But look what the last week has proven quite neatly - look what the public thinks of Johnson right now:

His party is currently on 44% - that’s 1% higher than the vote share that won the election, which in itself was the highest vote share won by any party in 40 years.

What a disaster! Grin

LexMitior · 28/05/2020 22:56

Well they say a week is a long time in politics. It’s also a large drop and a good gain for Labour in a short time. I wouldn’t want any more of it if I were a Tory pollster...

Boris Johnson's approval rating had dropped to -1% having previously been at +25% a fortnight ago.

Overall government approval was at -2%, dropping 16 points in a single day.

I see you happily ignored this shit show completely.

CendrillonSings · 28/05/2020 23:37

I see you happily ignored this shit show completely

And? Which bit of 44% still voting Conservative is not factually true?

That’s after the entire media throwing everything they had at the Tories for a week - and they’d still win an election if one were held tomorrow!

I suspect matters will improve further as the witch-hunt fades into memory and people get out and enjoy the sun and the economy re-opens...

Alsohuman · 28/05/2020 23:46

You should change your user name to Pollyanna @CendrillonSings.

Leicester5 · 28/05/2020 23:54

Cendrillon's certainly got a one track mind

*You really do think the media runs the country?
*
No. I thought it was Boris Johnson. Aided by he SpAd.

But clearly BJ isn't up to the task because he is completely out of touch with public feeling. And himself even admitted this when he told the liaison party he isn't allowed to say what their targets are.

The media can only report a story if one exists.

Roussette · 29/05/2020 07:30

Love the witch hunt analogy... very Trump.
Yes, agree with you that Boris is trying to throw us a bone.. get out there and have your BBQs with your rellies, and forget what a shitshow I am.

It's not working.

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2020 07:44

I think his next move will be to decrease the number of pressers.

I think it'll become Monday - weekend catch up and perhaps a Thursday or Friday for weekend reminders.

He wants to silence the media and the public.

Leicester5 · 29/05/2020 07:54

Something a bit odd happened last night, I was flicking through the papers and DM were leading with a story about DC set to quit within 6 months after he'd dealt with civil servants and brexit, then it was promptly yanked.

I had to go back through my history to make sure I wasn't hallucinating but it was definitely there

Leicester5 · 29/05/2020 07:57

Ah it's elsewhere, it was weird the way it suddenly vanished

bobtrain · 29/05/2020 08:00

Congratulations everyone. You have turned D.C. who was a nobody into someone who is infamous. He will be able to write a book all about this and go down in history. If you all had shut up he would still be a nobody. And where is Kier Starmer for someone who said he would challenge the government when necessary he is remarkably quiet. He obviously agrees that this whole business has gone on too long and has become boring.

Roussette · 29/05/2020 08:09

You have turned D.C. who was a nobody into someone who is infamous
Give us some credit He was in my radar way before all of this. And what is quite joyous is the fact that for the rest of his life, memes about testing his eyes on a drive, will follow him around.

Keir Starmer is not quiet about it (much as you would wish so), here is what he tweeted yesterday. Enjoy!
"oris Johnson should have drawn a line under the Dominic Cummings saga but was too weak to act.

The public have sacrificed so much for the health of our nation - which he's now undermined.

And sent a message that there's one rule for them and another for the British people."

Roussette · 29/05/2020 08:21

And another one last night from Keir Starmer, in a tweet

"Take away line: if Johnson cannot function without Cummings, he is unfit to be prime minister."

With a link to this article...
www.spectator.co.uk/article/boris-johnson-isn-t-fit-to-lead

Oh dear. The Spectator where his wife works and has, I believe, a financial interest. That'll go down well!

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2020 08:22

Keir Stamer is a clever man. A formidable lawyer. I have no complete formed opinion on him yet because I've only seen what he's done the few weeks he's been head of labour. I'm watching. I'll judge his actions. Form my own opinions.

Just like I did with DC and BJ.

I just hope he does something that means I can form a better opinion if him than I have them!

Boris big mistake was not drawing a line himself. If he's drawn a line we could have moved on.

He had 3 weeks of the media asking for response before the story broke.
He didn't manage the situation.

His reaction has been poor. His pro action should have been strong and clear and with leadership.

What concerns me more now is that despite the voices of the nation being clear they have no respect for this - despite it being a democratic country and then working for us.

The biggest red flag for me about democracy in this country came from Matt Hancock.

We are asking you to comply as it's your civic duty. But we can very quickly make this mandatory if needs be.

For a country that polices by consent and has a strong democratic basis that's too much for me to just ignore.

This stopped being about DC when the government failed to act as it should. It's. ow about them as an institution.

StealthPolarBear · 29/05/2020 08:38

Yes I was thinking the briefings will be cut soon

Mumratheevergiving · 29/05/2020 08:41

I suspect matters will improve further as the witch-hunt fades into memory and people get out and enjoy the sun and the economy re-opens

That’s what Boris was counting on! But his actions now in refusing to engage with dissenting voices (including those within his party) and essentially muting the public are drawing closer attention not less. Onlookers from other countries must be agog!
The apology he owes is snowballing bigger by the day.

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2020 08:48

I saw that about DC going in six months too on the DM web site.

chomalungma · 29/05/2020 08:50

That’s after the entire media throwing everything they had at the Tories for a week - and they’d still win an election if one were held tomorrow

And that must be great fro you - except that there isn't going to be an election tomorrow.

And the support that the Conservatives have built up since the election has been reduced

And his popularity has slipped

And the people whose vote he needs in the red wall have thought he's not handled it well

So really - a lot of positive outcomes.

bobtrain · 29/05/2020 08:58

So Kier Starker tweeted on Twitter. How many people do not use Twitter or instagram or Facebook etc. A great majority. If he wants to get a message out he needs to remember that not everyone has access to a computer. The poor don't have access the elderly etc. It is also interesting that a lot of MPs who are against Boris are against leaving the EU yet that is exactly why Boris was voted in (and the fact that Corbyn was useless) I read an interesting piece this morning which states that a lot of the complainers 're D.C. are under 30 .

sleepingpup · 29/05/2020 09:03

Congratulations everyone. You have turned D.C. who was a nobody into someone who is infamous. He will be able to write a book all about this and go down in history. If you all had shut up he would still be a nobody.

You're joking aren't you Bob? 😂

Nothing to do with 'us'. Some threads on social media?😂

I think it's got more to do with an unprecedented press conference in No 10s Rose Garden,, headlines in every newspaper, Twitter going mad, interviews with cabinet members everywhere , Newsnight, cabinet member resignation, Tory Mps calling for DCs resignation.......

chomalungma · 29/05/2020 09:05

How many people do not use Twitter or instagram or Facebook etc. A great majority

And yet that was curiously successful in Brexit at getting messages across - I believe someone called Dominic Cummings was able to use social media in a very targeted way to spread key messages to certain target groups to get retweets, likes and sharing of particular messages.

So what's good for the goose and all that.

chomalungma · 29/05/2020 09:08

He will be able to write a book all about this and go down in histor

I think the book he will write will be linked to Brexit and his role in getting it done.

Or "short marketing slogans for dummies"

sleepingpup · 29/05/2020 09:10

So Kier Starker tweeted on Twitter. How many people do not use Twitter or instagram or Facebook etc.

You don't read the right newspapers bob. He's been in the Mirror.
