Dr Jenny Harries spoke of the “exceptional circumstance” of an adult unable to care for a young child during the pandemic."

“A small child clearly is a vulnerable individual, so in this case, although we are encouraging everybody to stay in their own households–that’s the unit with the same risk of exposure–clearly if you have adults who are unable to look after a small child, that is an exceptional circumstance,” Dr Harries said."

Hoisted by your own petard there Clavinova
There were NO exceptional circumstances. He did not have COVID at the time. He went up to Durham in case he got it. He said that at the press conf. And his child was not in danger. And he has family and his wife does too, in London. They chose to go off away from high case diseased London up the country to stay on his father's farm.
Against the restrictions and totally driving a lorry through the whole spirit of StayAtHome, the slogan he invented.

Why are you talking about Jess Phillips. We're not talking about her.

Peregrina · 31/05/2020 21:11

Admittedly these are poorly drafted laws, as ones made in a hurry often are.

Clavinova · 31/05/2020 21:12

Hoisted by your own petard there Clavinova

Quite clearly not -

"Durham Constabulary does not consider that by locating himself at his father’s premises, Mr Cummings committed an offence contrary to regulation 6 of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020."

Roussette · 31/05/2020 21:13

I don't care anything about what Durham Constabulary say. I care about the whole hypocrisy by an arrogant twat who thinks it's OK for him to break the restrictions he was instrumental in setting up.

The fact he hasn't been sacked/resigned will have dire consequences for this country

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 21:13

Just wait until you see the new regs laid down today for presentation to Parliament tomorrow.

Alsohuman · 31/05/2020 21:14

Frankly I don’t give a shit what Durham police says. Nor do over 100 Tory MPs or the 70 odd % of people in today’s poll. It’s not up to the police to determine innocence or guilt in any case.

Roussette · 31/05/2020 21:14

As I've said... I don't care about what Durham Constabulary. I'm talking about the vulnerable child bit.

His son wasn't.
Yep. Hoisted by your own petard quoting all that guff

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 21:15

omg. when the actual architect of the actual lockdown can't get his ACT together for childcare for one child, locally Hmm

God help those LESS forewarned, those less well connected, those less privileged.

Except of course THEY did great! They STAYED AT HOME.

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 21:17

"Durham Constabulary does not consider that by locating himself at his father’s premises, Mr Cummings committed an offence contrary to regulation 6 of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020."

Me and 100.100s other across all parties don't give a shit.

Do you drive to test your eyes @Clavinova. ?

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 21:20

You make yourself look stupid justifying that man @Clavinova

You might be delighted there are no consequences to answer. Fine. Many are.
But don't try and make out what he did was right.

Roussette · 31/05/2020 21:21

Exactly. His wife's brother and family live in London. His niece lives in London. And yet he couldn't cope, and had to go 260 miles just in case.

Pathetic.

And now we're hearing he owns the 'cottage' he stayed in... second home... the Scottish Health Minister resigned for going to a second home. Let alone driving round to beauty spots to test her eyes!

SophieB100 · 31/05/2020 21:48

@Clavinova
Can you explain why Cummings thought changing the blog was a good idea?
To help you recall - here's an article about how that was proven to be a load of tosh:

He went to his second home? Shock it just gets worse

Clavinova · 31/05/2020 22:22

This was written the day before the police statement -

"Adam Wagner [writing for The Times] a barrister at Doughty Street chambers, said that, looking at what the police would have done at the time, it was unlikely that Mr Cummings would have been fined for travelling to Durham."

the Scottish Health Minister resigned for going to a second home.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer travelled to her second home on two separate weekends - the witness who claimed that he saw Dominic Cummings again on the 19th April has now confessed that he made this up for a joke.

Was the rumour about his mother's birthday party made up as well? The sighting in the garden on the 5th April was rumoured to be his mother's birthday party but her brother (DC's uncle) died that day - unlucky coincidence if her brother died on her birthday.

He went to his second home?

Looks like an outbuilding made of concrete - tiny windows and a corrugated roof.

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 22:29

Looks like an outbuilding made of concrete - tiny windows and a corrugated roof

Because that’s where you’d park a 4 yr old for 2 weeks Hmm

If it’s just an “outbuilding”, how did they cook food and keep clean?

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 22:30

Looks like an outbuilding made of concrete - tiny windows and a corrugated roof.*

irrelevant!!!

Mumratheevergiving · 31/05/2020 22:31

SleepingPup So you know what I am so sick of people picking apart the technicalities- he bloody helped make the rules. There should be NO technicalities or minor breaches or breaches at all. it is shite.
The sex professor didn't even leave his house and we knew that was wrong

This^ I am so sick of this being painted by Cummings defenders as anything other than a public health issue that the Government should be accountable for.

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 22:32

As it happens he lived there before . Wtf does it matter what it looks like?

Clavinova · 31/05/2020 22:38

Can you explain why Cummings thought changing the blog was a good idea?

No idea - I'm not one of his fans - I don't read his stuff. Although the Guardian have left out a few details;

"The PA news agency did find 15 mentions of the term “pandemic” on Mr Cummings’ blog"

"Mr Cummings does not mention coronavirus himself but does offer comment on Mr Klotz’s article, saying it shows “how the supposedly most secure bio-labs have serious security problems and clearly present an unacceptable risk of causing a disastrous pandemic."

"In April the section of Mr Klotz’s writing that mentioned coronavirus, a little over 100 words, was added to Mr Cummings’ post—replacing the words “an example.”

Mumratheevergiving · 31/05/2020 22:41

Clavinova - I have come to the conclusion that you must be Dominic Cummings mum. There is absolutely no other conceivable reason that anyone would be wasting their time defending his cock and bull story and the subsequent refusal of the Government to hold an inquiry, dismiss him or apologise for how much his actions have upset people. Sorry to have outed you to Mumsnet.

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 22:42

Cummings edited that blog to make specific reference to SARS coronaviruses rather than to a general pandemic.

It’s really very easy to check the before and after versions.

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 22:42

Was the rumour about his mother's birthday party made up as well? The sighting in the garden on the 5th April was rumoured to be his mother's birthday party but her brother (DC's uncle) died that day - unlucky coincidence if her brother died on her birthday.

Who the fuck cares?

He was wandering around in County Durham when he lives in London claiming he had to test his eyesight.

He wrote lockdown and fucked it up himself.

Shite, shite and more shite.

sleepingpup · 31/05/2020 22:46

And don't talk about COINCIDENCES! god alive,

Clavinova · 31/05/2020 22:50

He wrote lockdown

Do we actually know that? Where's the proof of this?

SabrinaThwaite · 31/05/2020 22:51

Oh and it appears that Cummings also retrospectively added tags to previous articles and posts that were tangentially related to make it look like he’d been writing about pandemics for ages.
