What would you do differently?

OP posts:
U2HasTheEdge · 31/05/2020 23:52

Never trust a person whose smile doesn't reach their eyes.

An old friend of mine gave me this advice once when he was warning me off someone.

CourtneyLurve · 31/05/2020 23:52

"Don't marry for love."

I've taken that to mean don't get married JUST because you love someone. There should respect, security, shared goals, etc.

Tillygetsit · 31/05/2020 23:57

What other people think of you is none of your business.

TimeWastingButFun · 31/05/2020 23:57

'You mind your bag'. This from my Mum, who is 100% certain I will clear an entire shelf of bone china in House of Fraser with my handbag on my shoulder every time I turn around (I never have!) I'm 49...

Packamack · 31/05/2020 23:57

Advice for choosing a life partner which so many women on MN need:

'Love don't last. Cooking do.'

Classiccar · 01/06/2020 08:43

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

No-one is busier than someone who doesn’t want to see you.

TeenPlusTwenties · 01/06/2020 08:53

You do have time, it's just not a priority.

PrincessButtockUp · 01/06/2020 08:57

Everyone else is winging it, too.

crispysausagerolls · 01/06/2020 09:00

They are only chores if you make them chores. Lots of eye rolling from
This as a teenager, but it got me through a lot of housework as I grew up - stick the music on and dance whilst you do it etc 😂

Now I wonder if perhaps my father stole
It from Snow White’s “whistle while you work”
🤦🏻‍♀️

onlyconnect · 01/06/2020 09:15

You don't have to give a reason when you say no to something. I didn't get this till I was in my mid 40s but it's very liberating.

Seeitsortit · 01/06/2020 09:51

Don’t believe all you read in the internet - there’s a lot of people who would say one thing and do the opposite......

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 01/06/2020 10:15

Never share any photo you wouldn't want your Granny to see.

TheVanguardSix · 01/06/2020 10:19

If you wouldn't write it in a court deposition, don't put it on social media.

TheVanguardSix · 01/06/2020 10:20

Also, when in doubt, don't.

Eckhart · 01/06/2020 10:22

'Forget.'

Told to me by a transient friend when I was winding myself up about something I couldn't change. Strangely enough, this piece of advice will make me always remember the friend.

Reversiblesequinsforadults · 01/06/2020 10:34

If you can run 2km, you can run 5km.

Very helpful when 5k seemed unobtainable, but I was making progress.

echt · 01/06/2020 10:49

There are only two pieces of advice:

Never.

Don't forget to.

SweetPetrichor · 01/06/2020 10:55

"Never spend money you don't have."

"Do a vocational degree so you have a job to go to in the end."

Both bits of advice from my parents.

Schmooo · 01/06/2020 11:17

If in doubt, don't

Give people a second chance, but not a third

If you don't play, then you can't win

lojoko · 01/06/2020 11:20

Never accept responsibility without power.

cherryblossommorningstoday · 01/06/2020 16:12

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday

Bellabatwings · 01/06/2020 16:18

Buy cheap, buy twice!

Mypathtriedtokillme · 01/06/2020 16:22

“It’s ok to quit. Starting over is easy compared to that”

“No. Is a full sentence. Say no, mean it and no explanation.”

Disquieted1 · 01/06/2020 16:40

Has anyone else noticed that just about every piece of advice is contradicted by another? .

ShebaShimmyShake · 01/06/2020 16:45

@Yugi

Why do you care what that arsehole thinks about you? He's an arsehole!
Oh goodness, I've said this to people...
