That is worse than childbirth?

Just trying to ease my anxieties over giving birth, due this week!

I hate the unknown and not having a client what level of pain to expect. I know every labour is different but I cant sleep and thought I'd ask!

The pain from acute pancreatitis is 100× worse compounded by the fact that at least with labour there you know it's going to end eventually and you get a baby afterwards no such silver linings with pancreatitis. Not as painful per say as labour but I actually felt overall worse also when I developed sepsis following an asymptomatic kidney infection going untreated a few years ago.

Home42 · 01/06/2020 07:33

Impacted wisdom tooth and a prolapsed disc in my back. The disc being the worse by far! Never been in so much pain. To be honest I found childbirth intense but not screamingly painful.

TwilightPeace · 01/06/2020 07:33

If you want to take the pain of labour away, get an epidural. That’s what they’re for.
If I was having another baby I’d 100% have an epidural.
DD1s birth was traumatising, I was in agony for so long, I wanted to die. There was no anaesthetist available at the weekend 🙄
With DD2 I got my epidural and it was a breeze.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 01/06/2020 07:34

Gallstones and a deranged liver. Absolutely crippling pain that never eases but only gets more painful with each spasm and leaves me recovering for a week.
My only experience of childbirth is a late miscarriage which I managed through breathing and paracetamol. I did hemorage after that but overall the pain was manageable

Billyjoearmstrong · 01/06/2020 07:34

Pleurisy

JacobReesMogadishu · 01/06/2020 07:37

Breaking my back.

Remember there are effective drugs for childbirth. Take them if you need them.

Poetryinaction · 01/06/2020 07:40

I have experienced some of the things mentioned here
Sciatica
Toenail ripping off
Dry socket
Broken bone

None even touch the sides. I have given birth 3 times. 2 of them were back-to-back and excruciating from start to finish. The first took 24 hours and I had an epidural after 18 of them. Diamorphine didn't touch it. I honestly wanted to die.until the epidural.
The second was straightforward but the ring of fire was like nothing else on earth.
The third was hell on earth but it was quick. Mixed blessing. Over in 4 hours but no time for hospital transferal so no pain relief and a third degree tear.

I can never put myself through that again. It's different for everyone but for menit was absolute torture. And yes I did try hypnobirthing!

RoyalChocolat · 01/06/2020 07:41

Gallstones. I gave birth several times to big babies without any form of pain relief. Gallstones were worse.

Notmyusualnamenosiree · 01/06/2020 07:43

Having had a long labour ending in EMCS, I can honestly say the worst pain I've experienced was the recovery from having my tonsils out, two years later.

BikeRunSki · 01/06/2020 07:47

Tendonitis
Dental abscess

Cryalot2 · 01/06/2020 07:47

Dental abcess,
Toothache, the post tooth removal pain (much much worse )
E-coli,
Knee dislocating,
Broken elbow ..
The dental ones by far worse than anything by a long way

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/06/2020 07:48

I have given birth to two children in a birthing house without pain relief (and we do not do gas + air) - a 10 hour and a 1 hour birth.
The fast was more painful than the slow one, but after the fast one I felt better.
What was worse:
root inflammation at my upper front teeth - the nerves died over a weekend

Acdmm41 · 01/06/2020 07:48

Haven't experienced anything worse than childbirth but it's definitely a different type of pain, it's constructive, your body is trying to achieve something. Mine was 24 hrs, no pain relief and within minutes of having DS I'd have done it all again. Go with it, it's worth every minute.

CandyLeBonBon · 01/06/2020 07:49

Kidney/ureter obstruction. resulting in a nephrostomy. Way worse.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 01/06/2020 07:49

Earache just before my eardrum burst with pressure. Never known pain like it! Would rather have given birth over that!

Childbirth does hurt, no one should lie, but it is a totally different pain and when you hold that baby for the first time you really do forget a lot of it.

Feetupteashot · 01/06/2020 07:49

My first was back to back and quite painful, so I ended up wanting an epidury. But the second was a normal delivery and pain totally fine with gas and air towards the end.

In case you're interested, am generally quite cynical and not normally a fan of meditation etc but hypnobirthing (mostly breathing techniques) kept me calm which reduced the pain. Lovely non judgemental stuff in an online course which aimed to support you whatever your birthplan. Worth a thought if you're feeling a bit anxious about things. There was a cost but minimal compared to 'real life' courses.

Having physio for plantar fasciitis - sounds unbelievable I agree, but it was hideously painful for an hour once every two weeks - at the time I said it was worse than childbirth and it was - it was torture!! I didn't cry from pain during childbirth but I was weeping and howling during that. Obviously it didn't go on for as long as childbirth but I would rather have another baby than go through that again, and I seriously do not want another baby. Toothache during lockdown with no meds and no dentists comes a very close second.

To be honest by the end of my three pregnancies I was absolutely delighted to have the pain of contractions - and to push those babies out, and I took all the drugs. It wasn't really that bad, and you will forget pretty much instantaneously unless you are very unlucky! Good luck!

TatianaBis · 01/06/2020 07:51

Hell yeah. Appendicitis. That was far worse. I needed intravenous morphine.

MilkRunningOutAgain · 01/06/2020 07:52

Migraines are definitely more painful and I had 1 forceps and 1 ventouse delivery. Plus tooth ache and dental surgery.

Back2WorkForMe · 01/06/2020 07:53

No, labour pain was the worse. It is a funny kind of pain though that you can get though and you get your baby at the end of it! I had no pain relief.
Good luck op.

Pugsrus · 01/06/2020 07:54

Gallbladder ,would rather give birth any day

toothfairy73 · 01/06/2020 07:55

Dental pain definitely

Finewine1976 · 01/06/2020 07:57

Gallstones

OneTitWonder · 01/06/2020 08:00

Broken humerus - compound fracture with 6 separate breaks. I was going in and out of consciousness with the pain whilst waiting for the ambulance. Morphine did nothing to reduce the pain, it is seared into my consciousness.

20viona · 01/06/2020 08:01

Giving birth is extremely painful but it's a means to an end. I had a retained placenta and that was far more painful, being rummaged around inside for an hour with no pain relief.
