To hope this racist woman loses her job

twitter.com/melodyMcooper/status/1264965252866641920?s=19. Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting). All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

to be clear MorrisZapp I don't mean you are doing it.

Myohmy111 · 26/05/2020 21:59

That even the most genuine of white allies could still in one small moment switch because she just knows she has the power to. It's a lot to get to grips with.
That is an astute point to make. So true Never thought of that.

Does that mean then that a white woman with the best of intentions can never be truly trusted as an ally?

LipsyGirl · 26/05/2020 22:02

This thread has made me incredibly sad to think because of the colour of my skin people will just assume I’m racist. No matter what I do or say, I’m just another racist white person

NoToMisogyny · 26/05/2020 22:05

White men spitting ‘Karen’ all over twitter makes me sick. Where’s the male equivalent?

Amy was racist and very wrong. But the blood lust needs to stop now. She’s apologised, she’s lost her job and her life is ruined. What more do people want- suicide?? Men who murder kids don’t receive this level of hatred.

GeorgianaD · 26/05/2020 22:07

Appalling. And gives you a flavour of what life is like as a black person. Sadly it’s not a bit surprising.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 26/05/2020 22:09

Where’s the male equivalent?

Chad,Kyle and Greg I think.

Not a Karen usage defender, but they do exist.

LipsyGirl · 26/05/2020 22:09

@georgianaD are you talking to me?

LipsyGirl · 26/05/2020 22:10

Because if you are, it isn’t acceptable to make other people feel how others have felt who have done nothing wrong.

NoToMisogyny · 26/05/2020 22:11

They don’t exist. I have never seen anyone say ‘ok Chad’. It’s misogyny, plain and simple. White women demonised while white men (who are the oppressors of said white women as well as everyone else) laugh their fucking socks off.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 26/05/2020 22:11

Sorry not Greg. It's Steve. Scumbag Steve.

Stripesgalore · 26/05/2020 22:13

‘Amy was racist and very wrong. But the blood lust needs to stop now. She’s apologised, she’s lost her job and her life is ruined. What more do people want- suicide?? Men who murder kids don’t receive this level of hatred.’

Social shaming generally continues until a new, more exciting wrongdoer comes along. Then everyone will forget about Amy Cooper. She will get another job when it is forgotten about, just as Justine Sacco got another decent job.

And Amy’s white dominated former workplace will almost certainly be employing another white person right now to do Amy’s old job, and life will continue pretty much as it did before.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 22:13

Does that mean then that a white woman with the best of intentions can never be truly trusted as an ally?

No, it means that there's still some of us out there who cannot abide racism.
To come out with racist views, you have to on some level hold them in the first place.
It doesn't just magically spout out on being threatened.
If you thought there was a man threatening you, you'd maybe ring the police saying there was a man threatening you.
It wouldn't even enter your head to say something like "I'm going to ring the police and say a black man is threatening me."
You'd just ring them and say a man was threatening you.
I was saying it's an uncomfortable fact to have face and easier to just ignore like some posters seem to be doing that you hold that power.
It's sick.
Reading about Emmett Till this afternoon - why would you fabricate lies?
This case is no better.
We shouldn''t be able to do that, and it's a bloody good job we have camera phones or whatnot now.
It can't go hidden as much.

memememoi · 26/05/2020 22:16

@LipsyGirl you said; I’ll be very frank about this, I’m a white woman with mixed race children. I am in no way racist, I never will be.

I'm not even going to get into this with you if you cannot see what you have done by making such a statement. Then there's the "tears" in your response 🙄 I really don't care how hurt you are by what i have said, and i stand by it.

For context my father is white. I grew up hearing that very statement from not only him but his side of the family who are pretty much openly racist. I've had to pull him up many many many times for saying this exact statement.

annamie · 26/05/2020 22:17

@LipsyGirl

@memememoi excuse me? I’m saying since I’ve been with my DH and having children I able to see the ugly truth. What you have just said is incredibly hurtful

I think @memenemoi was referring to @Honeybee85 not you.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 22:18

White men spitting ‘Karen’ all over twitter makes me sick. Where’s the male equivalent?

What's with the whataboutery?
Why not focus on the issue

annamie · 26/05/2020 22:18

Cross post

memememoi · 26/05/2020 22:18

Like clockwork....

NoToMisogyny · 26/05/2020 22:18

This is much worse than social shaming, it’s a sickening pile on. Something that I don’t remember happening to any man. As if there aren’t racist white men.

Why shouldn’t she get another job? Is she supposed to be jobless and homeless for life? Is no one ever allowed to be sorry and repent and learn?

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/05/2020 22:19

Yes Morris there is some spectacular sexism, hypocrisy and even racism on this thread, although the perpetrators are so high on their own virtue signalling they won't see it.

Seriously? Even racism? This thread is dripping with racism and its fucking sickening.Angry

LipsyGirl · 26/05/2020 22:19

@annamie I think she was referring to my post. But thank you

memememoi · 26/05/2020 22:20

My comment is for ANYONE who has used their mixed children/niece/nephew/neighbour as if it's an exemption... you're showing yourselves up even as we speak...

LipsyGirl · 26/05/2020 22:20

Some very nasty personalities on this thread. I think it needs to go...

memememoi · 26/05/2020 22:21

@LipsyGirl there's a lesson in this, trust me. It's fine, my dad did the exact same thing you're doing now.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/05/2020 22:21

Some very nasty personalities on this thread. I think it needs to go..

True, but it also serves a purpose to see how utterly insidious it is, and might make people think about attitudes a bit more

annamie · 26/05/2020 22:22

@memememoi

I think you’re being harsh on @LipsyGirl . Of course she wants to protect her mixed race children. I can’t see what’s wrong about her post below.

@VladmirsPoutine I’ll be very frank about this, I’m a white woman with mixed race children. I am in no way racist, I never will be. However since being with DH & my babies, it’s crazy how I feel I have to protect them that bit more. People are racists & they don’t even know it! That scares me! A good friend of mine referred to my baby as a darkie!!!!! Safe to say she’s not a friend anymore!.
