Dominic Cummings

Anyone watch the car crash interview today?. What an absolute load of bollocks, no apology lots of inning and ahhing. Cummings is an odious little man too full of his own self importance. Must have a lot of dirt on the government I think as anyone else would have been sacked. Had to go to Durham incase they both got sick, his wife was unwell - can't he look after a 4 year old? He had to drive to a beauty spot half an hour away from Durham to see if he was ok to drive?? Doesn't his wife drive? Lost all respect for the government, not that I had much to start with.

But the thing is, the guidelines did allow for people to use their own judgement so he can just say he used his judgement and be within the guidelines.

Most of it is law, not guidelines. And nowhere does it say for individuals to use our judgement.

The little creep is a disgrace, as are the army of people online demanding we dont talk about it.

TheGreatWave · 25/05/2020 22:01

Ok so it seems that I am not a reasonable parent as I did not drive 200 miles to my parents when ill so they could look after my children.

But I consider myself a reasonable daughter as I did not drive 200 miles to my parents when ill so I did not potentially take the virus to them.

Not difficult is it.

AlwaysAnEmptySpace · 25/05/2020 22:04

Not having childcare/fear of both parents being too ill to look after children is in no way an exceptional circumstance for this pandemic. It's a standard, every day circumstance for all parents.

What someone thinks is exceptional circumstances, another person won’t.

Anyway, as I said I’m am not a Tory and definitely not here to defend one. I just think the guidelines allow him to defend the decisions that he’s taken based on the account he’s given. If he was partying and sightseeing, which are not in his account of events, then obviously he can’t hide behind the guidelines and he should resign.

EinsteinaGogo · 25/05/2020 22:05

What do you think about his wife deliberately falsifying her article, @AlwaysAnEmptySpace ?

It should definitely be discussed. And if he’s got nothing to hide then what’s the problem discussing it.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 22:06

Underlying all this is they implied they were in London. They knew they did wrong.

AnxiousAnnie13 · 25/05/2020 22:08

being as the guidance said things about exceptional circumstances and children

Having one slightly ill but feeling better parent and one parent potentially exposed to coronavirus but currently feeling well is not an “exceptional” circumstance in a pandemic. It’s pretty unexceptional

tabulahrasa · 25/05/2020 22:11

Thing is...

Finding childcare in London, with multiple relatives nearby was so complex for him that the only thing he could think of to do was drive to Durham...

When he’s unsure if he can see well enough to drive he decides to put his wife and child in the car with him for some death defying potentially blind drive...

But he gets to decide what information the prime minister of the country gets many times a day?

I mean, his judgement and decision making skills don’t seem the best, is that something he should get to decide?

user1471565182 · 25/05/2020 22:11

I often wonder if people who support Cummings and Johnson realise the level of corruption, or if they just dont care?

Its like the surrealism of seeing Trump going on about 'draining the swamp' whilst hes the most corrupt human being alive.

AlwaysAnEmptySpace · 25/05/2020 22:12

What do you think about his wife deliberately falsifying her article,

She’s a politicians wife, it’s no surprise that shes good at avoiding certain topics without actually lying. She’s married to a politician and they are, after all, the masters of this.

I’m really not trying to defend DC, my political views really don’t match his. I just think that the rules allow him to just about justify his actions, if his account today was true.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 22:12

I’m tempted to drop The Spectator an email asking is they condone Wakefield’s behaviour

thunderthighsohwoe · 25/05/2020 22:13

Surely there is no way he drove 300 miles without the four year old needing the toilet? Even the eight year olds I teach couldn’t last over four hours without needing to go. Neither could I tbh.

EinsteinaGogo · 25/05/2020 22:15

You should do, @SharonasCorona - it would be good if journalists were made to stand accountable for their integrity.

AlwaysAnEmptySpace · 25/05/2020 22:15

To many people yes. But he’s managed to spin it that because of this and because of that, he used his judgement, and instincts according to Boris, and it can all be explained away. Just about.

RubyViolet · 25/05/2020 22:22

He thinks he’s totally above us all. I feel so powerless this evening, l feel quite overwhelmed, this feels like an abuse of power. 😢

TimeWastingButFun · 25/05/2020 22:24

I would love to have seen Starmer ask him some probing questions. He would have made him very uncomfortable indeed!

TimeWastingButFun · 25/05/2020 22:26

The thing that I just cannot understand is how he said he didn't mention it to his boss. Now if your boss happens to be the PM and you happen to be their chief advisor at a time of national crisis, would you not be expected to be just minutes away at all times, unless pre arranged??

Toooldforthisshit49 · 25/05/2020 22:29

@Ratasha @TheHighestSardine really sorry if my thread pissed you both off but hadn't been on MN today so hadn't seen any other threads. Just made my blood boil watching the little creep try to defend his actions.

That’s sad that you feel like that. Flowers Have you been feeling overwhelmed before today?

I do think some politicians believe they’re above us. The nature of their jobs means they need a big ego. I just try to live my life responsibly and make decisions that are right for my family.

I hope you’re ok.

Duchessofealing · 25/05/2020 22:30

To be fair, we regularly (pre lockdown) used to drive 300 plus miles at night to visit family for the weekend without stopping - put children in the car at bedtime and they fall asleep for the journey - no need to stop on most journeys. We’ve done this since they were tiny.
Seems he didn’t interact with anyone and whilst he did travel he didn’t break social distancing. I also know several civil servants who fucked off out of London when lockdown was announced to live with family. It’s not just him. I’m not saying it’s right or fair, or that I agree with him, just that the travel without stopping could easily be true.

Alsohuman · 25/05/2020 22:51

But he gets to decide what information the prime minister of the country gets many times a day?

This is the thing that absolutely terrifies me. Think about it for a moment - an unelected career psychopath (description courtesy of David Cameron) is deciding what information the alleged most powerful man in the country has access to. It frightens the shit out of me. It’s why he’s got to go.

pinkpinecone · 25/05/2020 22:57

@Alsohuman I agree. Both DC and BJ are deeply dishonest and devious. Unfortunately I don't think DC is going though. Although I hope I'm wrong.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 22:58

BJ said he had a lot of plate when Dom told him was going to Durham so can’t remember exactly. Surely when you have a lot on your plate you really need your chief advisor and if he isn’t there, you want to know where he is in case you need him?

Even in my humble role my boss knows where I am when I’m on annual leave and will call and text me.

SharonasCorona · 25/05/2020 23:00

The other funny thing is when a reporter (was it Beth Rigby?) asked Dom if Boris is incapable without Dom, Dom didn’t respond. What a damning defence of his boss. Boris should sack him for that alone.
