I had a response from my Tory MP, head of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. Key takeaway for me was;

"However - for many of us - it appears that this [the actions of Cummings] was certainly not in keeping with the spirit of the Government’s message".

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 22:59

Do we actually know that? Where's the proof of this?

Oh give bloody over

He s a chief bloody advisor to the Government.

Where's the proof he doesn't just go in and organise the gov stationary?

Clavinova · 31/05/2020 23:00

Cummings edited that blog to make specific reference to SARS coronaviruses rather than to a general pandemic.

That might be so, but the Guardian miss out the 15 mentions of the term “pandemic” on his blog and the fact that he did comment on the article that referred to coronavirus in the unaltered version.

How to the point.

well that's one to tell the grandchildren.

CendrillonSings · 31/05/2020 23:09

Oh dear - looks like the public have turned against the witch-hunt after all. The Conservatives are back to a double-digit lead Grin:

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 23:14

what witch hunt @CendrillonSings ?

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 23:17

the fact that he did comment on the article that referred to coronavirus in the unaltered version.

The original article just had the word [example]. No references to coronavirus Ed at all.

The edited article had a whole paragraph specifically related to a SARS coronavirus inserted instead of [example].

So, conveniently, he could have added an “example” of any pandemic virus.

CendrillonSings · 31/05/2020 23:23

sleepingpup

The one the entire media has been pushing for the last ten days until they overplayed their hand and people got bored of it Wink

You always make me laugh. 😂

Peregrina · 31/05/2020 23:39

Welcome back Cendrillon - funny you went quiet when the Tory support was visibly going down the plughole. If Peter Bone can think Dominic Cummings can go, that will be good enough for a lot of people. I doubt whether he's too worried about his majority at the next election.

FliesandPies · 31/05/2020 23:41

There's a bit missing off that poll -

Latest YouGov polling (for the Times): Who would be the best Prime Minister?
Johnson (CON): 37% (-2)
Starmer (LAB): 32% (+5)
Poll period: 29-30 May
(Changes compared with 19th May poll)

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 23:41

the fact that he did comment on the article that referred to coronavirus in the unaltered version

Well he cut and pasted a shed load of stuff (sounds familiar) from the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, which was referenced using a hyperlink and is where “pandemic” was used a number of times.

You’d have to look quite hard to find where the SARS coronavirus paragraph came from, as that was from a completely different publication found via hyperlink in an unquoted part of the BAS paper and thus not mentioned or referenced in the original blog.

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 23:46

what's the whole blog business about @SabrinaThwaite ?

He referred quite a lot to it during the Rose Garden explanation. ( as if it makes any difference tbh ) what do you think is it significance? Do you think it's just coincidence he altered it the day he got back to London?

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 23:50

No I don’t think it’s a coincidence. There was no reason to mention it in his presser. I think he wants everyone to believe he’s a superforecaster, but was too arrogant to realise that it can be straightforward to check up on these things and that people would verify his claims.

Mumratheevergiving · 31/05/2020 23:51

Cendrillion Strings -It's more whitewash than witch-hunt from where I'm sitting. The public still want recourse for Cummings actions & it is the Government that can provide that - inquiry, dismissal, resignation or apology. Look at the comments on newspaper articles or the threads here, the public still has plenty to say on this matter.

From the Code of Conduct for Special Advisors
"Special advisers must not take public part in political controversy, through any form of statement whether in speeches or letters to the press, or in books, social media, articles or leaflets. They must observe discretion and express comment with moderation, avoiding personal attacks, and would not normally speak in public for their Minister or the Department"

I'd say this has caused political controversy wouldn't you? How long can the Government let the actions of a SPAD continue to be a distraction to doing their actual jobs?

PigletJohn · 31/05/2020 23:55

I can see why Clarinova wants to throw in all this irrelevant nonsense.

To divert from the key fact.

"From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction - you must stay at home."

And Cummings didn't.

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 23:56

I think he wants everyone to believe he’s a superforecaster,

Ironic isn't it for the guy who couldn't forecast he might need local childcare.

PigletJohn · 31/05/2020 23:57

Cendrillon I mean.

Who's Clarinova?

Peregrina · 01/06/2020 01:18

Clarinova/Clavinova - also sometimes referred to as Cut'n'pastinova, for her enthusiastic cutting and pasting chunks of stuff.

Roussette · 01/06/2020 07:10

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer travelled to her second home on two separate weekends - the witness who claimed that he saw Dominic Cummings again on the 19th April has now confessed that he made this up for a joke
We know this stupid person making up the story. I think what she did was far less than DC
The Scottish Medical Officer was travelling 35-40 miles. A little different to 265 miles I think you'll agree. With all the potential for petrol and loo stops on the way

Looks like an outbuilding made of concrete - tiny windows and a corrugated roof
Irrelevant. His name is on the title deeds and there's far more to this, I can provide a link on it all if you want.

Do we actually know that? Where's the proof of this?
On being the architect of the whole Govt message and writing StayAtHome. This information is all over the internet. Apparently he is a fan of three word slogans. Can't be bothered to go and get you links to prove all this, but denying it makes you look a bit silly.

I don't know about him being a superforcaster... more like a superspreader in my book.Grin

How Trumpy calling it a witch hunt. He does that when facts get in the way of his lies.

Bottom line is... at the very least, did DC drive a bus through the spirit of the message StayAtHome. If Cendrillon and Clavinova say 'no' to this... yep they really are DC's Mum and Dad!

SheWranglesRugRats · 01/06/2020 07:16

Pandemic Has been number one on the national risk register since it was created in 2008. It hardly takes a genius to predict on a blog.

Clavinova · 01/06/2020 07:30

From the Code of Conduct for Special Advisors
"Special advisers must not take public part in political controversy, through any form of statement whether in speeches or letters to the press"

"29 May Sir Mark Sedwill [Head of the Civil Service] gave the go ahead to a press conference held by Dominic Cummings in the Downing Street rose garden, he has told MPs."

"In a letter copied to SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford and shadow Cabinet Office minister Rachel Reeves, the cabinet secretary said he believed it was “appropriate” for Cummings to explain his actions on government premises given the recent controversy over his conduct in his official role."

"It is unprecedented for a special adviser to give a press conference about their own conduct on Downing Street grounds."

"In his letters to the two MPs, Sedwill said the statement had been authorised by the prime minister under the special advisers’ code of conduct “given the continuing public interest in this matter.”

“As the event related to his conduct in his official role, I considered it appropriate for the No.10 press office to facilitate it on government premises,” he said."

"Sedwill was responding to letters sent by the two MPs, both sent on 23 May, raising concerns about Cummings’s conduct."

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer did not offer a reasonable excuse for her weekends away.

Roussette · 01/06/2020 07:39

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer did not offer a reasonable excuse for her weekends away
She resigned!

What is the point of a reasonable excuse when she resigned?! That closes the matter.

DC didn't offer a reasonable excuse either. Unless you think testing your eyes whilst driving 30 miles to a beauty spot is reasonable??
And he didn't resign.

This isn't going away. And we won't forget this.
