What would you do differently?

Oh, and only boring people get bored.

Always carry your own drink in your right hand. You'll never get mixed up when you buy a round/make cups of tea etc. My husband has sugar in his tea (yuk) and I never get the horror of swigging a sugary mouthful by accident.

“Death is a necessary part of life.”

When I crashed my car and was so upset about the broken bumper: “why do we put so much value into material things? A car is just a lump of metal.” Sounds ridiculous but it really made me think far less about material things. It has made me appreciate the little things in life. Instead of striving for a brand new car/phone/[insert material possession here] I focus on the beauty in nature and how much joy I can get just from walking my dog/growing my veggies/feeding the birds. Life is so much more than a flash car or instagram lifestyle.

Don’t listen to what people say, look at what they do.
If you educate a girl you educate a family (my mother).
Be prepared for what life throws at you as you never know what is around the corner.

Don’t let any man make shit of you

Always have some mad money

Don't rely on the married women's pension. Pay one in your own right. Advice my dear old Dad gave me when I started my first job.

VivienScott · 31/05/2020 19:36

Be kind to yourself.
The words of the serenity prayer, I’m not an alcoholic, but it still resonates.
If everyone else can do it, why can’t you.
This too shall pass.

When buying plates imagine what your gravy will look like on them 😂

@Janaih

The best way to destroy your enemy is to make them your friend. It also confuses the fuck out of them.

During an argument, never speak more than 2 sentences at a time.

I love that last one, will be using that.

Mine is advice my dad gave me when at 18 I was trying to work out what to do next and was terrified I would regret my choice. He told me there's no point making decisions based on what you fear you'll regret. Instead put energy into thinking clearly and identify your reasons for your decision. That way, when you look back, you'll at least know why you did what you did.

And a bit cliché but: be true to yourself. A friend drunkenly told me this once and it's stuck with me. For similar reasons to the one above, you give yourself little to regret if you act according to your values and don't compromise yourself for other people.

Also: Don't get blind drunk around people who don't love you.

You can't give away your arse and shit through your ribs.

Advice given to someone else but has stood me in good stead ever since.

LuluJakey1 · 31/05/2020 19:43

What is past help should be past grief.

My granny used to say it. It means don't worry over things you can't change. So true!

chubbyhotchoc · 31/05/2020 19:44

Don't chase boys

If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you have always got. In a nutshell the definition of madness is always doing the same thing but expecting a different ending

getdownonit · 31/05/2020 19:59

Just imagine someone in the bath. They are no more scary then you.

Most of life is froth and bubble
two things stand like stone
kindness in another's trouble
courage in your own.

Education: once you have it, no matter what, it can never be taken away from you. Thanks Dad. 🤗

A qualification: with this, a SAHM can go back to work at a moment's notice, if she ever needs to. Thanks Mum. 🤗

DrManhattan · 31/05/2020 20:15

Never drive your car (with your child in the back) to test your eye sight.
