London Demonstrations

Maybe iabu I don't know but I'm so pissed off at all of the photos online of the demonstrations taking place in London today. I know why they are doing it but ffs 15,000 people in a fucking park while we are only allowed to meet in a group of 6.

My kids have just returned to school for 2 days a week in small classes with only a few of their friends, my year 6er is missing everything and should be on a PGL trip this week. My husbands business is going down the drain but 15,000 fucking people can go and mix for a demonstration?

Let's just all wait for two weeks time shall we when the hospitals are busy again and people are screaming that their relatives are dying.

I'm really angry and fed up after seeing the photos, just feel like it's never going to end and we are never going to get away from these restrictions while other people don't give a shit.

@cyclingmad no it hasn’t, there weren’t thousands of people gathering in the peak, honestly coming out with things like that is not helpful, it’s just not.

Nor is a protest with thousands of people in the middle of a pandemic helpful, which then turned violent. It’s giving the very people’s minds it hopes to change even more ammunition! It’s infuriating.

Personally I get why your angry I can’t say I will ever understand but I get and I understand the wanting to do something anything and the need for that to feel physical and that’s where a protest comes in, but as said before I don’t need my views re-shaping.

The protest is breaking the current legislation and I can’t blame people for not taking kindly to that either. And when it turns violent it then starts to look like people taking the piss. Its just playing right into the hands of people who want to oppress and or see oppression.

Know your audience.

Marvina who heads up BLM in Leeds where I am has got it right. She knows what she’s doing. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156983759430025&id=627305024&_rdr

I completely agree OP.

I'm amazed that more hasn't been said about breaking social distancing rules. Yes it's a vitally important cause but the fact that we are in the midst of a global pandemic seems to be forgotten about.

I wish we had stricter enforcement as in other European countries. Perhaps we would have fewer deaths then.

MintyMabel · 04/06/2020 10:57

Perhaps people understand there are bigger threats to a whole load more people in the world than Covid 19 and maybe it’s worth drawing attention to that right now? I’m afraid the “my 2 kids” argument seems petty in comparison with what’s happening.

On the looting issue, everyone saying how terrible it is and how awful people are for doing it should remind themselves people here were punching each other over packs of toilet paper two months ago.

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/06/2020 11:00

More important than this?:

www.itv.com/news/2020-05-01/second-virus-wave-may-be-more-severe-than-first-whitty-warns/

Disgusting this mass demonstration has been allowed to go on in current circumstances.

cyclingmad · 04/06/2020 11:03

Christ sake there have been report so there may be a second wave then reports that the models predicting it are wrong.

Noone knows so stop scaremongering

MadameMarie · 04/06/2020 11:21

@cyclingmad

Well if there is a second wave the government have for the perfect fall guys lined up with these social distance ignoring mass gathering protesters.

If there is a second spike in London it's exactly what it will be blamed on.

cyclingmad · 04/06/2020 11:40

It should only be 2 weeks so we will know soon enough meanwhile we will know sooner about all those beach goers and those in parks not social distancing first so actually I think any fall back will be on that

Wilberforce1 · 04/06/2020 11:43

@cyclingmad If there is a second wave in London who do you think is going to get the blame? All of those demonstrators yesterday that's who.

cyclingmad · 04/06/2020 12:01

Nope the people going to parks and beaches thats been going on way before the protests so a second wave will be coming soon than any impact from protestors but ignorant stupid people will blame the protestors even if the time doesn't march up

Justnot · 04/06/2020 12:23

It’s already life and death for BAME people, whether it’s covid or shit life chances or police brutality, being told if you get on yer bike you will get on in life when everything is stacked against you, I’d take to the streets too

LydiaDusbyn · 04/06/2020 12:29

I understand the anger. But injustice isn't a blank cheque:

june2007 · 04/06/2020 12:39

There were over 40 CV cases linked to Cheltenham and similar with a mager football match before lock down. A second wave is not just a theory it,s going on in other countries. How many cases will be linked t this protest. 9which includes people of every background by the way.) An although I agree with the sentiment I can,t help but think how is it going to change what happens in America even police in USA are saying not in my name.

LydiaDusbyn · 04/06/2020 18:30

Thank God the weather turned cooler or those thugs from yesterday would probably still be fighting the police. I pray none of those 15,000 rule breakers get or pass on the virus, but they've had their moment in front of the cameras and need to wind their necks in now until it's safer. Noble cause, stupid behaviour.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 04/06/2020 18:32

Imagine being so privileged that your biggest concern is catching a virus. And not being arrested or killed for going for a run at night.

YABU.

cyclingmad · 04/06/2020 18:35

@LydiaDusbyn so those people who have re risk everyday should just win their ne k in...unbelievable will those who dish it out wind their neck? Why dont you tell those you inflict racist behaviour onto others to wind their neck in

SquirmOfEels · 04/06/2020 19:18

"Imagine being so privileged that your biggest concern is catching a virus"

Are you saying that you disagree with the imposition of public health regulations during a pandemic? Or perhaps you are Dominic Cummings and think they should notnactually stop anything you consider important. Even when safer alternatives - such as what happened in Windrush Square (near the Front Line) - are taking place??

MamaLion1319 · 04/06/2020 20:03

For once in your lives you don't matter! How dare we as a people after 500 years of systematic oppression put our loves before yours! How very dare we! We are as likely to suffer death/violence as a result of police brutality (yes in the uk) as we are likely to suffer/die from Covid.
Covert racism demanding your needs are respected whilst trampling all over ours. Supremacy.

MamaLion1319 · 04/06/2020 20:03

The last 2 months have meant nothing? So have the last80 years of protests and marches.

MamaLion1319 · 04/06/2020 20:07

We have a legal right to protest regardless of the current situation. A LEGAL right. But let's deny that right as well as the right to a fair trial, the right to walk down the street, the right to exist in public spaces without having the police called, the right to wear our natural hair to work and school, the right to be treated better than a wild animal when we are involved with the police.

gypsywater · 04/06/2020 20:16

You are nuts

gypsywater · 04/06/2020 20:17

Take a diazepam please

MamaLion1319 · 04/06/2020 20:26

What's buts about anything I've just said? Unless you deliberately choose to ignore the truth because it hurts your ego, you must be very blind. Like those "I don't see colour" people Grin

Those who choose not to listen because of looting or because of covid 19 are siding with racism. Choose what side you want to be on

I absolutely agree

cyclingmad · 04/06/2020 20:39

I agree with you Flirty it's been disgusting to see the racism on mumsnet.

They are scared of a virus and its only bee a few months imagine living with that fear everyday for your entire life
