@Sittingonthedockofthebay

Totally agree - criminal and putting people's lives at risk. Its a line in the sand for me too. I have become too accepting of the bullshit peddling. After a while it becomes so everyday and beige you begin to hardly notice, or to scoff any more. This is just so blatant, it is in a league of its own. People have had enough, they expect better.

I would say this of a government of any hue. It is not unreasonable to set some standards or to expect people in these senior positions (his wage packet presumably paid by us as he is an advisor to govt?) to act with integrity. This is often unmet of course, but we should nonetheless demand it and call them to account.

Otherwise the rot spreads and spreads.

Even if its just owning up and saying, OK it was wrong of me, not wise and not fair and I'm sorry. But just for him and Boris to brazen it out?

No.

Common decency required.

DebHagland · 27/05/2020 20:36

Will social services be investigating why he decided to drive his child around in a car when he "apparently" was so concerned about his eyesight and his safety to drive. Surely if that was the case, he was putting his child life at risk. He has publicly admitted to reckless child endangerment!

JudyCoolibar · 27/05/2020 20:36

It has very little to do with this incident. The journalists have been after him ever since the successful leave campaign, it is just another chance to try to get their claws into him.

It certainly precedes that: it goes back to his days in the Department for Education and, in particular, his personal contribution to them having to pay out £25K for workplace bullying. And rightly so. It' 100% legitimate journalism to keep an eye on why on earth the government is so desperate to keep employing someone like this.

derxa · 27/05/2020 20:37

But it's not defence for the appalling behaviour of BJ and DC. No but I think everyone should calm down. BJ is not fit and should go taking old Dom with him. We need to focus on strategy. How do we get to where we want to be?

sleepingpup · 27/05/2020 20:41

. No but I think everyone should calm down. BJ is not fit and should go taking old Dom with him. We need to focus on strategy. How do we get to where we want to be?

Well Dream on if you think anyone will go anywhere UNLESS THERE IS A MEDIA FRENZY.

JudyCoolibar · 27/05/2020 20:41

It was interesting that Johnson kept going on and on about "exceptional circumstances" in relation to Cummings. Because he has no personal experience of parenting, he's clearly accepted whatever bullshit Cummings fed him about how exceptional it was, completely uncritically. Yet his circumstances were no different from those of thousands of parents all over the country who didn't find it necessary to go on long car journeys at any point.

icansmellburningleaves · 27/05/2020 20:47

@SoupDragon the title was a give away!

lilgreen · 27/05/2020 20:50

Don’t vote Tory ever again!

derxa · 27/05/2020 20:53

Well Dream on if you think anyone will go anywhere UNLESS THERE IS A MEDIA FRENZY. Carry on then. I'll focus on my family and my sheep.
I've had enough of frenzy and hysteria.

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 21:07

Good post derxa I guess we get there by not allowing this to be swept aside as they want.

That's the media but most importantly the British population.

We get to choose who leads this country and if we aren't happy and do t trust our leaders we have to get our voices heard.

That's an advantage if living in a democracy.

Kentonian12 · 27/05/2020 21:08

Well this whole issue has been typical of how the government has handled this situation from day one bungled. Really I feel sorry for those that have followed the instructions around lockdown and to have things like this happen does not instil trust does it

FliesandPies · 27/05/2020 21:12

Because he has no personal experience of parenting, he's clearly accepted whatever bullshit Cummings fed him about how exceptional it was

I don't think I believe that actually. Johnson knows it's lies, that's why he got in a tangle about the 'evidence' when Yvette Cooper questioned him

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 21:14

Of course Jonson knows it's bullshit.

His opening statements at the committee liason were all about how much he appreciates being invited blah blah.

He's meant to be running the country.

He isn't a lucky invitee to the party 🤦‍♀️

Leicester5 · 27/05/2020 21:20

It doesn't help that the story is so muddled and both he and his wife appear to have lied, neither were tested etc. Reports of Abba dancing.

I've written to local MP but haven't read his response yet.

It's shocking though if the family feels threatened at home, that's not on at all. Apparently the neighbours were nasty before the trip even started? I don't understand why they didn't call the police. Nasty about what?

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 27/05/2020 21:28

Hmmm the neighbours were nasty to him, the press are being nasty to him. The electorate are not understanding quite how exceptional his circumstances were.

Most of us know someone like this. Arrogant and always more important than everybody else. When finally someone stands up to them, it's the other people being mean to them.

My heart bleeds

HarrietM87 · 27/05/2020 21:33

Shocked at how many posters seem to be questioning the right of the press to report on this. This story has actually broadly united the press in this country which is rare, and demonstrates why it is in the public interest to pursue this story.

Dropping it is not going to hold the government to account. And while yes, we live in a democracy, this man is unelected and so accountable to no one but Boris. The fact that he has this level of power in those circumstances is shocking and disgusting. And we won’t get another chance to vote Boris out for years. So yes, while the public still care about this (which surveys report that they overwhelmingly do), the media should continue to report on it.

That’s not to say they should hound or threaten the man but there’s a lot of ground between that and not reporting on the story at all, which is what pps are jumping to.

kimlo · 27/05/2020 21:38

@Leicester5 he's saying people were being nasty about things he had said about covid, which was the quote from him about herd immunity beong what was good for the ecconnomy and something along the lines of "and of some old people need to die, then so what?"

Exactly why having them there was different because he was unwell, or how they were there right at the hight of lockdown, or why he didn't ring the poloce is unclear. Obvipusly the only answer was to drive to durham, because you know exceptional circumstances

He now claims that he was warning about corona viruses for along time, and editied some blog posts tp proove it.

Leicester5 · 27/05/2020 21:42

@kimlo ah ok thanks, I'd almost forgotten that with the recent kerfuffle. That was denied as well wasn't it.

kimlo · 27/05/2020 21:46

it was denied, but liars be liars that cover their arse.

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 21:50

The good thing is this will Peter out over a week.

Then peirs Morgan will return to GMB. That man honestly drives me nuts with his own sense of importance - but he's definitely the man for the job here.

FliesandPies · 27/05/2020 22:32

The fat brass neck of Bozo to say he won't give the 'evidence' on Cummings to the cabinet office to publish because he doesn't want to bother them while they're so busy.

Like he cares how busy people are, lazy bastard! Unbelievable, all of it, the whole shit-show, just staggering and unbelievable.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 27/05/2020 22:33

He was a gibbering fool. Bozo has been too

itsgettingweird · 27/05/2020 22:34

Quite flies

The80sweregreat · 27/05/2020 22:36

My MP still hasn't replied to me!
I've sent two.

FliesandPies · 27/05/2020 22:42

Who's that 80s - was it you who has Braverman for your MP?
