Wasn't an exceptional circumstance

tttigress · 27/05/2020 20:20

BBC admit to impartiality, does that mean Cummings is saved?

Alsohuman · 27/05/2020 20:23

John Crace is on fire tonight.

He even said he was forbidden from making any promises on dates for reaching government targets. Let that sink in. The prime minister is forbidden from making his own policy. If we had been in any doubt who was running the country we weren’t any more.

Boris didn’t even know the basics of how his own benefits system operated. This was Government 101 and the prime minister was still out of his depth. During the worst health crisis for a century we are lions led by dead donkeys.

The80sweregreat · 27/05/2020 20:24

People who work for the government ( and there are many) will probably need to download this app! I didn't think of it before but it makes sense that anyone in education will be made to have it at least ( or be sacked I suppose?)
I didn't think much about it but I can see many problems with it snd how the take up will be made to happen rather than be voluntary.

SmileyFaceSadFace · 27/05/2020 20:25

I'm chuckling at the idea of Cummings senior sat at home. Searching for the number of Bob. Ringing Bob. Asking Bob to contact the station and asking them to give him a call. Bob rings the station and speaks to Keith. Asks Keith to ask Roger to give Cummings senior a call. Keith contacts Roger. Riger rings Cummings senior.

Exactly! It's just more bullshit right?

My guess is Downing Street called ahead to let the local police know that DC was on route. The police called the farm landline the next day and old man Cummings answered the phone.

HeIenaDove · 27/05/2020 20:26

@NotABeliever Your MP has totally gaslighted you with that e mail

Could have done more to communicate the rules? It was in a fucking letter that went to every house.

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 20:26

I don't think 80's that they can insist people have it. And if I am forced as I work in education I'll just get a bog standard brick instead.

solieltoday · 27/05/2020 20:26

I don’t care about the Durham police,

Does anyone know if any marches or other events people can get involved in? I’m not on Twitter etc, so I wouldn’t know..

I’ve signed the petition, written and got an excellent, quick response from my MP (Sarah Olney, Richmond Park), but what now?

He won’t resign. BJ won’t sack him. They will continue to gaslight and sit it out. What can feasibly be done next?

solieltoday · 27/05/2020 20:29

I think I posted this earlier, but this is the response from Sarah Olney (Lib Dem)

to think Dominic Cummings should go/thread 4
itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 20:29

I guess all we can do is make it clear we won't be gaslighted. Continue to make it clear we don't trust in their public health messaging because we don't trust them.

They want this to go away. That will only happen if we let it.

Will they call them red zones like they did in Years and Years.

Perhaps we could call them "special care zones" like South Korea - just to follow through on Keir Starmer's idea that we should copy SK. When do we get identity cards? The South Korea app tracks credit card transactions as well.

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 20:30

The best bit about that reply is the sentence "priceless moral authority"

Completely sums it up.

My husband was a freemason, he resigned in good standing. He never sought favour, and would not approve of anyone doing so either.

I have known policemen who were freemasons to resign when lesser freemasons sought to use their standing as a freemason to avoid their just desserts.

Until there is a clear link with freemasonary, perhaps this clear corruption of an unelected but very powerful official, and his elected lapdog should not be muddied with supposition or speculation that any or all are freemasons? There's more than enough shit to stick to everyone as it is. . .

tobee · 27/05/2020 20:31

So who feels more and who feels less keen on downloading the track and trace app given the events of the last few days?

The80sweregreat · 27/05/2020 20:31

Shapps on Sunday said that Dominic's dad phoned the police over security issues.

Experimenopause · 27/05/2020 20:32

I will not touch that app with a barge poll.

mbosnz · 27/05/2020 20:34

I will not touch that app with a barge poll.

Ditto.

And do we think that the powers that be will be downloading it? Yeah. Nah.

The80sweregreat · 27/05/2020 20:36

I don't want anything to do with apps but as I work in a lowly position in a school I may need to! How else will the authorities get people on board? The government is a huge employer. It didn't occur to me before.
I'm not suggesting all Freemasons are dodgy , not at all , but it's well known that many higher up people in the police tend to join a lodge and there is a big network that do belong to it. What they do or whatever I've no idea!

solieltoday · 27/05/2020 20:36

Yes but they don’t care about public trust. It’s like someone on that panel asked BJ today - “Hsve you actually looked at your inbox lately?” Of course he has - he doesn’t care. He believes they are invincible - and the sad thing is, maybe they are.

43 MPs have spoken out, but that’s nothing to him. He’ll just keep repeating “reasonable people can make their own judgements.” This is his line, which is further gaslighting, because it positions both sides of the argument as “reasonable” - just pick a side; we’re all good; now let’s “move on.”

The80sweregreat · 27/05/2020 20:37

No, the people like DC etc won't download it. It'll be one type of app for us and nothing for them!

SophieB100 · 27/05/2020 20:38

@Alsohuman
Yes, Crace is on fire!

I can honestly say I wasn't bothered about the privacy issues with the app and thought helping out the country was far more important.

But a lot can change in a very few days

SophieB100 · 27/05/2020 20:39

I work in a school
I won't use the app.

There was a major backlash/purge on the masonic/police relationship, as I understand it.

What they do, as I know of it (and know quite a bit), is toddle around doing chants and rituals, raising money for widows and their children, as well as numerous other charities, and enjoying more sausage rolls and sandwiches than perhaps they should. And a shitload of whiskey.
