That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

I've had toothache that hurt more than childbirth. Actually, the stitches that I had after childbirth were considerably worse than giving birth (with gas and air). I enjoyed it though, and I thought that the pain was nowhere near as bad as people say it is.

Squidwitch · 03/07/2020 22:45

Absolutely. Dental pain, would literally bang head against sink to try to knock myself out. Sure my daughter's very quick birth was painful, but for me it was a different kind, knowing that there's an end, and the most wonderful surprise at the end! There is pain management though, and ask for it if you want it. I was 20, it was the nineties, I didn't feel I should make a fuss.. tbh, lack of preparation and birth stories probably helped me a lot. Too much info not always good!

Agree all labours are different but people's pain levels are so different. I actually enjoyed giving birth and although a long labour it really wasn't that bad. I had stitches also but they numbed me first before they did and didn't feel any pain just some slight tugging

pinkgreenrose · 03/07/2020 22:46

Period pain

Sunny4876 · 03/07/2020 22:47

Period pain mostly every month for 30 years,I'd also go e both naturally over c-section any day.

Saturdayrabbit42 · 03/07/2020 22:47

Ovarian torsion...thousand times worse! Good luck OP, you can do it!

sonypony · 03/07/2020 22:48

Severe necrotising pancreatitis. FAR worse than birth. Unbelievable. Never could have thought that level of pain was possible. I had gallstones more days than not for nearly a year before this (which caused it) and I would say that was about on par with birth. The pregnancy caused it so get checked out if you get severe back pain and if your (male) dr says you’re exaggerating because you’re hormonal find another dr.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles

So true ! I had a melon fibroid and as a result some horrific periods

So when I had an actual labour it really wasn’t that bad !

Batmanandbobbin · 03/07/2020 22:49

Toothache.

rayn · 03/07/2020 22:49

I had an ablation done using local anaesthetic. The worst pain ever! I don't think the local anaesthetic worked as I felt every burn on my uterus! I actually passed out.
Childbirth varies. have had an easy birth and a painful traumatic one.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/07/2020 22:50

Sinusitis, way worse than labour pains

PeppermintPasty · 03/07/2020 22:51

Until last year I would’ve said there is nothing worse than childbirth (make no mistake it’s like pooing out a watermelon that’s inside a lorry), but then I had to have a camera put into my stomach. It was like medically-approved torture.

I had no one to drive me so I couldn’t have the procedure where they put you to sleep for it and just had some numbing (ha ha NOT) throat spray. It was horrific. Of course it didn’t last as long as my two labours but I came out of there seriously saying I’d rather give birth again than go through that. The camera up the bum I had immediately after was positively delightful in comparison.

I think that about covers it Grin

Burst aneurysm followed by an arterial bleed 🩸

BrummyMum1 · 03/07/2020 22:54

Labour is the start of something magical (meeting your baby). And the pain comes in waves (contractions). Neither of those things apply to serious injury pain so they’re not really comparable.

StraffeHendrik · 03/07/2020 22:54

Elcs. Had worse pain from .... almost anything, long ski day, tummy bug... really recommend it!

Dutchesss · 03/07/2020 22:55

Earache.
I had painful contractions but giving birth was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I had a waterbirth with gas and air and the pain was not bad at all.

TillyTheTiger · 03/07/2020 22:56

It's a different kind of pain to injury pain - my last birth was without pain relief and it really hurt but it's the immense pressure feeling I remember mainly.
Kidney infection was worse. And toothache.

Aneley · 03/07/2020 22:56

Nurse accidentally switching hydrogen for ethyl-alcohol and pouring that over my wound (I came in for redressing after a minor surgery). The fact that she then panicked and poured said alcohol all over my private parts didn't help either. Fainted twice out of sheer pain.

To be fair - I had a c-section so I can only compare it to the pain of a major surgery (which c-section is).

Marzipanface · 03/07/2020 23:00

Yes - gall bladder attack, never known pain like it, collapsed lung, ingrowing toenail! All more painful than birth. Good luck - it’s is so worth it xx

Quietheart · 03/07/2020 23:02

This thread is terrifying I’ve had to stop reading, I’ve done the childbirth and the tooth abscess, can’t look anymore in case I get one of the other things people are talking about 😧

Wond3rment · 03/07/2020 23:04

Migraine, hands down every time

louisethedisease · 03/07/2020 23:04

Dental abscess

YourWinter · 03/07/2020 23:05

Tooth abscesses are horrifically painful. I've also had an abscess inside a bone in my leg when I was little, that was agony. Having seen two family members with kidney stones, they're agony too.

Childbirth was a breeze, I had three normal deliveries, one shot of pethidine for each of the first two and a TENS machine with the third. I'd give birth every year if it would guarantee me no more tooth pain.

thenightsky · 03/07/2020 23:08

The first 24 hours following total hip replacment, when I had a reaction to the serious painkillers so was only allowed paracetamol. I'd had my femur saw off, a titanium pin hammered inside it and I was given fucking paracetamol FFS Shock

MrsTommyShelby · 03/07/2020 23:09

The first time around I had one puff of gas and air which made me sick so the second time I had nothing. I just kept telling myself there's an end in sight and that pain is so easily forgotten.
Also, I didn't really enjoy being pregnant. Constant sickness, sciatica, acid reflux, no sleep. So being in labour was a relief to me!
