Was appalled to see this video on Twitter - a guy in Central park, NYC, who was birdwatching, politely asked a woman to put her dog on the lead as per the regulation in that part of the park. He started filming it as she got abusive and called the cops, to say that she (white) and her dog were being threatened by an African-American man and could they send the police (as we know this can often result in a shooting).All the while she was holding her dog up by dangling it from its collar, half strangling it. The man left and his sister put the video on Twitter, resulting in the racist dog strangler being identified very quickly... she has a high powered job with an insurance company. The animal shelter took back the dog, and her company says she is on 'administrative leave' hopefully meaning she will get fired. I was really shocked and dismayed that such open racism is still going on, even though she was being filmed! Surely she must lose her job at least, what company would want to be linked to something like this?

I wasn’t inferring any racist meaning I was stating that you’re using emotive language to paint events in a particular light. Skulking might also be called ‘nosing around’, ‘looking at’, ‘wandering about’. Skulking implies nefarious intent, as we’re being legal and all. ‘Made off’ could be replaced by ‘left’ as in ‘he nosed about for a few minutes and then left.’ See how different that feels? ‘Intercepted’ could be replaced by ‘confronted’ as in her was confronted by two armed men.’ Isn’t language wonderful.

Umm that's not exactly true, that's what's been spun. Additional cctv evidence was released which showed Arbery sculling g round private building yard presumably with intent to steal. He made off on foot and was intercepted by two men. He physically fought with one and ended up shot in the struggle.

I’m a brown man, on my walk to work (well, before lockdown) I have to pass a building site, I often walk through it as it’s open and no dangerous. So if two men with guns approach me for daring to be brown and on my two feet I have to just stand there and wait to be shot while two very aggressive men scream at me and wave loaded guns in my face? I assume if two men chased you, caught you and waved guns in your face you would also stand there in silence.

Agree that there are a lot of racists on this thread.

As for Ahmaud Arbery, the security camera at the house under construction shows that a number of people entered the site and looked around. And yet, the only person who was chased and murdered for this alleged action was a young black man. Coincidence? Er, no.

Even if we stop using the term Karen. The notion of white women white-womening will forever exist. Gosh! Some media-trained personnel on here who can easily absolve white people of their actions. I see the black man has active statements against him while the gun just "ended up shooting him". The white man was passive here - he didn't shoot the gun? The black man just "ended up being shot"...by a bird?
