How do you sleep together?

Seriously. How do couples sleep together and manage to get a good night's sleep?

I haven't spent the full night with my husband in over 2 years. Whenever we try it results in an argument. Either because one of us is taking up too much space, or one is breathing too loudly or snoring, disturbing the other. And then there's the fact we both often get up to go to the loo in the night which disturbs the other. So he will always leave to the spare room so we can actually sleep.

How do people manage it? We have a king size bed and we aren't big people. I never imagined spending my married life like this.

Been married for 19 years. Still very happy - I suspect because we sleep apart!

The German method of two mattresses in a big frame, with two duvets, may solve some of the problems, while allowing closeness and intimacy.

Tricky if you're both light sleepers! My husband is a light sleeper but I sleep like a stone and don't snore and don't move about in my sleep and don't get up in the night so I don't disturb him (or so he says!) and his getting up doesn't wake me as I sleep so deeply. Just luck I suppose!

We start off in separate rooms, because I like to read and faff around to wind down for a while after coming to bed and he lasts about 5 minutes with a book before he wants the lights out. Plus, he snores badly in the first couple of hours of sleep, but is better after that. If he wakes for the loo in the night (most nights) he will then come and join me instead of going back to the spare room, and occasionally vice-versa, so we usually wake up together. Works for us.

King sized bed. Neither of us used to snore when we first got together some 22 years ago, but now both of us do, intermittently. Occasionally we've had a cat sleeping with us, too (When one of our cats was elderly he used to snore, too!). We seem to manage although there are times I disturb him or he disturbs me. He doesn't normally go for a wee in the night, I go 2-3 times. My sleep isn't that good anymore generally but we've never thought of not sleeping together. I think both of us sleep deeply once we are asleep and don't hear the other.

Much of the time, before lockdown, DP worked away during the week but he always misses snuggling up with me despite complaining about my snoring! Grin

King sized bed
Separate bedding.

We sleep fine.
Double bed, kingsize duvet.
both of us snore occasionally, the other either ignores it or gives a shove.

Annebronte · 31/05/2020 16:28

Super king bed and an excellent mattress so that you can’t detect the other moving around.

choosesoap · 31/05/2020 16:32

another vote for superking size bed and the good matress with foam topper - you cant feel when the other person is moving around, even if they bounce.

Musicforsmorks · 31/05/2020 16:35

Sure a super king bed won’t help with snoring issues..

Bluesheep8 · 31/05/2020 16:42

We have quilt wars. So the solution is to have a bigger quilt then is needed for the size of bed. So we have a king size bed and a super king quilt.

Separate duvets

DuckALaurent · 31/05/2020 17:47

King size bed and I sleep like the dead.

Nanny0gg · 31/05/2020 17:51

We don't!

Bliss!!
