Anyone watch the car crash interview today?. What an absolute load of bollocks, no apology lots of inning and ahhing. Cummings is an odious little man too full of his own self importance. Must have a lot of dirt on the government I think as anyone else would have been sacked. Had to go to Durham incase they both got sick, his wife was unwell - can't he look after a 4 year old? He had to drive to a beauty spot half an hour away from Durham to see if he was ok to drive?? Doesn't his wife drive? Lost all respect for the government, not that I had much to start with.

He was humble?! He refused to apologise and he still insists he did nothing wrong.

Serin · 25/05/2020 20:52

I think he came across pretty well

Seriously?
It reminded me of when the 3 bishops left Fr Ted's house. One In a coffin, One renouncing religion completely and heading off to India in a campervan and one with the Holy stone of Clonricket stuck up his arse.
And Ted says "Well I think that went rather well" Grin

Freddiefox · 25/05/2020 20:54

Well If our govt isn’t worried why should I worry.

Because they will elbow you out the way to the get the medical treatment they need.
They won’t queue, they will just step over you 😔

ZaraW · 25/05/2020 20:55

I'm looking forward to reading The Guardian tomorrow.

Bathroom12345 · 25/05/2020 21:00

The Guardian. That well known balanced newspaper!!!Cannot wait for the spin they put on this. They were awful during the last election, scrabbling around for just anything.

treenu · 25/05/2020 21:01

They are treating us all like we're stupid. I can't believe people don't care or aren't angry.

Pinkblueberry · 25/05/2020 21:08

The drive to check his eyesight thing was utter bollocks.

It all just doesn’t add up.
Driving across the country for childcare ‘just incase’ you feel too sick to take care of them is not normal - even when there’s no lockdown.
Getting in a car to check your eyesight isn’t normal either - you can either see well or you can’t Confused

Sounds like they just wanted to visit family in County Durham, came up with a stupid story to cover them and happily this story has got them into even more shit because its just plain fucking stupid.
We all want to see family... obviously we can sympathise with that, although that’s not a good excuse by all means.
We don’t all dump our kids with relatives 200 miles at the first sign of possibility being unwell - most parents simply continue to parent, even when feeling unwell. If they thought everyone was going to empathise with that notion they’re in LaLa land and clearly have no concept of the life normal parents lead.

There are two other people linked with advising about, & making, the CV regulations who have not followed the rules themselves & had to resign because of it.

Is this another case of DC deciding that it's one rule for them & another for him?

His circumstances, as he explains them, were not exceptional or serious enough for him to choose to ignore the very clear instruction to STAY AT HOME.

PerkingFaintly · 25/05/2020 21:19

He was caught off guard when asked if he'd investigated closer childcare/help before setting off.

Yep. He admitted he hadn't even looked for it.

Said it didn't occur to him, because he had these nieces in County Durham. Hmm

Nope, doesn't seem to have even crossed his mind to look for ways to keep as closely as possible to the rules, eg have a niece NOT SUFFERING COVID SYMPTOMS (they are 17 and 20) travel to him.

Somerville · 25/05/2020 21:19

yes he broke lockdown like so many others, but can we move on now.

No. We won't be moving on from this.

I didn't break lockdown even though it would have been better for my children if I had. Even though I'd have liked an outing somewhere nice on my birthday, like his wife got.

And I don't know anyone who broke quarantine, moved to a second home, or imported infection to a hospital at the other end of the country like his wife and kid did.

He's shown himself up as the elitist hypocrite that he is. And he's shown up Johnson - we now know how weak he is, that he can't survive without Cummings. And public scrutiny is on Cummings like never before - as it should be, since we pay him.

There is still a police investigation to come.

They arrived just before his mother's birthday. Left just after his wife's birthday. Were witnessed celebrating both (dancing to Abba at a party on mother's birthday; walking in Barnard Castle on wife's birthday.) They may have been ill for a few days in the middle of the trip, but they certainly made the most of those birthdays...

PerkingFaintly · 25/05/2020 21:26

Oh, and he kept going on about how "complex" the situation was: that he had a child – a child! – and both parents might possibly end up ill.

Seriously, Dom, if you're finding it too complex to come up with a plan for something parents up and down the country have had cope with, then you're not exactly the genius you believe yourself to be.

AlwaysAnEmptySpace · 25/05/2020 21:30

I think people are just angry that they didn’t do the same when they could have in similar circumstances, being as the guidance said things about exceptional circumstances and children. If we’d have been ill, I’d have used common sense and gone to family if necessary. I find it difficult to get my head around parents being ill and thinking ‘no, I must stay home and feel utterly desperate and possibly leave my child with no one capable of looking after them.’

The trip out to test his eyes doesn’t make any sense though.

Experimenopause · 25/05/2020 21:30

I am so sick of having to listen to this tripe every single day. What have we got ourselves into? If this lot is so brazenly and blatantly getting away with what is so obvious for al of us to see, what else are they getting away with behind the scene? I really wish we could get rid of these liars.

pinkpinecone · 25/05/2020 21:32

I can't stand him and find him odious, but unfortunately I think he did a good enough job of defending himself. His reasons sounded plausible enough regardless of whether they were true or not. DC may still be there but the Johnson government certainly looks weaker as a result.

justasking111 · 25/05/2020 21:32

His son is autistic so he worked within the rules.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 21:33

Agreed, they used lockdown as an opportunity for a holiday. The only other charitable explanation I can give is that when he thought his wife had Covid-19, he latched into the next available females, his nieces.

Experimenopause · 25/05/2020 21:33

What does that even mean??? Confused
You mean that he can lie about something so serious and try and fob the rest of us but it’s still ok so long as he looks good at lying? Is that what you are trying to say?

BoingBoingyBoing · 25/05/2020 21:34

He was clearly lying out of his fucking arse.

Sadly though the general public are stupid enough to fall for it time and again.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 21:34

His son is autistic so he worked within the rules.

There is nothing in the media saying his son has autism. That was made up tweet by a random that was deleted.

Experimenopause · 25/05/2020 21:35

justasking111
No he bloody didn’t! He drove the length of the country to spread the infection on the pretext of not having childcare which is a downright lie.
Tory bits are out in force tonight.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 25/05/2020 21:35

I'm so fed up with the bloody thread police.

Get off the thread if you don't like it.

The list of subjects we can no longer post about without getting a snarky reply or a biscuit is getting longer....

Teachers
Coronavirus
School work
Schools returning
Meghan Markle
Dominic Cummings

Anything else?

YANBU OP. He's an embarrassment.

DrManhattan · 25/05/2020 21:36

Cannot believe anyone can defend him.

Stilllookingfor · 25/05/2020 21:38

Agree OP. Lots and lots of dirt, on the government and very good quality dirt it must be. Plus DM thinks, of course, he is above the law. What a lethal combination. He must have told Boris, if I go down you coming with me! I wonder if Boris really followed the rules too? Just a matter of time if he didn't and he is also covering himself by endorsing DM.

AlwaysAnEmptySpace · 25/05/2020 21:38

I haven’t seen anything about him celebrating, other than ‘someone seen him’, surely they’d be a photo or something if this was true. And he has said he didn’t walk around at BC didn’t he. He’d be stupid if he lied now as I’m sure he’ll be found out if he has. Maybe he’s lied a lot but maybe as usual the press just want to stir up hate for someone because it sells.

I’m not a Tory or a DC fan at all but it does seem like they’re just out to get him now.
