To hope this racist woman loses her job

twitter.com/melodyMcooper/status/1264965252866641920?s=19. Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting). All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

I didn't see the whole video originally. So my comments about her seeming scared were about the section before she called the police.

fuckinghellthisshit · 26/05/2020 12:45

If I was a black man in the US I would wear a camera and film everyone, all the time. As a black woman in the UK I have a dash cam and record interactions with officials. You have no fucking idea how much racism people experience if you are white.

I can't believe people are more bothered by the racism than the poor dog being strangled.
.....
I'm appalled by both and imagine so are most people; however this is a message forum and many people will deal with one issue at a time, don't read too much into that.

Greensidepark · 26/05/2020 12:46

Really if he had not filmed her, who do you think the police would have believed when the responded to her distress call. The fragile white woman or the black man?

If you are twisting and twisting yourselves to find a reason to justify her behaviour, you either don’t understand the context or maybe you are something else.

ILoveYou3000 · 26/05/2020 12:46

*I don't think it was racist - she was being threatened by an african american man. Filming someone is very intimidating and threatening and he just so happened to be african american. Maybe the reference to his race was unnecessary but I don't think it was done with racist intent.

The fact she did not have her dog on a leash and was mistreating it is more concerning than the alleged racism.*

I actually have no words in response to this, other than I'm disgusted.

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 12:47

Didn't he say to her just before the video starts "Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it."

Are you asking us or do you know or are you making this up? This isn’t in the video. Source?

madcatladyforever · 26/05/2020 12:49

How is the man filming it in the wrong - she doesn't have to go nuts and start shouting abuse and strangling the dog.
If that was me I'd have leashed the dog, shut up and walked away ff's.
People need to sort out their anger problems.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 26/05/2020 12:49

She is racist. His colour has nothing to do with it.

But I would be panicked thinking what poison is in his treats -'The line, you do what you want then and I'll do what you want' -looking further into this -the dog has suffered a great deal of injuries since she adopted it 2 years ago. All my dog was attacked..........-was it attacked as it was yappy and off the leash.

twilightcanine · 26/05/2020 12:49

Thanks @Lynda07 but that's not my quote. I was quoting another poster.

dontdisturbmenow · 26/05/2020 12:50

, but cannot think it was worse than trying to have another person shot - which is what I think many people believe she was trying to do
BELIEVE being the key word. With an assumption that the police shoots anyone when they receive a call from a woman supposedly threatened with no weapon. Over dramatic.

The dog being mistreated and strangled is sadly very real though.

twilightcanine · 26/05/2020 12:51

But I would be panicked thinking what poison is in his treats

Me too. Which is why I'd put it on a lead and walk away. Not strangle it Smile

Schoenes · 26/05/2020 12:52

She was not being threatened for crying out loud.

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 12:53

Why tell him that she is going to tell the police ‘an African American’ is threatening her? He knows he’s African American! Grin

It’s pure intimidation. She’s a bloody Mayella.

Schoenes · 26/05/2020 12:55

the dog has suffered a great deal of injuries since she adopted it 2 years ago. All my dog was attacked..........-was it attacked as it was yappy and off the leash. She probably mistreated it herself, Munchhausen by dog. Well good that it is in the US news, hope she will lose her job. Vile racist and narc.

QuantumEntanglement · 26/05/2020 12:55

I can't believe people are more bothered by the racism than the poor dog being strangled.

Maybe because they realize that this particularly nasty and insidious manifestation of racism - calling the cops on a ‘threatening African American’ - could have resulted in the death-by-cop of an actual human?

Dozer · 26/05/2020 12:56

What she did was awful, and seems probable that her employer will, rightly, sack her, for bringing the company into disrepute.

SimonJT · 26/05/2020 12:57

As a brown person you have to film anything that can be twisted as we are not believed by the police.

I say this as a brown person who was found guilty of a crime despite cctv evidence showing I had infact done nothing wrong and it was the white ‘victim’ who was in fact the criminal. The police also only interviewed two out of seven witness, there were two white witnesses and four brown witnesses.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 26/05/2020 12:57

The fact she did not have her dog on a leash and was mistreating it is more concerning than the alleged racism.

How so, considering the possible outcomes?

Myohmy111 · 26/05/2020 12:57

Maybe the reference to his race was unnecessary but I don't think it was done with racist intent.

Unbelievable. With respect, either you are seriously lacking in critical thinking, or you have no insight into racism. Actually, probably both.

I can't believe people are more bothered by the racism than the poor dog being strangled.

The OP was about racism and not about animal cruelty. I can only assume that you are privileged enough to not care a toss about racism.

I have to accept that I exist within a bubble of people of all races who recognise, and have insight into the prevalence and devastating impact of racism. Some of the posts within this thread have truly shocked me.

MrsOfBebbanburg · 26/05/2020 12:57

looking further into this -the dog has suffered a great deal of injuries since she adopted it 2 years ago.

In the link above it said she only adopted it a few days ago.

If we ignore everything in the video and consider what was happening before the film started she was already an arse. She had her dog unleashed running round a bird sanctuary that had clear signs to leash dogs= arse. She refused to leash dog her dog in same sanctuary when asked by a member of the public= arse! This woman is clearly an arsehole from start to finish. Being a racist is an additional element to her delightful personality. I bet her colleagues have loads of stories about how hateful she is to work with.

FTMF30 · 26/05/2020 12:58

@JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown No matter what happened before or after filming, she was caught on camera weaponising her white privilege.

Would you think it was problematic if a woman was sexually assaulted but someone filmed it, meaning the perpetrator was brought to justice?

Victim blaming is not cool. She knew that call could have got him killed.

Schoenes · 26/05/2020 13:00

A despicable racist. On a more positive note an inspiring idea with the treats. I will use that myself in future for cnuts who do not keep their dogs on a leash.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/05/2020 13:00

Apparently this came as a shock to some people. Women like her are our neighbours, colleagues, teachers, midwives. I've long held the belief that white women are actually most dangerous demographic. I'm not shocked that on Mumsnet some people are bending themselves out of shape to explain how the black man was somehow in the wrong. White privilege is a hell of a drug. I cannot begin to imagine how many tragedies befell black people before smart phone technology.

BiggestJulie · 26/05/2020 13:01

@zscaler has had it exactly right from the beginning.

DeeCeeCherry · 26/05/2020 13:02

Its terrible but she had leashed her dog so he shouldn't have continued to film her. She will lose her job, these things only ever end one way

Yes he should have continued to film her. She rang the police complete with faux panicky choking voice, kept repeating 'Hes an African American man'. White women's tears 'game'.

The culture in America means this man could have been arrested at best, killed at worst. Because that is often what happens to black men at the hands of the police. She knows it and wanted him to come to serious harm.

Not to mention she was nearly choking her poor dog. Yes she's been placed on 'leave' at work. & No longer has the dog. Good.

She deserves all she gets.
