90s didn't do anything for me musically

It did for me but I was a kid and I was all for the pop music. Spice Girls, Steps, S-Club 7, Britney Spears, Five.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:51

panicstationsready - don't get me wrong - I love me a bit of 70s. I love me a bit of Slade - bought their greatest hits album in 1999 on CD!!

funinthesun - I love Britney Spears - but especially in the years 2008-2012 when life was a Circus! - with a division between those who like to perform and those who like to observe!

92% think YABU Grin

DollyDoneMore · 25/05/2020 21:54

Wow. Thought you were going to say you were 25.

You have terrible taste.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 21:55

funinthesun - unlike me the 92% probably don't keep trying to re-live that magical time! Grin

sqirrelfriends · 25/05/2020 22:00

All personal taste, I like a bit of pop but love the "real" music of the 70's, 80's and 90's.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 22:02

sqirrelfriends - like 70s and 80s - not so sold on 90s

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 22:04

Towards the end of December 2008, I really could have 'Used Somebody' in the same vein that Kings of Leon suggested

Me and my Heart also had Issues in January 2009 ( I don't know to hate you or kiss you) - a feeling that was apparently echoed by the Saturdays!

sqirrelfriends · 25/05/2020 22:06

90's was an excellent time for rock and alternative.
NIN
Pearl jam
No Doubt
Foo fighters
Blink 182
Blur
Smashing pumpkins
Radiohead
Korn
Garbage

Good times

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 22:09

No Doubt - I liked their number one song - but no other artist/s in that list really appeals to me sqirrelfriends

I'm with @attackedbycritters who has excellent music taste!

MuthaClucker · 25/05/2020 22:11

Oh my lord, I was going to say YANBU, thinking we all have our own 'golden time' but you're two years older than me!
Did you really not find the music you love until you were 36?!

Apologies of course, if you are a Quaker. Or Amish.

JWrecks · 25/05/2020 22:12

IMO decent music disappeared before 2008!

EngagedAgain · 25/05/2020 22:13

For me the disco, motown and soul era is my favourite. I hit it at just the right age. I also like quite a variety of music and pop, so peppered amongst others over the years are some gems, but nothing for at least ten years. Also like some 60's music.

Sparklingbrook · 25/05/2020 22:15

Nooo. the 80s were the best. Teenage years, nightclubbing.

I think Ellie Goulding is fabulous though (unpopular opinion) and I liked Lily Allen too.

StirlingWork · 25/05/2020 22:15

MuthaClucker - no I discovered music in the 70s, actually but 2008 - 2012 - represents for me a phoenix rising from the ashes of emotional disaster which culminated in a lovely unexpected surprise in the Spring of 2010.
Or to use the RAF motto translated from Latin
'From hardship to the stars'

Thinking about it, I could really 'Use a Wish Right Now'

Hold me Close, (I'm Trying to Dance Here) - these are the misheard lyrics of the Elton John song.

Loved the cover version of this that came out in the spring of 2009

I remember watching/listening to a programme that discussed that, for the majority of people, the musical era they most identify with is the one they experienced as a teenager.

So the theory goes, we experience most of our “firsts” during these years so our brains make stronger emotional connections to things that remind us of those times - like music.

Certainly applies to me - mid-90s Britpop all the way!

Mammyloveswine · 25/05/2020 22:22

Erm.... yabu

WildCherryBlossom · 25/05/2020 22:23

To add to squirrel friend's salute to the 90s

Nirvana
REM
Pulp
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Skunk Anansie
Suede

Mammyloveswine · 25/05/2020 22:24

"Some goof ones from our Cheryl" Jesus she's tone deaf!!!

MitziK · 25/05/2020 22:27

Your musical choices are the soundtrack of nightmares for me.

Just as well there's other music around and there's no laws to prevent people liking different types.

And it's just as well you don't live next door...

MuthaClucker · 25/05/2020 22:28

Hey OP, I was surprised that's all. I apologise. We love what we love. The heart wants what the heart wants etc

I do like a lot of the music you mentioned, especially Gaga, Pink and Derulo.

Also, I will admit, one of my favourite songs of all time is Cartoon Heroes by Aqua. So no judgement here Grin
