What would you do differently?

Never trust a person whose smile doesn't reach their eyes.

An old friend of mine gave me this advice once when he was warning me off someone.

"Don't marry for love."

I've taken that to mean don't get married JUST because you love someone. There should respect, security, shared goals, etc.

What other people think of you is none of your business.

'You mind your bag'. This from my Mum, who is 100% certain I will clear an entire shelf of bone china in House of Fraser with my handbag on my shoulder every time I turn around (I never have!) I'm 49...

Advice for choosing a life partner which so many women on MN need:

'Love don't last. Cooking do.'

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

No-one is busier than someone who doesn’t want to see you.

You do have time, it's just not a priority.

You don't have to give a reason when you say no to something. I didn't get this till I was in my mid 40s but it's very liberating.

Don’t believe all you read in the internet - there’s a lot of people who would say one thing and do the opposite......

Never share any photo you wouldn't want your Granny to see.

If you wouldn't write it in a court deposition, don't put it on social media.

Also, when in doubt, don't.

Told to me by a transient friend when I was winding myself up about something I couldn't change. Strangely enough, this piece of advice will make me always remember the friend.

If you can run 2km, you can run 5km.

Very helpful when 5k seemed unobtainable, but I was making progress.

There are only two pieces of advice:

Never.

Don't forget to.

"Never spend money you don't have."

"Do a vocational degree so you have a job to go to in the end."

Both bits of advice from my parents.
