That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

OP posts:

Fractured skull, and the sound of the metal bin on the ward slamming shut actually causing agonising pain on top of the pain. Ugh would give birth again anyway over that (giving birth next month actually!)

NearlyBaked · 01/06/2020 08:01

Norovirus - I vividly remember writhing on the bathroom floor thinking I'd swap it for labour in a heartbeat

Plsnomorepeppapig · 01/06/2020 08:02

Gall stone pain.

Flamingolingo · 01/06/2020 08:02

It’s an odd one. It’s obviously really painful (gas and air helps, epidural helps more), and overwhelming, but it’s also very powerful. It’s more akin to a very very severe stomach bug (x10000) than any other pain I’ve had. And it stops once it’s over (apart from stitches etc). It’s not like pain because there’s something wrong with you. And if things go well the euphoria afterwards is incredible. (If things don’t go well it’s bloody awful though after)

Igenixx · 01/06/2020 08:03

Endometriosis (Even writing makes my head echo), nothing compares to it and that’s with being in labour for 27 and half hours.

laudete · 01/06/2020 08:04

Toothache; dental pain goes on for days. With an epidural or spinal block, childbirth doesn't hurt and it's over quickly. x

Sertchgi123 · 01/06/2020 08:05

Toothache and gallstones.

MrsJBaptiste · 01/06/2020 08:14

Thunderclap headache.

The first time this happened I collapsed completely out of the blue with the pain. I have never felt anything like it.

Childbirth hurt yes, especially as DS1 was back to back but you know you get something amazing at the end which definitely makes it bearable!

babbi · 01/06/2020 08:14

I didn’t find labour painful at all ... all over in 1hr 40 mins ... natural birth - appreciate I was very lucky .. hope it’s as good for you .
Good luck with your new baby 👶🏻

Asuitablecat · 01/06/2020 08:15

Sinusitis for 5 days, to the point where I lay on the floor feeling sick and wanting to tear my face off while dc 1 and 3 watched cbeebies all day.

I forgot cb until the first major contraction second time round, then it was like:"oh fuck!"

Hmpher · 01/06/2020 08:16

As a lot of others have said, when it comes to it it can be so intense that you go into your own head and don’t remember it very well afterwards. It is also different to the pain of an injury in that it has a purpose and an end point which you are working towards. I loved the bit with the pushing because you have something to do rather than just waiting and it’s kind of like you are pushing against the pain.

The thing I found more painful was when the doctor manually extracted blood clots afterwards, before they stitched my episiotomy. I had no idea it was even a thing that could happen. Still birth related I suppose, but definitely found it more painful than the actual birth.

Cupcakegirl13 · 01/06/2020 08:18

Another one for kidney stones , I’ve had 3 DC and would rather have all 3 again than one bout of kidney stones.

Applepie05 · 01/06/2020 08:26

I had a secondary PPH due to retained placenta. They put there arm up to their elbow inside you and lean on the outside with their elbow. No pain relief at the time.. I don’t know however if that was worse or childbirth pain is more easily forgotten/downplayed.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 01/06/2020 08:28

I’ve had a lot of dental pain in my life, I have atypical facial pain which means I have been in chronic, sleep stealing pain for months, all kicked off by a dental abscess 20 years ago which swelled up so bad I looked deformed.

In comparison to that childbirth was a walk in the park. The contractions hurt for like 90 seconds, they build up then subside. I have no recollection of how much pain the delivery was, only being the other side of it with DS is my arms. You will be fine OP.

AnyFucker · 01/06/2020 08:32

The epidural I had eased the labour pain but then the crashing headache I had for 3 days as a result of it was worse

20viona · 01/06/2020 08:33

@Applepie05 someone else who's experienced the same horror as me! No amount of words describe the feeling of someone (in my case a few doctors) being elbow deep inside you whilst someone else is pushing your stomach down with all their might. The actual birth just disappeared I dont remember anything about it!

SockYarn · 01/06/2020 08:34

Gallstones.

Just excruciating. Far, far worse than childbirth - at least when you're in labour you know why you're in pain and that it won't last for ever.

GabriellaMontez · 01/06/2020 08:35

Dental absess. I cried.

Labour also painful. The first one much less. And within half an hour I was proclaiming that I could do it again.

Kelsoooo · 01/06/2020 08:36

Absolutely

Ear infection - ruptured both eardrums within minutes of each other. The build up to the pain saw me drinking vodka from the bottle and putting Anbesol in my ear canal after taking tramadol and codiene (I don't drink vodka, and would never normally put stuff in my ear). I was sobbing it hurt that much. And this was only twelve weeks back.

It's worth remembering that for a straight forward birth, the pain stops immediately upon giving birth. You're achey and tired, but the actual labour pain is gone.

dementedma · 01/06/2020 08:36

No

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 01/06/2020 08:37

My Arthritis pain, it’s constant and grating and never ending.

Spied · 01/06/2020 08:39

Unrelenting GERD
Wisdom tooth infection
Ingrown toenail

PrincessHoneysuckle · 01/06/2020 08:39

No sorry! Childbirth hurts like a bastard

Angel2702 · 01/06/2020 08:39

The leg cramps in the night when I was pregnant were worse than childbirth. Even a 16hr Labour with no pain relief was more bearable.

11MrsLuther · 01/06/2020 08:41

Gallbladder was on par with labour, possibly worse actually. I have given birth vaginally 4 times twice with only gas and air (not what I would have chosen!) To 4 large babies including 2 of 10lb and 11lb, and I honestly can't really remember the pain. Mother nature is like that! Please try not to worry.
