Neighbour talking on phone in garden all day and taking calls on speaker phone

Since the lockdown the neighbour has decided to sit in the garden and work. He talks all his call in the garden, talking loudly. Its 6:30 pm and he is still on his phone. I can hear him in my living room! I can also hear all the the participants on the phone! It starts at 10 am and goes on till 7 pm. I cant keep the patio doors open or the noise will be horrendous! Talking to him wont work, they are not the type you can reason with. Its driving me mad! Any suggestions? Maybe I should play music, loudly!!

This is without a doubt a "fight fire with fire" situation OP!

Moanranger · 21/05/2020 01:53

I have a neighbour somewhat like this, basically loves noisy activities & completely clueless, what works is:
(Me ) -“Oi, can you stop that - now” when said neighbour was riding his chopper style motorcycle around his garden.
(Me) “Shut the f**k up now!” Any noisy activity late at night - he has a hot tube ATM.
These shouted through the hedge.
a) very effective, and
b) he is terrified of me - I like it!

Slip Knot REALLY loud. It'll terrify the fucker 😊😊

Whocutdownthecherrytree · 21/05/2020 02:05

Music. Play loud, cheesy music

eeehbyegum · 21/05/2020 02:50

Your Neighbour is an arse.

I live with a similar neighbour issue.

He's in his garden 6am to 11pm every day. Building a shed. He built a shed last year too - and the year before - same hours. I'm done! Shed's don't need that much building.
I want to go in my garden and not expect someone over the fence listening/ doing etc. From now I want to live in a field. No neighbours please!

1moreRep · 21/05/2020 07:01

just a thought if be careful of sweary rap, you don't want to annoy or upset your other nice neighbours or their kids?

i think bewitched will do the trick, say you will

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/05/2020 08:50

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/05/2020 08:52

@1moreRep they have screaming kids! I had to ask them to stop screaming. the screaming would start at midday and go on till 6 pm. they stopped and I thought, pheew! Finally. And the next day the neighbour on the other side made his office in the garden :( Im cursed!

@eeehbyegum Take me with you! I have had enough of people! Living in a field with animals sounds great.

Can you work out which company he's employed with? If so, just call them and let them know he's giving out details of their business to all the neighbours. It's a bit of a nuclear option, so maybe try the other suggestions first!

diddl · 21/05/2020 09:10

Well I wouldn't be playing shit music unless I couldn't hear it!

Romanhistorytimes · 21/05/2020 09:17

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue

(smile) this is the best idea! Please do this OP!!

limitedperiodonly · 21/05/2020 09:59

Is he "in property" @UnshakenNeedsStirring? Estate and managing agents are the worst for having loud, self-important calls on speakerphone. Closely followed by buy-to-let landlords and surveyors. They often stride about to make sure the maximum number of people can hear them.

I live on a corner and the two roads have hardly any traffic, but there's a big rental market and the corner is a popular meeting point for agents and clients or landlords hoping to squeeze an extra bedroom in the cupboard under the stairs.

I don't know why they don't arrange to meet in one of the many local cafes, but no, my house is a fucking magnet for them, patrolling the front and then back again making call after call until the other person turns up, usually on his phone too.

I usually seethe in silence but I have shouted 'STF up!' through the window and watched them wonder where it's come from.

We have a lot of builders because of them, but they are generally okay, as are my neighbours.

DeeCeeCherry · 21/05/2020 10:02

My neighbour is very loud OP so I really sympathise with you. It's horribly grating. Loud strident voice, it's even worse on the phone. Shes not WFH she's just talkative. I have earplugs as she starts in the morning. But I can't wear earplugs all day and I've had enough. I also don't want to hear every word of her personal conversations. DB visited (before lockdown) I hadn't mentioned situation to him and when he heard her, he was shocked and said he'd find it hard to live with that. She still has family & friends over during lockdown and she ups the ante then, lots of shouting across rooms and in garden. I'm speaking to her about it next time I see her, it's far too intrusive and she's on my last nerve now

LastInTheQueue · 21/05/2020 10:52

I had a similar issue - NDNs would have shouty, speaker phone conversations with their family, very loudly and in Spanish (this is relevant).
It stopped after they heard me on the phone in the garden, and I was telling my friend how impressed I was that NDN’s dad was managing over 7000 steps a day in his small Madrid apartment. Neighbours didn’t know I spoke Spanish, and just like that they’ve taken their family calls inside.

Windyatthebeach · 21/05/2020 11:02

Our ndn woke me up cleaning his sports car with a tiny scrubbing brush this morning...
His dw rings her relatives in Thailand and they must be hard of hearing because her voice is top volume. Calls last minimum 4 hours.
In the back garden.
Maybe need to learn stfu in Thai...

TheSmelliestHouse · 21/05/2020 11:10

How has it gone today? Which form of retaliation did you go with?

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/05/2020 11:17

What you need my friend is bagpipes. Bagpipes played by a beginner.

Or start your own loud phone call along the lines of "blah blah blah COMPETITOR blah blah blah keyword from his conversation blah blah blah SECURITY BREACH blah blah blah GDPR blah blah blah...".

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/05/2020 11:19

@limitedperiodonly no idea, he seems to be acting like a big shot, but the house is paid for by council. Hes started again exactly at 10 ish. Im playing Rammstein and I can still hear him!!

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/05/2020 11:29
