That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

OP posts:
TheId · 03/07/2020 22:26

Yep

  • torted ovarian cyst and dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction are joint top worst pains I've ever had. Two births with gas and air had nothing on those.
  • falling downstairs and ripping ligaments in my ankle was also worse then childbirth
  • the gastric ulcer was painful but less bad than childbirth
Caplin · 03/07/2020 22:27

Having my tonsils out in my 20s. Agony for a fortnight, like I was was swallowing broken glass. It made all food and drink taste rank.

I found childbirth ok, used gas and air and second time had a water birth.

Keep moving as long as possible!

Samanabanana · 03/07/2020 22:27

Gallstones!

SunshineCake · 03/07/2020 22:28

I really want to say emotional pain was much much worse than labour.

The moment of pop pop as both shoulders are born was the best bit as I knew the worst bit was over.

stanski · 03/07/2020 22:28

Sorry but no. Worst pain ever experienced.

MummaW88 · 03/07/2020 22:29

It totally depends, not to scare you but I personally have never experienced any pain close to it (and I have had broken bones, tooth infections, cracked my head open) however, I was induced and they say that makes it a lot worse in most cases as the contractions are a lot more intense!

What I will say is, however bad it is, you will get through it. Our bodies are capable of amazing things. I spent most of my labour saying “I can’t do this anymore!” and praying for it to be over (36 hours later...) but afterwards I felt like a warrior. It’s normal to be scared, but no matter how much it does or doesn’t hurt, it’ll be over soon enough and you’ll be so proud of yourself! And have that beautiful baby to hold. Good luck Flowers

Pipandmum · 03/07/2020 22:29

Cystitis. I thought I was going to die.

Amumwithatum · 03/07/2020 22:30

Gallstones for 12 months then the pain after keyhole surgery, hands down way more painful than the 36 hours of labour with my 1 at born!
Take the drugs if you want/need them!!!

Xmasbaby11 · 03/07/2020 22:30

I've had bad dental pain but childbirth was worse. Just like my body being turned inside out. Truly horrendous. 8 years on and i can remember it vividly. It took a while to recover psychologically from the pain.

I did have a bad labour - I think most people found it more bearable - just giving my experience.

StudyBuddy · 03/07/2020 22:30
  • Kidney stones
  • Appendix out
  • Hyperemesis
  • An awful lot of pregnancy
Roomba · 03/07/2020 22:32

Dental abscess. I would have chopped my own head off to stop the pain if I'd had to endure it much longer! Morphine didn't touch it. Far worse than childbirth (for me) and I didn't get anything gorgeous and snuggly to show for it!

hiredandsqueak · 03/07/2020 22:34

34 weeks pregnant and broke my ankle in three places. When they manipulated it to get a back slab on it was ten times worse than labour. It's a good job I had the mask on for gas and air because I couldn't help but scream.

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 03/07/2020 22:34

Yes. Gallstones travelling down the pancreatic duct, horrific agony of a gluten attack and breaking my back were all worse. You'll be fine.

CluelessBaker · 03/07/2020 22:35

My mum said labour pain was as nothing compared to her trigeminal neuralgia. Not necessarily comforting, because I’ve seen her vomit, scream and pass out from that pain (and she is a hugely stoical and non-dramatic person in general).

LookMoreCloselier · 03/07/2020 22:35

Dental abscess under 2 teeth had me considering hitting my head off hard things. It was worse than childbirth which at least you get a baby at the end of and to no longer be pregnant, it's a positive pain which is unusual.

Someone1987 · 03/07/2020 22:36

I cannot decided between toothache and labour...both hideous

KarmaKamel · 03/07/2020 22:38

If I’m being honest, I thought you died before pain could get as bad as my early labour. On a scale of 1-10 it was 200. It was like nothing I could imagine and I’d had gallstones which everyone told me was similar in level. It’s not! I remember wondering why I’d not passed out or died from the pain.

But then a lovely doctor gave me an even lovelier epidural and all was well again Grin

For what it’s worth my labour was hyper accelerated for some reason with the irresistible urge to push kicking in when I was only 1.5cm dilated and therefore dangerous for me. So probably not common and hence the early epidural.

nannymags · 03/07/2020 22:38

i dont know how helpful this is but I'm pretty sure theres a correlation between anxiety/tension and pain threshold...... maybe look into calming breath work, hypnotherapy etc...... if all else fails request epidural! good luck xxxxxx

Popsicales · 03/07/2020 22:40

Kidney stones and people won’t believe this but... having my eyebrows threaded. It felt like electric shocks and was just such a sharp pain I couldn’t deal with it at all! I’ve had two DC both born at home with no pain relief and no midwife for the second. It’s manageable because the pain isn’t there all the time.

TatianaBis · 03/07/2020 22:42

Oh yeah burst appendix. Had to have intravenous morphine.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 03/07/2020 22:42

Gall bladdere
Neuralgia/dental pain.

My first labour was my worst but that was a lot to do with anxiety I think. The one thing that was amazing about childbirth was the fact that the when he was born the pain didn't wear off - it vanished completly.

I have had migraines that wore off slowly over the course of a few days - you start to feel better and then realise it has completely vanished - but one minute you are pushing and the next the pain has gone completly.

thewisp · 03/07/2020 22:43

I've had renal colic from kidney stones and it was a pleasant walk in the park compared to my back to back labour before pain relief. But as PP have said a) the epidural was magical and b) you forget / it's worth it.

You have a strange determination and focus, so whilst it's painful you're busy if that makes any sense?! You just get through it because you have to

iolaus · 03/07/2020 22:43

dry socket followed by ludwig's angina after a tooth extraction

Dental pain which needed a root filling

Torn diaphragm (every breathe in felt like a knife into my ribs) - however pethidine worked well on it but not for long enough only lasted about 2 hours at a time and could only have the pethidine every 4-6 hours

Frogshoe · 03/07/2020 22:43

I’ve had CS births but orthopaedic surgery was so much worse than that. My sister tells me gallstone pain was 100% worse than any of her labours and births.

Wannabegreenfingers · 03/07/2020 22:44

Tonsillitis was far worse then giving birth with no pain relief and forceps. Ill take that any day of the week over 5 days of non stop throat pain, unable to eat or sleep....
