Popular music has been terrible for about 20 years. 90s was the last good decade of music.

dudsville · 25/05/2020 21:16

Yes! Yeah! (Also, what age are you?)

MadameMarie · 25/05/2020 21:17

I used to love music from that era. I’d say from 2006 though because Ne-Yo brought out some great songs that year.
I was in my late teens/early 20s and they were all my favourites. I found my old iPod mini recently and it’s crammed full of these Grin

supadupapupascupa · 25/05/2020 21:19

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:21

OP, at 47, are you having a laugh?

funinthesun19 · 25/05/2020 21:30

funinthesun19 - believe it or not I never even possessed an ipod - in 2006 I was still looking for cassettes to play!!

Haha! I’m sure HMV were still selling them at that point.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:33

Charley50 - No? Happiest years with hindsight of my life, thus the music from the Golden Era of 2008-2012 is very memorable to me!!

OP posts:
StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:37

funinthesun - I also seem to remember that in January 2010 Iyaz had his ipod stuck on REPLAY!!

Sean Kingston's Fire Burning kept me warm in the summer of 2009

Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire

Ha, I'm a similar age to you OP. For me 2008 to 2012 era is defined musically by The Wheels on The Bus.

I was wrangling with a houseful of toddlers throughout those years Grin

Take me back to the 90s...

funinthesun19 · 25/05/2020 21:39

Yep I used to love all of those too. My eldest ds was born in early 2011 so a lot of those artists/songs remind me of that time.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:40

Haha - love it Wild Cherry Blossom!! Wheels on The Bus Grin

90s didn't do anything for me musically!

OP posts:
Charley50 · 25/05/2020 21:41

StirlingWork - fair enough, whatever rocks your boat, but you've lived through the brilliant 80s for pop, soul and hip hop, the birth of house music, and Brit pop.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:41

Was anyone tempted by Jeremih's offer of 'Birthday Sex' in the summer of 2009? Grin

OP posts:
Charley50 · 25/05/2020 21:42

Anyway I know what you mean OP. I'm just stuck in a different era than you are. Grin

funinthesun19 · 25/05/2020 21:44

The summer of 2009 had some great songs! “When Love Takes Over” by David Guetta ft Kelly Rowland was one of them.
Black Eyed Peas brought out “I Gotta Feeling” that summer too.
And I loved early Jason DeRulo. Same year again!

panicstationsready · 25/05/2020 21:47

What? Are you mad? 70s all the way. Why is Slade's Merry Christmas played on a loop every year?

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:48

Charley50 - I DO love the 80s, to be fair, some great songs especially up to about '86.
I like some hip hop - remember the brilliant track 'Ghetto Heaven' by Family Stand?
As far as Brit pop's concerned my attitude is 'we are not amused!!'
I'm not familiar enough with the precise definition of house music to know what would be classed as a housemusic track!! Although I've probably heard it - Wasn't Steve Silk Hurley's 'Jack your Body' an early house music track?

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:50

funinthesun19 - I remember 'When Love Takes Over' - but tbh I wasn't that sold on it - I'm off to google exactly when in 2009 it came out.
