To hope this racist woman loses her job

twitter.com/melodyMcooper/status/1264965252866641920?s=19. Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting). All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

We would all hate for video of us at our worst to be posted online. If it were just video of her ranting and raving and acting like an idiot I would feel some sympathy for her embarrassment at that being shared with the world. We’ve all acted like dickheads at some point in our lives. This woman didn’t do that though. She tried to use (completely understandable) fear of the police as a weapon.

Chaotica · 26/05/2020 11:53

What Boulshired said. It's terrifying and there seems to be hardly any judicial oversight. Only by publicising this behaviour will it be made to stop.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 26/05/2020 11:54

No-one could be in any doubt after watching that video about her motives. She Absolutely 100% tried to intimidate him using the fear of being shot by the police. She knew exactly which words to use to get the response she wanted. she aggressively approached him, very confrontational- absolutely no fear in her at all. He backed away and asked her not to approach him and you could see the lightbulb going off in her head realising she was on film So she turned it round and instant waterworks screeching on the phone as if she was being approached. The man never moved. I’m so glad he filmed that.

boredtotears11 · 26/05/2020 11:55

OMG I’ve just watched that video. What an absolute racist cow, and how dare she treat that dog like that. Disgusting bitch.

GabsAlot · 26/05/2020 11:55

maybe he shouldnt have enticed the dog over-its trivial but the way she says im goig to tell the police an african american is threatneing me is chilling

glad the dog isnt with her anymore

Thisseatisnotavailable · 26/05/2020 11:56

She knows those are the kinds of words that lead to African American men being shot by the police. She wants him to be frightened of the power she wields over him because of her white privilege. She is weaponising white woman’s tears to scare and subdue him, when he wasn’t threatening her, was asking her not to approach him, and was speaking in a calm and polite way.

This

All those people saying "neither side are saints" are displaying exactly the kind of mindset (racism at worst, total obliviousness at best) that led trump to say there were bad people on both sides of those Charlottesville murders.

There is only one person in the wrong here and it's the woman who broke the rules and then made racially-aggravated threats.

And this

And all the faux ‘why was he filming it, he just aggravated the situation’, is total bs. It’s plainly obvious why he was filming it, to defend his position. If he wasn’t filming who knows what other accusations she would have made on the phone to ensure police turned up fast and with guns drawn. And yes of course I’m speculating there, but it must be very scary still to be a black person in America these days.

Glowcat · 26/05/2020 11:56

Jesus. I can’t see how anyone can be defending her behaviour. She marches towards him, he asks her to back off and she steps closer and puts her hand up to him. She is throttling the poor dog. She threatens to call the police and say that ‘an African-American man is threatening my life’ and then does so. Still throttling the dog.

matchboxtwentyunwell · 26/05/2020 11:56

He did not escalate it by filming her. She told him she would call the police and tell them an African American man was threatening her. She knew that could mean serious harm or death to him. She knew. And she didn't care. She only cared that he had asked her to put a leash on her dog, as required in the bird sanctuary area, and she didn't want to because the dog runs were closed and she wanted her dog to run.

she has of course now apologised, claims she isn't racist, but she's only upset because she's completely fucked up her own life with her shitty behaviour. She did actually tell the police what she said she would ... that an African American man was threatening her ... when he wasn't ... so I have no sympathy for her at all. I hope the job loss is permanent.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 26/05/2020 11:57

and she sounds quite scared.

😂😂😂

Only when she realised he wasn’t going to do as he was told and put the phone away! She walked towards him. He backed away. She wasn’t scared at all. That was all performance.

matchboxtwentyunwell · 26/05/2020 11:57

And it's not difficult to know what happened; she's even admitted his version. Too little too late.

SickOfLockdown · 26/05/2020 11:58

Good for him for filming it, god knows what else she’d of claimed he’d done if he didn’t film it. By the time the police had got there, she’d probably have attacked herself, took all her clothes off and said attempted rape. Maybe I’m cynical though. But these things do happen & you have to watch your back

ginghamstarfish · 26/05/2020 11:58

I read the 'before' bit - he said he asked her politely to leash the dog, she refused, was argumentative, when she refused again he warned her that he was going to offer her dog treats (surely a responsible owner would not want that). As someone who fucking HATES loose dogs in public areas I can see his point. All she had to do was obey the rules of that area - but she refused. Then she threatened to call the cops and he started filming - wisely in my opinion.

MitziK · 26/05/2020 11:59

'Her side of the story' is that a black man told her that she was breaking the rules. So she decided to show him who is boss.

When I first saw the video, I thought that her approach with the lead in her hand and the dog in midair was to whip him across the face with it. But then I think she realised that she would be filmed committing an assault. The cold 'I'm going to get the police to kill you' was sickening - and then the fake 'I'm so scared, help me' bollocks was calculated to get him shot and his mobile footage to hopefully be lost by the police.

She was, in her temper at being told she couldn't do exactly as she pleased, deliberately trying to at best make him fear for his life - but was, in my opinion, actually trying to kill him by proxy.

I can't see how she could remain in her current employment. Nobody is safe around her - nobody BAME, nobody male, nobody at all - because when she doesn't get her own way, she doesn't just ignore them, her reaction is to literally destroy them through a bit of acting/tears. I wouldn't want to work with her. If I were her PA, I'd refuse to work with her. If I were her colleague, I'd refuse to work with her. If I were the boss of a client company, I'd refuse to work with the entire firm until she was removed.

She's not just racist. She's malignant and literally murderous.

flirtygirl · 26/05/2020 11:59

Lots of racism on this thread. Mumsnet is crap like this. Really sad.

Thank you to all the posters who have pointed this out.

LemmysAceCard · 26/05/2020 12:00

She knew exactly what she was doing, she was calculating and put on a scared voice when she rang the police. Before that she was the agressor.

SickOfLockdown · 26/05/2020 12:01

Also, she’s clearly racist. The threat of calling the police to report “an African American man” clearly is a threat to him, due to recent events Hmm

ginghamstarfish · 26/05/2020 12:03

yes, her voice changed when reporting the 'crime'. Hopefully her company's lawyers and HR are sorting out how to legally get her out before she tarnishes their reputation any further. I do hope this is more widely aired in the media as an example to others like her.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 26/05/2020 12:06

The threat of calling the police to report “an African American man” clearly is a threat to him, due to recent events

Or the entire history of police treatment of black people in America?

Redcrayons · 26/05/2020 12:06

and she sounds quite scared

If someone was in the park threatening you and scaring you, you would stand there arguing with them? Really? She’s not scared of him. She’s threatening him.

matchboxtwentyunwell · 26/05/2020 12:06

This is a better link than the twitter 'snapshot' ... she's racist as fuck and was absolutely happy to try to get the police there with false tears.

InglouriousBasterd · 26/05/2020 12:08

She’s fucking appalling both to the man she’s threatening and the dog she’s choking. I can’t see how she can be defended.

Hingeandbracket · 26/05/2020 12:09

All those people saying they wouldn't like being filmed - do you ever go to any town or city, or into shops? Because you're being filmed most of the time if you do.

Is the objection to being filmed a blanket thing, or as in the case of the woman, because she's clearly in the wrong?

TheFallenMadonna · 26/05/2020 12:09

Being "provoked" into being racist is still being racist.

BlackKite · 26/05/2020 12:11

Being filmed is pretty unpleasant though, as a blanket thing, when it is directed at a person (rather than more general CCTV surveillance)

TooSadToSay · 26/05/2020 12:11

Wow what a scary, racist woman. She's clearly acting on the phone! WTF. Hope she loses her job and all her mates.
