To hope this racist woman loses her job

twitter.com/melodyMcooper/status/1264965252866641920?s=19. Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting). All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

NotTerfNorCis I think we must have watched a different video. That hysteria in her voice? Frustrated rage. She felt the police weren't taking her made-up bollox seriously enough.
Plus why is she lynching her dog?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 27/05/2020 15:21

There's just no words.
You're unbelievable.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 27/05/2020 15:22

they were both privileged twats.

NotTerf if this was the UK you might very well be right, however this happened in a country where black people are shot and killed by the public and the police just for being black.

So it's not twat vs twat. She made that clear when she threatened him with "I'm telling the cops I'm being threatened by an African Anerican man". She knew exactly what she was doing. She made her intent clear.

thisenglishlife · 27/05/2020 15:24

Christian Cooper (the man in the story) has said he's unsure whether she should have been fired:

"Amy Cooper was terminated from her job as head of insurance investment solutions at Franklin Templeton on Tuesday, having been placed on administrative leave a day earlier. But Christian Cooper, who filmed her telling cops there's 'an African American man threatening my life', said it doesn't solve a wider issue of what's going on in New York and the United States as a whole. 'I'm not sure how I feel about that,' Christian told the New York Daily News on Tuesday. 'I can't see how that addresses the underlying issues. I think it's important to move beyond this instance and this one individual.*

Great guy! (He really is a dedicated bird watcher BTW, he appeared in documentary about it and is also in a bird watching organisation).

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 27/05/2020 15:27

Cross posted with glow - sadly I think she (?) is.
Absolute closed off - it's what you get with some of the extreme feminist posters on here - desperate to paint the woman as a victim whatever, it's utter, utter prejudice - in this case though it also involves racism and so won't see that in the rush to victim blame.
It's utterly fucked up.

ChocolatelyAsFuck · 27/05/2020 15:29

The fact certain posters are willing to create and believe in extreme hypotheticals in order to give a white person the benefit of the doubt, but will always assume some kind of secret malign intent or history to a black person, is strongly indicative of racist beliefs.

It’s the same in all threads about cases like this. Some posters will always just immediately go to, “Well maybe the black man is a criminal who was on his way home from beating up little old ladies for their pensions, and maybe the white person was on their way home from their 12 hour shift volunteering at a children’s hospice and just found out they had cancer and was STRESSED and UPSET.”

Racists will invent any hypothetical to attack black people and defend white people. It never occurs to them that the white person is equally likely to have a dodgy/criminal past, or that the black person is just as likely to be upset about something sad that had just happened. It’s disgusting.

tentative3 · 27/05/2020 15:29

...she KNEW he would get shot (which stretches credibility to be honest - the police did turn up and no one was shot)

@NotTerfNorCis of all the things you've said, this is the most shocking. It doesn't stretch credibility, have you missed all the deaths of black people in the US for the simple crime of doing everyday things while being black?

ChocolatelyAsFuck · 27/05/2020 15:31

Yes, Christian Cooper is highly respected and well-loved with the ornithology community.

(For all those speculating that he was up to something dodgy.)

VladmirsPoutine · 27/05/2020 15:32

But Christian Cooper felt perfectly entitled to treat this woman in that way.

This is exactly why I will always struggle to trust white women. Because they can so eloquently put the case for why they are innocent and a black man was of all things "entitled." I just worry for those that have to have you as managers/nurses etc. Just imagine if he'd been shot - some of you would be actually saying that he deserved it as he intimidated her. You are such a dangerous demographic it horrifies me - from women at work stealing my ideas and being condescending then when I call them out on it they call me 'aggressive' to those of you who actually enjoy making POC suffer.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2020 15:32

NotTerf As has been pointed out - he needed to film her for his own safety. A black man and a white woman with no witnesses - she could have accused him of anything.

Destroyedpeople · 27/05/2020 15:32

Some people should do some reading up on American history instead of trying to make the woman out to be a victim. She is no victim.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 27/05/2020 15:33

No one was shot - because when she leashed the dog he said thank you and the filming stopped there!
According to reports, when they got there they'd gone so it resolved itself.
How, how can you say it's stretching credibility?
I'm feeling a bit nauseous at your posts so goodness knows what black people must feel like reading them Sad

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2020 15:35

NotTerf and another black man has just been murdered in the USA by a police officer over a counterfeit bill. So maybe stop being ignorant and recognise what a huge problem this is.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/05/2020 15:39

I think he was very much entitled to ask her/tell her to put her dog on a lead as per the rules. I wish more people would call out people breaking rules when that rule breaking has a negative impact on others.

The fact he’s some sort of bigwig in the American version of the rspb gives him even more right to do so.

DotForShort · 27/05/2020 15:40

She was obviously desperate to get away from him.

What complete nonsense. She was the one who charged up to him and he asked her to keep her distance.

I'm glad she lost her job, but Mr. Cooper is completely correct to say that firing her alone doesn't address the wider societal issues.

As an aside, and in connection with some of the discussion above regarding slavery and genealogy, it is interesting that the two individuals happen to have the same last name. It's entirely coincidental, though it could mean that they potentially share family history. A rather pointed illustration of the racial dynamics of the US, with this incident as a microcosm of the long troubled history of slavery and its aftermath.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 27/05/2020 15:50

@NotTerfNorCis

You are both utterly ridiculous and revolting at the same time. You know full well that she wasn't scared, she's faking it and not even very well. I believe your sole purpose on this thread is to cause as much trouble and be as offensive as you can. What a sad creature.

Mr Cooper is the victim of this evil psychopath and so is her dog (look up her other abuse of the dog) She had every intention of ruining, very possibly ending,Mr Coopers life and it's very good to see that actually she's only succeeded in ruining her own life.

Those making excuses for Amy Cooper, you're just as bad as she is.

AvranaKernsBestSpider · 27/05/2020 15:51

NotTerf so desperate to get away from him that she charged up to him with her dog lead raised in the air?

QueenOfPain · 27/05/2020 15:51

She’s a cunt and deserves everything she gets.

She knew what she was doing and what the consequences for him might be when she rang the police and used those words.

Ratasha · 27/05/2020 16:01

I actually had to go back and watch the video following some of the gaslighting over the last two pages.

I think the unavoidable conclusion is that anyone Amy Cooper, or 'both sides'ing, is an unabashed racist.

Ratasha · 27/05/2020 16:01

Anyone defending* Amy Cooper.

buildingbridge · 27/05/2020 16:04

NotTerf I think you need to go to sleep, wake up, wash your face with water and rewatch the video again. You are either incredibly naive or just plain uneducated.

SionnachRua · 27/05/2020 16:06

You are either incredibly naive or just plain uneducated.

I'll add acting in bad faith or competing in the Oppression Olympics to that little list.

UmmH · 27/05/2020 16:15

@NotTerfNorCis

How are you still defending her when even she herself has admitted she was wrong? Confused

UmmH · 27/05/2020 16:18

@DotForShort

Gosh, I never noticed that. Ironic, huh Sad

Myohmy111 · 27/05/2020 16:38

You know full well that she wasn't scared,

I completely disagree. It’s my firm view that those posters insisting that Amy Cooper was afraid are so conditioned into subscribing to the deeply ingrained stereotype of the aggressive black male that they truly cannot perceive him as anything otherwise.
