Nextdoor have bought a fucking beagle

That barks a lot. Still a puppy so should I be worried it's going to get worse, or could it actually get better?

I know beagles are known for being noisy which makes me question their breed choice considering we live in Edwardian maisonettes in SW London, ie, close together!

The irony is, they used to complain bitterly about their upstairs neighbour before the left.

What about when they both go back to work!!

Aibu to get this to stop ASAP?

@Drivingdownthe101 sounds about right 😂

I've read about them refusing and having to be carried back!

vanillandhoney · 28/05/2020 14:07

@badlad only 100 miles a day? You absolute slacker Wink

grumpyorange · 28/05/2020 14:13

OP have you ever tried stopping a dog from barking? Do you just ask it politely?

YABU it is a puppy and puppies will bark for all sorts of reasons e.g if you make a noise!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/05/2020 14:18

Is the "50 miles walk " thing like

"Is a Leylandii suitable for a garden"?

"Yes , if your garden is 1 acre and you plant it in the middle"

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/05/2020 14:54

vanillandhoney and now he’s 10 he prefers just sitting on chairs in the sun!

My best friend has a lovely beagle of about 7 years of age. He's a really nice dog, but he wakes them up every morning barking. It's got quite a lot worse as he's got older. It's at dawn at the moment, which isn't great. Beagles have a very loud bark too; I suppose being a hound that was probably a good thing.

I'd definitely not mess around, this could get a hell of a lot worse.

Ok, so we’ve established you have a leasehold property. Who do you pay ground rent/service charge to? Is it a Managing Agent or do you pay the freeholder direct? Whoever, you need to write a letter to them. You have a right under your lease for quiet enjoyment of your property and you are not getting this.

ChilliCheese123 · 28/05/2020 15:10

Beagles belong on country estates

ChilliCheese123 · 28/05/2020 15:11

Also loling at a human walking 50 miles a day

As a teen I think I used to manage about 8 per day with our collie. such a terrible owner

joystir59 · 28/05/2020 15:23

We have a JRT who loves the sound of his own voice, and lovely neighbours both sides. We do not let our dog bark unchecked. As soon as he starts we chastise him and make him stop. It's not acceptable to let a dog bark from.5.30am until 6am unchecked. That would really get on my nerves if it happened every/most mornings.

vanillandhoney · 28/05/2020 15:26

@Drivingdownthe101 here's mine aged two enjoying a paddle down the beach yesterday!

Gorgeous hound Smile

Yes we have contact details for the freeholder and I can send a letter if it continues to be a problem.

I feel bad because I like the owners but barking is just awful!

I'm sure it will quieten when it stops fucking op. Are you sure they have just bought one - difficult to fuck on its own I'd have thought. Poor beagle.

I love this - so true! The adjective fucking should go before 'bought' and not 'beagle' in the title - and they say grammar doesn't matter Smile

TiddlestheCat · 28/05/2020 16:07

Could you use earplugs to help make sure it doesn't wake you up? Failing that ask them to move it to a room where you are less likely to hear it first thing. You could also suggest that perhaps they look into getting it a barking control collar. Our dog can be annoyingly yappy on walks. He just doesn't shut up. We've found the collar to be very effective. It either vibrates if they bark or let's out a high pitched whistle, neither of which the dog particularly likes. It doesn't hurt/scare them, but does distract them. After a few times wearing it, we were able to take it off as he had become less noisy.

Pinkblueberry · 28/05/2020 16:07

A 50 mile daily run for a beagle?? I don’t think any dog gets a 50 mile daily run - except maybe a husky attached to a sleigh. How is an owner supposed to keep up with that? It would take you about 3 or 4 hours to walk just 10 miles...
We used to have a beagle - they don’t run, they amble and stop and sniff absolutely everything. It would take you about a week to walk 50 miles with one.

Barking again. Howling

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/05/2020 16:35

So their landlord presumably has the same leasehold agreement, so their tenancy agreement must say they can't have a pet. That may not get you anywhere, unfortunately.

Part of the great upheaval in the rental sector includes a move towards a blanket 'No Pets' being deemed unenforceable!

However... their spcific choice of pet is, as any breeder will attest, not sutable for a flat! Gather you evidence about the breed rather than dogs in general!

wowsaid · 28/05/2020 16:36

Oh really... but they wouldn't want to annoy their landlord would they?

TerribleCustomerCervix · 28/05/2020 16:38

Pft, I bloody wouldn’t. They made a bad life decision and aren’t doing anything to mitigate the impact on either the poor dog or their neighbours.

The dog isn’t barking or howling because it’s delighted to be home alone. He’s upset and doesn’t understand why hes been taken away from it’s mum, and then the new Centre of His World fuck off and leave him for hours every day.

I’m not even a dog lover but people like this make me so angry.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 28/05/2020 16:43

I couldn't have dragged either of my beagles 50 miles. I remember the day we took one for 10 miles in a day and he just gave up. If he could have said fuck off he would.

Mind, if I let the little bastards off the lead they would run forever. Unless there was food in the way...

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2020 16:43

No advice but lots of sympathy, OP. Neighbours at the far end of our street have one, and my goodness he's loud. Barks and howls at anything and everything. It must drive their immediate neighbours nuts.

grumpyorange · 28/05/2020 16:48

@wowsaid have they actually gone out? How old is the pup?

Alsohuman · 28/05/2020 16:51

@wowsaid

Oh really... but they wouldn't want to annoy their landlord would they?
Why not? They can’t be evicted.
SecondaryBurnzzz · 28/05/2020 16:52

OP, have only read the first few pages OP, but do they now have new upstairs neighbours? surely they won't be happy about it either, and neither will the other neighbours.

Are they out at work all day? If so, can you ask them if they intend to put puppy into doggy day care? You are within your rights to ask them what their plans are and then you can decide if you're going to escalate to the landlord/managing agent.
