Ok he has done free 30 min sessions 5 days a week but an OBE? Really? His profit has rocketed, he has so much publicity it’s hardly selfless with all the relentless ‘press the like button’

Yabu, all his profits for this yare donated to the NHS plus sales of. T-shirts. He has worked through broken bones. To do this every day and has inspired brits to get moving, he is well dererving imo

YeahWhatevver · 24/05/2020 07:19

If shuffling round the garden gets you a knighthood.....

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/05/2020 07:25

Very well deserved. He promised to be there for the children every day and he has. Bank holiday, School holidays, he has been there 9am. He has been a constant.

I can only assume the negative posters don’t have children. To have a primary school child during this pandemic is hard. Their lives have changed so much. The teachers they know from school have fallen off the radar.

Up pops Joe Wicks, and he’s there for them. Has a hospital stay for a infection and he’s back, bouncing along. He even delayed going to hospital on the Friday til he’d done his workout. He made a promise and he’s keeping it. I haven’t seen any one else in this keep a promise to the children.

Give him all the awards. He deserves it.

I can only assume the negative posters don't have children.

Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups. We without children are not all entirely devoid of empathy, humanity and common sense. I have saying he should be officially recognised in some way for weeks, and gasp I don't have children!

geekone · 24/05/2020 09:46

@namechangetheworld was that so wrong though? He has a business and saw a way to increase brand awareness and possibly sales. That is how you build a business and a brand, that’s his livelihood.

I think he was shocked at how much and immediately then donated the profits from the PE with Joe to the NHS charities.

ineedaholidaynow · 24/05/2020 09:56

Thing is if it had been any old Joe would it have been so popular, would schools have been recommending it? I bet he didn’t think it would catch on as much as it did. I think he does deserve some recognition.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/05/2020 10:15

@HesterShaw1 sorry spag error, should have been a comma not a full stop. Makes more sense that way.

BacklashStarts · 24/05/2020 10:42

He absolutely deserves it. He took on a big task while injured for the greater good and is seeing it through while donating the profits. Most OBEs are just for doing your job and this seems beyond that.

The long term impact of lockdown on the nations health is going to be felt for a long time especially in our health - physical and mental. He saw that early on and decided to do something which will have mitigated that for some people.

Spudina · 24/05/2020 10:52

My husband is exercising for the first time in years which I’m really loving health wise, has lost his belly and looking smoking. Give the man an OBE. Seriously, what he has done for children during lockdown is impressive. I agree about the Major Tom,Knighthood comment. I can’t see how that’s more worthy.

LaurieMarlow · 24/05/2020 11:00

Exactly. He was straight off the bat with it. The format worked really well. And the sheer numbers of people he reached was very impressive.

@ EarlLeighIndamornin bit rudeGrin Have finished work now and am reading through

The whole system needs overhauling. There are so many ordinary people doing everyday extraordinary things that won’t get recognised and some famous people (Katherine the singer) get it for doing either their job or for self promotion.

Serin · 24/05/2020 13:54

Good for him!
Am really pleased for him.

TheStoic · 24/05/2020 14:05

Good on him. I hope he also makes a squillion dollars. He’s a positive in the world right now.

Seems a very English thing to do to bring him down a peg or two.

Myshinynewname · 24/05/2020 14:08

Sorry I don't have time to read the whole thread but he has more than earned it in this house. My kids have done it every day without exception. They don't always find exercise easy but his enthusiasm has encouraged them to keep going and now we can see them getting stronger.
I have been (very) ill with covid. The dc kept going when they were isolating at home and couldn't do any other exercise. It gave them half an hour a day of not worrying about me.
It would have been very easy for him to stop when he injured himself, particularly when his wife had to step in to demo the exercises, but he didn't.
I thought he donated the profits from the PE With Joe views to an NHS charity? If he becomes more well known by doing a good job and profits from that longer term why is that a problem? Judging by his houses I think he was doing fine before he started PE with Joe!

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 24/05/2020 19:19

He is the reason I started working out. Read about him doing PE. Found some online videos. My dh and I started on his 15 min fat burner. It physically burns😂
I can tun out stairs for the first time in years without needing a break to catch my breath.

From what I hear, I am not the only one.

Give him a fucking throne. He is helping me to dodge an early heart attack! I don't know why it was him who caught me into the workout, but it was.

vanillandhoney · 24/05/2020 19:32

Good for him.

So much unnecessary unpleasantness on this thread.

ZaraW · 24/05/2020 19:39

He's great. I know people who never exercise who have been converted by Joe Wickes and look forward to their next session with him. It's kept children entertained and his contribution to NHS charities. I really hope he gets an OBE.

CiderWithRosy · 24/05/2020 22:01

I think Joe is fantastic. He is a great role model and fully deserves an OBE for everything he has put in over the past few weeks. I really hope he gets it.

gerbo · 25/05/2020 09:30

I agree, he deserves it. I'm no gym bunny (!) - I'm a lazy by nature 43 year old mum of two -but he has kept me going each day of lockdown and I feel so much better for it.

Even if I really don't feel like it, doing his workout in my kitchen has become routine and each time sets me up for the day brilliantly. His positivity is infectious.

He's not everyone's cup of tea but be definitely deserves recognition.
