Are some of the most ignorant people on the planet???!!!

I have just been torn a new bum hole on FB, for adding some perspective to a very angry post on FB. FB post went something like this:

"300+ more fucking dead today. When will these fucking idiots learn that they havd to stay in fucking doors? I had a go at atleast 10 people in Tescos today (she didn't explain why) The longer they are stupid the longer this will go on..... Etc... Etc"

Lots of people went on: "I agree hun" "OMG so totally with you etc"

I went on and screenshotted Prof Sikoras tweet about week on week reductions and to say there is light at the end of the tunnel, chin up etc.

Well.......!!!!! The abuse!!!!!!!!

I'm dancing on people's graves... How can you be excited? I bet you are one of the c*nts going out and seeing family? (I have ONCE at my Nan's funeral) I am disgusting human being. How can I be happy that only 300 odd have died....you get the picture.

Am I wrong to find perspective/relief/optimism that the numbers are going down, or should I be wallowing and consigned to months and months of doom for the foreseeable??

Getting things into perspective - yes.
But decrying everyone who criticizes the Lockdown ignorers- no.

Too many people ARE ignoring the lockdown, meaning the rest of us who are doing our best to follow the rules will suffer in the long run. For those of us who are vulnerable, it is actually a matter of life or death. So please have some empathy for us being a little sensitive about this.

PafLeChien · 22/05/2020 13:55

Aridane
thanks for clarifying, i was trying to figure out it the irony in it Grin

lljkk · 22/05/2020 14:29

mother Jones, dated 19 May.

the question is... will Sweden stay about fifth... or will it move up or down the league table, what will happen to Spain, UK & France -- Spain had very very strict lockdown and yet they led the per capita league table. Spain's numbers would look even worse if the statistic were per capita of people age 70+. Why should Sweden follow Spain's example? Sweden is betting they will move well down this league table by end of 2020.

To think that the ones screaming for people to stick to lock down...
Lynda07 · 22/05/2020 14:32

Stop being so cross and accept that people will have different opinions. It hardly affects you what someone else thinks.

These posts and threads make me grateful I am on my own, self isolating and have little to do with anyone unless at a distance.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 22/05/2020 14:58

those very very essential keeeey workers who are still going to work every day. You're right I'll stop going in. Fuck all the residents in the care home we'll just let them die shall we just so we don't go to work for out unimportant jobs. And fwiw I've never challenged anyone breaking lockdown rules let alone screamed at them. But I never argue with idiots so won't argue with people thinkig the rules only apply to others.

Bertoldbrecht · 22/05/2020 15:02

Fwiw I hate the term ‘dementors’ and how the anti dementors are going out and ‘murdering’ people/ grannies/children. At a time when 36,000 people have died it just sounds a bit flippant. I don’t agree with all the drama that’s going on on social media- I’ve seen it on our work WhatsApp group- but some respect is required and I’m surprised MN hq hasn’t asked them to show a bit of decorum.

Russellbrandshair · 22/05/2020 15:05

I’m surprised MN hq hasn’t asked them to show a bit of decorum

I’m surprised MNHQ hasn’t asked the dementors to stop telling people they are murderers for simply sitting on a park bench. That’s the entire reason the dementor threads came about - rudeness and labelling of people as “evil” who have done absolutely nothing wrong!

Bertoldbrecht · 22/05/2020 15:45

Sorry but bandying around terms like murdering or killing people is wrong from both sides. If you'd had a close relative die of covid you might see it differently.

Russellbrandshair · 22/05/2020 15:58

Sorry but bandying around terms like murdering or killing people is wrong from both sides

So why are you not lecturing those calling others murderers then?! And those who are calling others “selfish” and responding “do you WANT people to die?” for daring to express that they’re finding lockdown hard for their mental health?

Bertoldbrecht · 22/05/2020 16:19

I actually said melodrama from both sides. The ones saying OMG if they don’t relax lockdown my kids lives will be destroyed and those who accuse others of having a death wish against pensioners because they’ve stepped outside. It’s all unnecessary.

Russellbrandshair · 22/05/2020 16:36

Yes and I am asking since you say it’s both sides, have you called out those who are exhibiting “dementor behaviour” calling others murderers since you say both are wrong- have you?

Bertoldbrecht · 22/05/2020 16:41

It is both sides. But calling somebody demented actually is pretty nasty too. Think you need to go back to your anti dementors thread and regale them with your edgy tales of ‘breaking the rules’ or whatever.

HavenDilemma · 22/05/2020 16:43

I have been hanged up on for (politely) daring to have a different opinion to the masses on a FB group a few times and I know how it feels, OP. It really gets you doesn't it??

I've learnt never to engage in any online debate unless lighthearted. Especially on Facebook.

I've also noticed this bizarre new competitive trend of presuming the longest length of time that the lockdown will go on for (mostly on fb but I've seen it a fair bit on MN too)

"I don't think kids will be back until September"

"I don't think it'll be until January"

"Well I don't think it'll be until January 2022"

"I don't think they'll EVER go back" HmmHmmHmm

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/05/2020 17:15

I know how you feel OP. I got accused of "pissing on your (my) mum's grave" when I agreed with a FB friend regarding the easing of lock down. I was literally told that I should not want lock down to end until a vaccine is ready, like that's going to help my mum now.

MintyMabel · 22/05/2020 18:24

@Nicolasix I will, thanks.

My BIL's mental health suffered so much because of lockdown, he attempted suicide. So, yeah, I'm not going to have someone who has essentially gone about life as before, going to work every day, tell me that him staying indoors doing lock down "properly" was the right thing to do for the benefit of the nation.

MintyMabel · 22/05/2020 18:25

I've never challenged anyone breaking lockdown rules let alone screamed at them

In which case, I wasn't talking about you so no need to get pissy.

MintyMabel · 22/05/2020 18:35

The independent is wrong Belgium has suffered terribly. Sweden 384 per m. Belgium 793 per m.

Actually, they aren't wrong. Belgium has always recorded deaths differently. They include pretty much any death that could be related to Covid so their numbers are more accurate.

Jux · 22/05/2020 18:42

Well, dh just went to do the shop for the next 4 days (can't store more food) to find shelves stripped of milk, bread, salads, sausage rolls, quiches etc. He said something about it to the checkout woman who said yes it'd been unusually busy with holiday makers today. He could see that anyway, RVs, caravans, cars with boats/dinghys strapped to the roof etc etc.

I hadn't realised that lockdown had been eased to this extent. I thought people weren't supposed to be doing this. I know that there are NO LIFEGUARDS and we've already had a few sets of people who've got into trouble in hte sea over the last few days, costing a fortune to rescue them.

Our police have been turning obvious holiday makers back when they see them.

Every bit of fine weather has brought out holiday makers, second home owners, who then buy all the milk and bread.

We've been quite lucky vis a vis CV in this region, and our NHS isn't geared up to deal with this many extra people. OUr shops aren't geared up for this many extra people (they're OK with influxes of tourists usually, but this year they haven't been because of LOCKDOWN).

Is it really OK to go off camping/RVing/caravanning etc now? They didn't say stay at home at the daily briefing this time so I'm not sure.

(I am pissed off about the milk though; I'm having to use dried in my tea aaaaaaargh fate worse than death (but not worse than longlife)!)

Jux · 22/05/2020 18:43

Sorry wrong thread

Whattodowhattodooo · 22/05/2020 19:20

@jaxhog

I do have empathy. As previously mentioned my nanny was vunerable. She has died because of Covid.

I refuse to be called out for "celebrating people dying" for showing that numbers are declining. How is that showing a lack of empathy or sensitivity. You can be worried and anxious about the virus, but seriously? Its still bloody awful granted, but we ARE on the way down.

OP posts:
Nicolasix · 22/05/2020 19:20

@MintyMabel

I am very sorry to hear about your BIL, that is truly awful. I hope he & your family are getting support.

But it is highly offensive to say that anybody working in a health & social care setting is going about their lives normally. Along with the psychological impact, wearing PPE is uncomfortable & draining, restricts the care they provide & many are isolating or l have moved out from family to protect them. So far from normal.

I’m also not shouting or even rolling my eyes at people. But I responded to your comment about key workers because it was so repellent. They are not the problem here.

Jaxhog · 22/05/2020 19:55

@Whattodowhattodooo

Thanks for the empathy. And the numbers coming down is clearly a good thing. But while lockdown may be coming to an end for most people, the vulnerable will still be in lockdown for a long while yet. My biggest concern is that in the celebrations of freedom for the many, we will be forgotten, as people will stop 'social' distancing or taking precautions. If only 60% of people follow the rules now, how many do you think will follow them after the lockdown?

So please, people who are calling for others to follow the rules are not idiots. Those who don't understand the purpose of the rules or who flout them are ignorant. And selfish

Covid isn't going away, it is just becoming less threatening to the majority. Which is great. But never forget that the rules are there for reason. Remember vulnerable people WILL die if you don't.

Aridane · 22/05/2020 20:47

Cannot believe how polarised views are here. People I know in RL are just muddling along (broadly) following the rules

Aridane · 22/05/2020 20:48

Every bit of fine weather has brought out holiday makers, second home owners, who then buy all the milk and bread.

I’m sorry, @Jux - but the comment on the holiday makers buying all the milk and bread actually made me chuckle. I don’t know why

Pleasenodont · 22/05/2020 20:51

I mean, they are right. The death toll isn’t reducing at all, there’s still 300+ dying a day and the infection rate isn’t reducing either. Obviously people aren’t adhering to social distancing rules and I know they aren’t, I’ve witnessed it myself near where I live. People have stopped bothering to stay 2M apart in supermarkets for example and did you see the images on Wednesday of people flocking to the beaches? Grim.
