That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

OP posts:

Toothache

Susanna85 · 01/06/2020 14:49

Also the drugs help. Presumably you won't have to do it without pain relief, unless you want to. I did it natural first time, epidural second time.

dicksplash · 01/06/2020 15:19

Gall stones is worse than labour. Labour is short lived in that you get a break between contractions plus you get a reward at the end. Gall stone pain is do intense and goes on without break for hours (and when a atone got stuck it lasted days/week).

Good luck, childbirth isn't fun but worth it!

Tryharderdobetter · 01/06/2020 15:22

Pleurisy. I've never known pain like it.

Honestly, don't worry about childbirth. It's what our bodies are designed to do. It's not fun. It's not easy. It's not forever (and I was in labour for over 40 hours!).

Good luck and congratulations!

Dental pain
Corneal laceration
Tracheal spasm

BumpBundle · 01/06/2020 15:29

I had kidney stones about four years before giving birth and that was worse. I had my appendix out about six months after birth and that was worse. Broken rib was worse, snapped achilles tendon was worse. For me, peeing for about ten days after giving birth hurt more than giving birth itself. Honestly, hyperemesis was worse - labour was the highlight of my pregnancy. I know I was lucky but, for me, not bad at all.

Witchcraftandhokum · 01/06/2020 15:34

I've never given birth so can't be 100% sure but I thought I was being a bit of a wimp with my gallstone pain, my gran who has 2 children and had a life altering injury due to a bomb in WW2 said gallstones were the worst pain she'd ever experienced.

Hamsham · 01/06/2020 15:37

I've had 3 children, 2 at home in the pool. I had gas and air only.

Let me start by saying I hate pain so much that I've never even had my ears pierced!

It's honestly fine. Watch lots of positive birth videos where people just 'breathe' the baby out and you'll see how it's meant to happen. I didn't push at all, except once or twice at the end when my body told me too.

A contraction only lasts for a minute or so (less at the start), and even then it's not a minute of pure pressure. It builds up to a peak within that minute, and then comes back down to nothing within that minute. And also, between contractions you rest and feel normal.

I couldn't understand (every time) how an opening so small can fit a baby through, yet it is designed to do exactly that.

Breathe the gas and air in as deeply as you can as soon as you feel the contraction start, as it takes 10 seconds or so to hit you - enjoy the tipsy feeling.

Breathe deeply and with an open mouth.

My top tipis to never watch trash like One Born Every Minute! Watch positive birth vids on YouTube. Makes you realise how wonderful birth is - something to be excited about, not something to dread.

Enjoy :-)

Periods and trigeminal neuralgia.
Actually had a quick delivery and not touch pain and non at all for the pushing stage apart from the sting as the head crowned.

TARSCOUT · 01/06/2020 15:39

Crohns flare days of pain until steroids work
Gallstones hours
Radiotherapy burns weeks

Hamsham · 01/06/2020 15:39

When I say 'breathe deeply and with an open mouth' I didn't mean when breathing the gas and air, obviously. Although do breathe that in as deeply and strongly as you can, as this will relax you also.

tealandteal · 01/06/2020 15:49

I pulled a muscle around my ribs, that was far worse that child birth every time I took a breath. Labour only lasted 8 hours from first contraction to delivery and most of the time I was able to still talk etc.

Heatherjayne1972 · 01/06/2020 15:57

Not going to lie - giving birth hurts
Say yes to every drug they offer - you don’t need to be a hero

Btw Three worst pains In humans are toothache birth and Passing a gallstone/kidney stone

Durgasarrow · 01/06/2020 16:02

No pain so terrible, but no pain so meaningful, so purposeful, and so profound. This is not to say that I think women should be forced to experience unwanted childbirth pain. Bring on the epidurals! But childbirth, unlike many other kinds of pain, is a story. It has a beginning, middle, and an end. It has (one hopes) an incredible, empowering, result. If you are like many women, you will be on a high you cannot imagine afterwards.

Sugartitss · 01/06/2020 16:03

Three broken ribs.

lakeswimmer · 01/06/2020 16:04

Yes - my back went into spasm and the pain was terrible - I couldn't move for three weeks. Much worse than childbirth - I've got three children and and had three straightforward births - gas and air with number 1 and no pain relief with 2 and 3 - it wasn't needed.

My Mum had an operation on her knee which she also said was worse than childbirth.

There was a positive birth stories thread in the Childbirth section on here recently. Maybe you should take a look for it OP. Good luck!

ohnoyesno · 01/06/2020 16:05

Tooth abscess. Worse than 2 c sections.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 01/06/2020 16:06

Tooth ache from decaying tooth next to root canal. Wanted to rip my face off.

Contractions were bad but childbirth was fine. Worse was 10 weeks after birth my retained placenta decided to come out. Contractions all over again 😱

Bananarama12 · 01/06/2020 16:07

Infected wisdom tooth.

sonicshoegazes · 01/06/2020 16:08

Biliary colic/gallstones are worse than childbirth in my opinion. I've had 3 vbac back to back heavy babies...

mrsm43s · 01/06/2020 16:10

Passing gallstones through an infected gallbladder. If that was 10 on scale of 1 being least painful to 10 being most painful, then childbirth (both vaginal, one induced, 12 hours or so established labour, no pain relief apart from G&A) rates about 2 on that scale.

I think that one of the reasons that childbirth is believed to be so very painful is that many young women are lucky enough that its their first real experience of major pain, and they don't realise that many injuries, illnesses and medical procedures can cause similar if not greater levels of pain.

OP, you'll be fine.

ITonyah · 01/06/2020 16:11

Tooth abscess

And I had three dcs with no drugs.

Crystal87 · 01/06/2020 16:12

Toothache was far worse. At least with childbirth you know the pain is natural and for a good reason.

Rose789 · 01/06/2020 16:14

Cold cap during chemo was the worst pain.
Close second was gallstones

luckylavender · 01/06/2020 16:14

WISDOM Tooth. Childbirth was a breeze in the park in comparison. And I'd had many more painful periods. I always make a point of telling pregnant ladies this as women are horrible at trotting out horror stories.
