@Cantfindafreeusername but going to a supermarket for food is clearly more essential than going to the beach for a jolly...

Francina670 · 22/05/2020 20:52

*@Glitterbug76
Are you going to stand in there and clean the loos then ?? *

No, because it’s not my job. Do you think there shouldn’t be public toilets at all because it’s unacceptable to expect anyone to clean them?

Downton57 · 22/05/2020 21:03

@Francina670 During a pandemic, cleaning toilets is far more dangerous than during normal times. It's not a question of not having public toilets at all, but about how we should all behaving responsibly and fairly during a pandemic.

Luddite26 · 22/05/2020 21:25

To be fair there aren't that many public toilets in coastal areas and human excrement is becoming a problem especially where there are walks like the Cleveland way. Most people use toilets in supermarkets or cafes pubs etc when visiting the seaside these days.
To be fair if the government say it's ok to travel for exercise the council's should open the toilets. I do not intend going because I don't want to offend locals and will wait till the time is right to return.

ROSCO80 · 22/05/2020 21:25

@Insideout99
Ours have opened 3 sets of toilets across one at each of our main beaches. Unfortunately this is no god for the smaller overcrowded beaches in the area.

SallyB392 · 22/05/2020 21:33

No loos open here so they are using the beaches or for some privacy private gardens! And people wonder at us pleading with people to not come at the moment!
It's not just the loo situation though they have been emptying the few shops open in the area.

LynetteScavo · 22/05/2020 21:52

I'm surprised by the obsession with loos on MN. I'm perfectly capable of going for a day out without having to wee. And I definitely wouldn't need a poo!!! If I had any other issues which might require a loo I'd just stay at home lockdown or not. The only toilets I've ever been on near a beach have been scary anyway, with those weird soap/wash/dry machines.

I have no plans to go anywhere this weekend. I live at least 3 hours from the coast anyway. From what I've read on MN recently, regarding the attitudes of people who live near beaches and the hideous types of people who visit beaches I'm not sure I ever want to go to the coast again. Oh, hang on MN isn't RL.

Batshitmeansbatshit · 22/05/2020 22:05

Pragmatic response to it all

to wonder where all the beach revellers are toileting?
aliceinsunderland44 · 22/05/2020 22:55

@LynetteScavo so if you had a bowel or bladder disorder you'd never go anywhere ever? Weird.

Also youll never visit the coast again because of selfish idiots who are temporarily ruining these public spaces that we shouldn't even be going to?

What an odd post.

mumoid · 22/05/2020 22:59

I was born and bred by the beach and still have a house there although now live in the city. I absolutely loathe people who litter in general but particularly on beaches. Have always peed in the sea but would never poo on the beach, just is utterly vile. Equally vile are the vitriolic crass insults on MN directed at people who are generally visiting beaches. Seems that the fact some people have abused the beach has been gleefully seized by those who are generally of the unlocals keep out brigade as justification. The giveaway is the nasty tone and abusive language. If I tarred everyone with the same brush in that way I’d be avoiding every coastal town indefinitely from here on. We should be trying to find solutions to the problem and surely opening public loos is an obvious one? Everyone on here agrees that human excrement on the beach is unacceptable, is there really any need to virtuously bang on and on resorting to insult upon crass insult?

Scruffyoak · 22/05/2020 23:00

We are a short walk away. We just go before we leave and if anyone needs a wee we come home...unless its the toddler...

ITonyah · 22/05/2020 23:01

Batshitmeansbatshit love that!

Tachograph · 22/05/2020 23:10

I’ve never understood this belief that people have some kind of authority over a piece of land by living close to it. The only land you’re in charge of is the property you own.

Barney60 · 22/05/2020 23:12

Picture in Lincoln paper yesterday / today showing a long queue waititng to use public beach toilets, so from that I assume some are open.

Godotsarrived · 22/05/2020 23:21

Lulworth estate has both the carpark and the toilets open at Durdle Door this week. There were queues for sure but no one pooing on the beach.

LynetteScavo · 22/05/2020 23:23

@alice if you think I'm weird for saying I don't want to use grim toilets, then yes I'm weird.

And reread what I actually posted re visiting the coast.
I'm not sure I ever want to go to the coast again. Oh, hang on MN isn't RL.

I didn't say I would never go to the cost again. Hmm

My point was, from what I'm reading on MN at the moment there is an awful lot of bad feeling by residents in certain areas to visitors, and will be for some time. And people are using regularly the beach as the toilet. It's hardly a Tourist Board advertisement.

Alsohuman · 22/05/2020 23:24

And people are using regularly the beach as the toilet

Because. The. Toilets. Are. Closed.

Time2change2 · 22/05/2020 23:28

I went to the beach. 50 mins each way. Stayed 6 hours. Kids did a wee in the sea. I held it all day and made sure i didn’t drink any coffee. Had a wee when I got back home. Simples!

Theukisgreatt · 22/05/2020 23:30

Bloody hell, I'd need to go after the drive without even drinking anyway Blush

aliceinsunderland44 · 23/05/2020 00:02

@LynetteScavo that's not what you said at all. But ok.

I also wouldn't go to the seaside now either

Toomuchtrouble4me · 23/05/2020 00:45

Francina670 Thu 21-May-20 08:05:50
They need to open toilets immediately. It’s verging on discriminatory. Many women have bladder weakness after pregnancy and it’s a real problem at the moment

Well STAY HOME - the toilets are closed because they are not safe and we want to discourage masses of people travelling to the beach.

AuntyRigsby · 23/05/2020 00:56

We all peed in bushes as best we could. If they won't open the toilets, needs must, and no one can really complain!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 23/05/2020 01:00

We all peed in bushes as best we could. If they won't open the toilets, needs must, and no one can really complain!

Ugh.
People really can be minging.

AuntyRigsby · 23/05/2020 01:16

Ugh.
People really can be minging.

All that grim grim staying hydrated and urinating 🤢

It really ought to be banned.

Corks maybe? @Lemonade would only need a small one Grin

TimeWastingButFun · 23/05/2020 01:49

The trouble with the numbers on the beach is that the good weather and number of people not at work/school combined make all day, every day, like a summer bank holiday. And I personally would avoid a beach on a bank holiday so I'm staying away for a while yet. Especially with the thought of people pooping on the beach and peeing in the sea 🤮💩
