That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

Gallstones. I literally thought I was going to die I have never known pain like that and I have given birth.

snowybean · 01/06/2020 13:03

Kidney infection, failed tooth extraction, another kidney infection.

Mind you I did have an epidural even though I was so against it at first. No regrets, it made life so much easier. Would recommend, especially for a 44 hour labour 🤣

Hoggleludo · 01/06/2020 13:06

Splenetic infarct. Which apparently is one of the most painful medical problems you can ever have.

Hoggleludo · 01/06/2020 13:07

Oh. And a dry socket.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 01/06/2020 13:13

Trigeminal neuralgia. Worst pain I've ever had.

YouSayTomatoISayBloodyMary · 01/06/2020 13:18

Pain wise yes - abcess.
But I didn't find that painful was the right word to describe childbirth. I couldn't stop vomiting, and I really hadn't been prepared for that. So it was mega grim, like food poisoning, more than painful in my case. And even after that it was extremely uncomfortable like I was bursting for the loo more than painful. I'm not trying to be all "pressure rather than pain", but it kind of was.

Moofart · 01/06/2020 13:20

A bad ear infection last year. It was worse than my labours. Never felt pain like it

belfasteast · 01/06/2020 13:22

Breastfeeding. Every time I had to feed I wished I was giving birth instead. If only there was such a thing as an upper epidural!

Floralnomad · 01/06/2020 13:22

Frostbite is definitely more painful , I’ve also had a really bad bout of sciatica which was worse that’s the only time pain has actually reduced me to tears .

AJGranny · 01/06/2020 13:23

In my late 20s I had a work related back injury. Complete loss of a disc and scar tissue fusion of the vertebrae. It was 10000000 xs more painful than child birth. Didn't even have gas during birth.

Nat6999 · 01/06/2020 13:27

I've had gallstones, endometriosis, an ovarian cyst & a double spiral fracture of my ankle & none were as painful as my induced back to back labour for ds. My advice is take all pain relief options & if you have to be induced, insist on an epidural first or have a csection if your cervix isn't favorable.

NearlyGranny · 01/06/2020 13:34

Endometriosis. And that was once a month for years! And an abscess in the ear canal - souvenir of a holiday in a Spanish villa with a (dodgy) pool.

Both were way worse than childbirth pangs which you know are normal, purposeful and limited. Pain is always worse when it's a sign something is badly wrong, especially when you don't know what's happening or when it will end.

Labour contractions are a working pain and if you feel them gather and go with them, it's a bit like surfing big waves. (It helped me).

DC3dilemma · 01/06/2020 13:41

Gallstones..argh the pain of biliary colic moving into cholecystitis.

I get this when I’m pregnant and postpartum and dread it more than labour.

Labour pain is real but it’s kind of a productive feeling -like you know it’s going to reach an end point with eventual relief.

Classiccar · 01/06/2020 13:50

Costochondritis.

Genuinely feels like a heart attack.

The only way of communicating with someone is by blinking as it incapacitates me. Inhaling and exhaling are nigh-on impossible.

Thecazelets · 01/06/2020 13:57

Sciatica.

I had my babies without pain relief, and I won't say it wasn't painful, but it was more like rhythmic bad period pain. Bits of it were very tough but it's productive and only lasts a few hours. And there are effective pain relief solutions for most people.

Sciatica is weeks and weeks of relentless pain with no let up and no effective pain relief.

Pluckedpencil · 01/06/2020 13:58

It can't be that bad as I don't remember much of the pain four years on. And after the first I opted for the second with no pain relief and no birthing pool. Just your standard birth with no help except a birthing ball. I'm a big believer in active labour, in keeping walking in between contractions, believing your body can do it, hypnobirthing etc. I kept my shit together and had two good labours. Not pain free, lots of pain, but managed. I think having pain connected to appendicitis or something is worse, because your body is going wrong, and so the pain mingles with fear. If you can accept there is nothing to fear in labour, assuming it is a normal birth, it will be fine. I had the drug option as a back up, but never needed it. I did miss the gas and air with number two a bit, but I didn't have that option where I am now.

PlugUgly1980 · 01/06/2020 14:04

Dental pain / infection behind wisdom teeth that ultimately needed emergency surgery, but is had it for 6 weeks. Even prescribed morphine wouldn't touch the pain. I genuinely wanted to die, it was completely unbearable.

AnathemaPulsifer · 01/06/2020 14:08

Tooth abscess and kidney stones both considerably worse.

Starlive23 · 01/06/2020 14:10

Another one for an absess, I felt like cutting off my own head!

letsallcountsheep · 01/06/2020 14:17

Tapped spinal cord, electric shocks up and down you spine.

I actually preferred labour to that

letsallcountsheep · 01/06/2020 14:17

TRAPPED not tapped

Hoppinggreen · 01/06/2020 14:18

Nope, take the epidural

GoldenBlue · 01/06/2020 14:34

Labour was not too bad, I loved my tens machine and a long bath. Only needed a bit of gas and air for stitches. Plus the hormones make it hard to remember afterwards.

Tooth abscess was horrendous and I'd have happily had it pulled without anaesthetic as it couldn't have hurt any more than it already did.

I think late pregnancy is horrid as you feel so uncomfortable that you'll willingly go through anything to get the pregnancy over with. So when it comes it doesn't feel as bad. Plus you get a lovely reward of a baby afterwards.

Good luck, don't be too afraid, it will be ok

GregoryGrainneog · 01/06/2020 14:43

Pain from siatica was horrific. Honestly, it was way worse than childbirth.

I remember being very nervous about labour on my 1st. It's the fear of the unknown and it's different for everyone. You will be fine, try not to stress yourself about it. Flowers
