That barks a lot. Still a puppy so should I be worried it's going to get worse, or could it actually get better?

I know beagles are known for being noisy which makes me question their breed choice considering we live in Edwardian maisonettes in SW London, ie, close together!

The irony is, they used to complain bitterly about their upstairs neighbour before the left.

What about when they both go back to work!!

Aibu to get this to stop ASAP?

I’m surrounded on all sides by dog owners who don’t care about the racket their dogs make. Selfish bastards.

Interesting new thread

The idiots now getting rid of their “lockdown” puppies are utterly abhorrent http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3922809-The-idiots-now-getting-rid-of-their-lockdown-puppies-are-utterly-abhorrent

I have a lovely but very, very barky dog. We live in a detached house luckily. We’ve had her trained and it’s gotten better but all it takes is for someone to walk past the window and it’s ‘Yap yap yap’

Irony is she’s such a mard arse, barks and barks but wouldn’t dare approach anyone.

Shortfeet · 28/05/2020 22:36

@Tunnocks I’m fortunate to live in a detached house but I can still hear my neighbour’s dog barking from inside his detached house 😳

tinatsarina · 28/05/2020 22:47

Love the fact that people are comparing puppies to babies 😂 dogs and puppies aren't children or babies even though some people pretend they are. The dog will soon learn the early barking gets it nowhere and it will stop.

Lou670 · 28/05/2020 23:01

50 miles??Confused

LakieLady · 28/05/2020 23:12

*Tinatsarina, we made the mistake of rewarding our girl with a biscuit when she stopped barking to command. Y'know, reward based training and all that.

She learned to go outside, have a few barks, then come back in and demand a biscuit.

It's rather Blush to be outsmarted by your dog.

RenoSusan · 29/05/2020 17:41

You can buy a stop barking device on Amazon. Buy the bird house not the egg as the bird house uses less batteries. Set it next to the wall you can hear the barking from. It emit a high sound that you can't hear but the dog can. I bought one when a neighbor moved in with a large dog that barked constantly. Barking stopped immediately except for an occasional bark to see if it was still on.

Leedsfan247 · 29/05/2020 17:45

Really sorry but all dogs bark. If you don’t like it move to a rural area where houses a spread apart??

DanceItOut · 29/05/2020 17:51

You have my sympathy OP a house several doors down from us has dogs. Multiple. Until I reported the noise thought it was a different neighbour to the one it was because I have never seen these dogs. This couple has FIVE chihuahuas that they shut out of the house and put in outdoor kennels at night where they bark. Constantly. All bloody night they bark and then during the day intermittently they bark also. I’m not surprised they are barking because I’ve never seen the poor dogs be walked and their garden is tiny. Multiple neighbours have complained to the council and various local authorities but two years later I still lie in bed at night trying to block out the noise of barking. Had to swap bedrooms with the DCs because they wouldn’t be able to ignore it and go to sleep.

Lindsey0006 · 29/05/2020 18:14

Perhaps offer to walk the dog during the day if you can. The barking may settle down.

bigmumsymcgraw · 29/05/2020 18:18

Give them a chance to train it ffs

Lincolnfield · 29/05/2020 18:26

It’s really difficult. We, thankfully live in a detached house with quite a bit of land around us. We have three retrievers, two flatcoats who are eight and 18 months and an old golden retriever who is 15. My goldie is very deaf, senile and creaky. We go out at about 6am every morning because it gets too hot later in the day. My old boy barks, the most monotonous bark you can imagine for the few minutes it takes me to get their leads on and out of the door.

Fingers crossed, none of my neighbours have complained but I’m very conscious of him barking. Sadly, at his great age, there is not much I can do about it and he shuts up as soon as I open the door as we leave the house.

Whoever has said 50 mile runs is barking more then my old dog! My boys are working dogs. The younger ones do trials and even they couldn’t run that far!

@madcatladyforever - you’re very welcome to your cat crap! I’d much rather have a dog barking than filthy cats crapping all over my garden and spraying on my patio tubs. My grandkids play out there (pre lockdown) and I’m sick of the cat crap on their clothes and shoes. Why the local cats come on our land when we’ve got three dogs, I’ve never understood but I loathe the dirty bloody things. They’re out all night and fighting and yowling at one another in the early hours.

If I let my dogs roam around and crap everywhere I’d be getting a visit from the council but cat owners think it’s perfectly okay.

Nettie1964 · 29/05/2020 18:27

Bloody be able says it allSmile

Nettie1964 · 29/05/2020 18:27

Sorry fucking

Peanutnpip · 29/05/2020 18:31

I’ve been way more disturbed by people’s kids. Sorry and all that.

Whycantibeapuppy · 29/05/2020 18:31

I have a springer spaniel, not known for barking particularly but I would be so embarrassed if she did! The only time she’s noisy is during playtime so I’m very strict that that’s only at reasonable hours. Its quite likely the barking is lack of attention Or lack of training. I’d keep asking until they make a conscious effort to minimise the barking, maybe it should sleep in their room etc. Failing that offer them the number of a great behaviourist!

Crumpetsforthequeen · 29/05/2020 18:34

Totally read this as they bought a bagel Grin

CountryGirl1234 · 29/05/2020 18:34

Beagles are by far the worst breed you could own for being naughty and unashamedly greedy.

Alleycat1 · 29/05/2020 18:38

Our neighbours have a beagle. The quietest dog ever! So much so that we were worried that she had been stolen or was ill. Naughty and greedy but very lovable.

Haha, in the part of Ireland where I live the word 'beagle' sounds exactly like 'bagel'. It totally confused me when I first came to live here Grin
Lincolnfield · 29/05/2020 18:44

Beagles are a hunting breed so not the dog of choice for living in a City at all.

I worked in London some years ago and it was heartbreaking to see labradors, German Shepherds and the like being trailed around Russell Square or Lincolns Inn Fields on a lead looking bloody miserable. There’s no wonder these working breeds have behavioural problems. Daft as it might sound, greyhounds and whippets are much better suited to City life because they are the laziest dogs on earth. One quick burst of a run and they’re happy to sleep all day.

deedeegee · 29/05/2020 18:48

Find local dog trainers eg bark busters and pass on their details?

RachelHRD · 29/05/2020 19:05

That's rubbish. Have you owned one? I.have had several Beagles and they aren't excessively barky, greedy or naughty. No more than other dog breeds I've had.
Regarding having one in a flat, it's fine as long as they still get enough exercise. My current one is 3 and doesn't require lots ilof exercise and spends most of the day sleeping. We are in a flat due to relationship split and he's absolutely fine.
The 'generalised' responses on here that all Beagles are a nightmare are rubbish, just like kids they each have their own personality and both good and bad traits.
