That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

Tearing my ACL I literally wanted to die
Toothache when I broke a tooth

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 01/06/2020 08:45

It's a very different kind of pain to anything I've ever experienced before. I found it far more manageable than a bone break or anything similar because I knew it would come to an end and it felt like pain with a purpose. Also it wasn't constant, it came in waves so there were moments of respite unlike toothache for example.

The pushing actually felt good because my body so badly wanted to push, it was when I tried to hold it back that it hurt the most.

Gompurtz · 01/06/2020 08:45

Another one for dental work- I've had root canal twice and the first time was so much worse than childbirth.

Winnipegdreamer · 01/06/2020 08:46

No. It felt like my spine was being pulled out of my back, with no break in contractions. I remember thinking that I just wanted to be dead rather than carry on. I haven’t forgot it and genuinely found it traumatic.

Defaultuser · 01/06/2020 08:51

I know there are a lot of horror stories on here but a few of my friends have said that labour wasn't nearly as bad as they were expecting. Maybe some ladies with positive experiences could reassure the OP?

1stTimeMama · 01/06/2020 08:52

I had an ear infection not long after I had my first which was the worse pain I had felt up to that point. And gallbladder flare ups. Oh my goodness, just kill me.

VirginWestCoast · 01/06/2020 08:56

Appendicitis. I had it as a teenager and the pain properly started while on a Scout night hike so I had hours with it without being able to stop.
There are probably others as well but I had quite a short labour.

1stTimeMama · 01/06/2020 08:57

Also, just to ad to balance things out, I'm expecting my 5th baby now and all of my labours have been so easy. Quick, relaxed and straight forward, have only ever had gas and air, one was totally free of pain relief. I have torn and had to have stitches, but it's still not the worst thing. I'd do it over and over :-)

C152H · 01/06/2020 08:59

No

ThighThighofthigh · 01/06/2020 09:00

No matter what the birth is like in a day at most it will be over. There's an end to it!

Worst pain I ever felt was scleritis, it was like a 300lb finger relentlessly pressing on my cheek

peopleherearerightcunts · 01/06/2020 09:00

No, but it was a back to back labour.

I've broken my leg and ankle in 4 places at the same time, broken both bones in my arms at the same time, had acute appendicitis .....

Childbirth was worse than all of them.

catgirl1976 · 01/06/2020 09:06

Twisted bowel. Way worse.

HappyMealWithLegs · 01/06/2020 09:06

Kidney infection. Far, FAR more painful. I didn't find labour that bad though. Certainly not as bad as I was expecting/had been told in horror stories by 'helpful' people!

Dogmatix34 · 01/06/2020 09:07

Tonsilitis. I remember thinking when I had it when we were thinking of trying for a baby that I wouldn’t be able to cope with childbirth if I couldn’t cope with tonsillitis and then when giving birth thinking that it wasn’t nearly so bad ( nearly 10 pound baby, natural birth)

edwinbear · 01/06/2020 09:09

Another vote for appendicitis, and I've had two back to back births, with a failed epidural, forceps and manual placenta removal. I'd choose another one of those over appendicitis every time.

Neverendingweeds · 01/06/2020 09:12

I am the biggest wimp, I do not tolerate pain well at all. I hate needles, I don't even have my ears pierced because I am scared of the pain and the needle....

Yet I have given birth twice, once with NO pain relief at all (happened very fast) and once with just G&A and honestly, it wasn't as bad I was thought it would be. I would say for me, it was like really really bad period pains that come in waves. Even the pushing stage didn't hurt that much in my opinion, just felt like a lot of pressure.

I had my last baby just four months ago, so it's still fresh in my mind!

GenderApostate19 · 01/06/2020 09:12

Dry socket after tooth extraction and abcess, horrific, bang your head against the wall pain.
Bladder spasms in peri menopause with horrendous flooding periods, I woke up needing the loo but the spasm/ pain was so intense I couldn’t urinate, it was so bad I was vomiting, which let a little pee out with every retch and eventually let me empty my bladder.

Nonnymum · 01/06/2020 09:15

No, but it's a pain for a purpose and you know it will end with the birth of your baby. Unlike toothache etc where you don't know when it will end and it doesn't end in anything positive.
All I can say is I would go through the pain again fur my children. And many people do it more than once so it must be worth it.!

MouthBreathingRage · 01/06/2020 09:15

My worst pain was definitely pleurisy. Every breath feels like a knife to the lungs whilst someone is breaking your ribs. Seconded by gallstones, absolute horrendous agony.

My first (water) birth was painful, but utterly manageable. My second happened so quickly though, I had no time for pain relief. Not fun, not something I'd chose to do. I'd still do it again though! As much as it hurt, it was quick and certainly worth it.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/06/2020 09:17

For me no. Although I’ve head gallstones is more painful.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/06/2020 09:17

*hearf

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/06/2020 09:17

Kidney stones. Not sure if they were more painful but definitely on a similar level, without the incentive of getting to meet my baby at the end of it!

Wolfff · 01/06/2020 09:22

I would say labour was more intense than painful. I have experienced worse pain in the following in particular:

Broken bone in foot/toes
Gallstones
Toothache
Joint and bone pain (Stills Disease)
