending me my 3rd set of cartridges- and I’ve got it for free until December too. You can get cheaper plans as well. I can’t get over how much cheaper it is than buying cartridges.

MrsNoah2020 · 04/06/2020 17:19

I was coming on to say taps @thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter.
Bizarrely expensive.

KingOfDogShite · 04/06/2020 17:20

Garden furniture. We’ve just bought some that cost more than all the furniture in my actual living room! It seems to be super cheap or super expensive, there’s no middle ground.

Laiste · 04/06/2020 17:24

Decent bras Shock

And the knickers to match .... ShockShock £16/£17/£20 for a scrap of lace??

theDudesmummy · 04/06/2020 17:24

Childrens shoes

Gimmeashake · 04/06/2020 17:25

Perfume. I don't understand how it can be over £50 for a small bottle of nice smelling water!

MorrisZapp · 04/06/2020 17:26

Omg yes!

Five pairs of knickers: ten quid

One pair of knickers the same colour as that bra, stuck on a hanger: twelve ninety nine

MorrisZapp · 04/06/2020 17:27

Ironing board covers are bewilderingly cheap though. I got a lovely one in Asda for 2.50

mellicauli · 04/06/2020 17:29

Babybel..

LadyEloise · 04/06/2020 17:30

Dyson anything.
But particularly their fan/ heaters and hairdryers.
No wonder James is a billionaire.

Sour grapes from me- i'd love one of the fan/ heaters but can't afford it.Sad

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 04/06/2020 17:31
