I think Boris and co have handled this dreadfully.

I don't think Corbyn would have done better based on what he did as leader of labour.

I can't say if Keir Stamer would have some better because he's no track record to base my opinions on. But so far I thinks he's playing a sensible game and cautiously challenging and gently making comments without going for the kill.

Time will tell if his strategy is going to work for him or not.

monkeyonthetable · 29/05/2020 09:21

I've just signed the Change.org petition. Also been reading up on what a massively influential and successful strategist Cummings is. he seems able to reduce public desire to four-syllable instructions that BoJo can follow. (Get Brexit Done; Take Back Control.)

I recommend:
Sack Cummings Now.

If we say nothing else, just this, very loud, non-stop, it might work. BoJo has been primed by Cummings to jump to these four-syllable instructions and the placid majority seem happy enough with them too. Hmm

YouTheCat · 29/05/2020 10:03

I'm way way over 30.

The only Johnson can pull this back is to sack Cummings.

Roussette · 29/05/2020 10:27

bob
I read an interesting piece this morning which states that a lot of the complainers 're D.C. are under 30
Interesting. And daft, given I'm over double that age. And there are very many I know who feel the same and aren't under 30.

Nothing to do with 'us'. Some threads on social media?
I did laugh at that. What power we have! We've made Cummings
famous, just us on here! Laughable

solieltoday · 29/05/2020 10:30

monkey - yes, I think you could be onto something here. Politics has indeed been reduced to four-syllable slogans since Cummings has been in control, so I think all we can do is send one back. There’s not point trying to appeal to any sense of integrity in this govt. No point in journalists or parliamentarians actually asking questions or trying to engage in a meaningful debate. They should just repeat - “Sack Cummings now” ad infinitum.

“Well er, I think er, what the British people want, is to er, move on, er yes and er...”

Sack Cummings now.

“Yes er, moving on to the next question please..,

Sack Cummings now.

Can you link to that article or tell us where you read that?

Destroyedpeople · 29/05/2020 10:37

It's a long time since I was 30 and I want these crooks out of government. I looked for the petition on change.org but couldn't see it....

sleepingpup · 29/05/2020 10:40

s) I read an interesting piece this morning which states that a lot of the complainers 're D.C. are under 30 .

😂😂😂😂

sleepingpup · 29/05/2020 10:40

In my dreams.😂

bobtrain · 29/05/2020 10:47

Well of course there are people older than 30,s that feel the same as you. I said a lot of the complainers were under 30 not all I have tried to look the the results again which was on my local newspaper website but they have updated the news so I can't locate it. It was done by a science group in London. I am way over 30 but found it interesting about the result.

StoneofDestiny · 29/05/2020 10:51

Yes sack Cummings now sounds good to me!
But if this PM and Cummings had any depth of character (or language), the Get Brexit done phrase would have been extended to Get Brexit done- then what?

solieltoday · 29/05/2020 10:56

Oh yes, the radical, “left-wing chatterati” (as mentioned on the other thread) of the under 30s. Is this who you mean Bob?

FYI, I’m a 47 year-old mum of 4 in the borough if Richmond-Upon-Thames. My eldest is nearer 30 than I am Grin

I’m so radical, I’ve even voted for Cameron and Osbourne in the past. Didn’t vote for this current pack of snakes though.

Wake up. People of all ages and demographics are alienated - not just the “young” or the “left-wing.”

YouTheCat · 29/05/2020 11:00

4000 new corona cases in the UK yesterday and they're talking about easing social distancing and reopening shops.

Alsohuman · 29/05/2020 11:03

I’m 66 and the bloke, who’s a 63 year old dyed in the wool Tory, both want Cummings gone.

The Sack Cummings Now slogan is excellent. Weakest PM in history works too. Johnson would hate that.

YouTheCat · 29/05/2020 11:05

I'm certainly left wing. I'm over 50. And all this 'chitterati' shite is just bandied about to make people think their views are not valid which is funny really as isn't that one of Cummings many tactics?

solieltoday · 29/05/2020 11:14

If the new lockdown-easing measures (meeting in groups of 6 etc) are not supposed to start until Monday, why did BJ feel the need to announce this at yesterday’s conference, rather than at the weekend?

Oh wait...,

Roussette · 29/05/2020 11:17

People of all ages and demographics are alienated

Exactly.

Roussette · 29/05/2020 11:18

Such clever tactics of Boris... throw us a Nandos opening or a BBQ with Granny, and we'll shut up.
Well... his scientific advisers looks really pained and worried.
I won't be listening to that arse Boris

Alsohuman · 29/05/2020 11:22

No meetings of six people here. Stuff him. Let’s hope, in digging his own grave, he’s not digging thousands of others too.

FliesandPies · 29/05/2020 11:23

@Destroyedpeople The petition is here

Close to a million signatures now. Not that it will make Cummings or Johnson do the right thing but should send a cold chill down the spine of the Tory party.

FliesandPies · 29/05/2020 11:25

If the new lockdown-easing measures (meeting in groups of 6 etc) are not supposed to start until Monday, why did BJ feel the need to announce this at yesterday’s conference, rather than at the weekend? Oh wait...,

Exactly. And so irresponsible and uncaring. I can't understand why Vallance and Whitty are still backing him up - or are they required to somehow? Or just want to keep their jobs I suppose..

YouTheCat · 29/05/2020 11:34

Still trying for herd immunity with no thought or care that thousands more will die.

SophieB100 · 29/05/2020 11:36

Congratulations everyone. You have turned D.C. who was a nobody into someone who is infamous. He will be able to write a book all about this and go down in history. If you all had shut up he would still be a nobody.

Thanks for your congrats @bobtrain
But we really can't take all the credit for the attention towards Cummings. I certainly hope he writes a book, I suggest a travel guide, "Castles I have visited".

And as you've regularly contributed to this thread, please don't tell us that we should have shut up.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

OP posts:
artisanparsnips · 29/05/2020 11:38

I don't think there are that many nobodies who have been played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Roussette · 29/05/2020 11:42

I make no apology for linking to this.... even if it causes bobtrain to hae a meltdown.

An interesting read if you're not in love with BJ/DC
