That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

OP posts:

Lumbar puncture

Haircutt100 · 01/06/2020 00:11

Barosinusitis.
You'll be fine, it'll hurt like buggery but it's a, er... good pain if that makes any sense ConfusedSmile

OchonAgusOchonO · 01/06/2020 00:11

I didn't find it too bad. A few stong contractions but otherwise not too bad. Second child was probably the hardest of the 4 but he had a big head so the crowning was pretty intense. No drugs needed for any of them. Just breathing and making sure I was upright (kneeling). The more traditional, semi-reclined position makes the pain way more intense so it's best avoided.

I had a bulging disk that was way worse than labour. The pain in labour is intermittent so easier to deal with.

WillowKnicks · 01/06/2020 00:11

Snapped ligament in shoulder.
Dental abscess.

Good luck OP Flowers

I've never given birth but apparently rib breaks are worse.

Felt my rib snack in my back when I coughed one Christmas - ten minutes into meeting my now husband's family for the first time.

Then walked around with that broken rib pressing on a nerve for a year before it was fixed with surgery. Yay

Crabbo · 01/06/2020 00:11

Nothing sorry it was horrific, but the end goal really helps you bear it.

Bells3032 · 01/06/2020 00:11

TerrorWig · 01/06/2020 00:12

Migraine and renal colic.

I’d gladly give birth again rather than experience those.

PoodleJ · 01/06/2020 00:12

In growing toenails and toothache were far worse. You’ll be fine. If I was so terrible the population would die out as women would only ever have one child.

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 01/06/2020 00:14

Blinding headache (it was suspected meningitis! But lumbar puncture was normal).- it was like having an axe put through my head! I told the A&E nurse I’d gladly be put out of my misery. It took weeks to settle too. Also had chronic abdo pain that no drugs could manage which was months of misery.

Labour was intense (back to back!) but the tens machine helped me, I’d highly recommend getting one. My labour was speedy so my midwife didn’t realise how far along I was. I recommend getting some kind of code with your birthing partner for I need pain relief because I didn’t feel able to ask!

Untilsummer · 01/06/2020 00:14

Gallstone attacks. I've not had mine out yet and I often have attacks which are excruciating!

I'd also say stubbing your toe, those first initial seconds are worse than childbirth for me.

raspberryk · 01/06/2020 00:15

Having the local anaesthetic in my cervix for a letz treatment, I actually cried. The colonoscopy before that was pretty bad too.
Also my broken ankle, much worse as I nearly passed out twice, I went all shaky, couldn't speak, could barely breathe and was nearly sick.
Also nipple pain when breastfeeding my first.
I didn't even feel my contractions once in the birth pool, I kept getting out as I though labour had stopped. And getting back in once I decided it hadn't. That was right up to transition.

Daftodil · 01/06/2020 00:15

Ask for gas and air as soon as possible. It really does help. Good luck!

YourStarlessEyes · 01/06/2020 00:17

I had an infection in my mouth in December, I cried with the pain. I'd say it was the same level as labour, actually I'd rather go through giving birth to both my DC than have the infection again!!

JimmyGrimble · 01/06/2020 00:17

Cluster headache. Six or seven times a day including through the night when it switches itself on. Summer solstice means it’s switched on now. Apparently it’s the most painful condition known to humankind so I can count myself lucky. Childbirth is pain for a reason and there will be people on hand to help you. You will forget it quickly when you hold that little one in your arms. Good luck OP.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 01/06/2020 00:18

You can minimise the pain by opting for say... an early epidural....NHS constraints willing.

Noconceptofnormal · 01/06/2020 00:18

I second those who've said migraine. I've had some that were worse than childbirth. You'll be ok xx

foolserrand · 01/06/2020 00:19

I managed to give birth to my 3rd child in my bath at home. I was alone for the majority of the 3 hour labour thanks to an asshat dp who prioritised sleep over my imminent having of child Hmm
When he finally woke up and called the mlu, they simply called paramedics out because she could tell from my racket I was too far gone.
DD2 came a little bit after that phone call, ages before midwives or ambulance men could arrive! I remember that it hurt, but I don't remember how much.
You will be okay, you will not feel that at the time, but all the bad stuff fades quickly and you're left with a bow legged walk, an inability to laugh without peeing and a beautiful baby.
Best of luck!

Daftodil · 01/06/2020 00:19

Other pains:

Toothache
Breastfeeding newborn (blisters and bleeding nipples)
Having a wee after an episiotomy and getting wee on stitches.
Cystitis.

wolfmom · 01/06/2020 00:19

Pancreatitis

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 01/06/2020 00:20

As Daftodil said....go through the options to keep things painfree: I did TENS machine, gas and air, epidural...with my first; and had an ELCS for the second which was a good experience.

Fandoozle1 · 01/06/2020 00:21

Gallbladder pain was almost as bad as labour. Currently recovering from another horrendous attack of it and it wiped me out for the day.

whatacrazytime · 01/06/2020 00:21

Gallbladder attack I actually wanted to die and I've gave birth 3 times last one with no pain relief. You can do it. You forget the Odin quickly

fruitbat2008 · 01/06/2020 00:21

I've had twins one hour apart natural birth and a back to back thirty six hour ventouse birth with my first yet the worst pain i've ever had was an abscess with my tooth I would honestly give birth any day don't worry you will be ok xx

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 01/06/2020 00:22

Childbirth is the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I literally screamed at one point.
HOWEVER given the choice, I would do it again over having a toothache or gallstones attack. At least contractions have a purpose, and you get something at the end.
