Since the lockdown the neighbour has decided to sit in the garden and work. He talks all his call in the garden, talking loudly. Its 6:30 pm and he is still on his phone. I can hear him in my living room! I can also hear all the the participants on the phone! It starts at 10 am and goes on till 7 pm. I cant keep the patio doors open or the noise will be horrendous! Talking to him wont work, they are not the type you can reason with. Its driving me mad! Any suggestions? Maybe I should play music, loudly!!

Omg I would have a blast with this. Find some really sweary rap and play it LOUD. I would buy a trampoline and set it so he could see me jumping on it. I would take up sculpture with hammer drills and the like.
I fondly imagine tracy emin making art loudly, I would emulate that.
Have your own phone calls loudly about buying a shark and how many litres of formaldehyde you may need. Shit like that.
Immediately he goes in you stop. Train him like a dog.

SunflowerSeedsForever · 20/05/2020 18:48

There is lots of advice on this from airport lounge threads

basically join in- use the names of the participants

I once had this on a train- I googled the chap and found his name- he answered with his name. As we left the train I leant in and told him that I worked for XX (their biggest competitor) and I had found the conversations very helpful (he was talking about bidding for another company). I didn't but he looked petrified and ran after me but I blanked him.

SunflowerSeedsForever · 20/05/2020 18:49

Another time I sent someone on a train an email- telling him that the whole carriage had had enough. Panic as he looks drown trying to see who it was. Again he gave his name out and I could see his company from his laptop.

SunflowerSeedsForever · 20/05/2020 18:51

Mostly I just do the Dom Jolly thing- shouting, I'm on the phone, I AM ON THE PHONE.

Sicario · 20/05/2020 18:52

I lost my shit with a man on a train once and shouted at him, "excuse me but have we all bought a ticket to sit in your FUCKING OFFICE???"

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 20/05/2020 18:52

Oh god - I do this! And am in a leafy suburb of SE London! Am hoping it’s not me you’re referring to!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 20/05/2020 18:53

Beyond rude and inconsiderate.
DH is a bit deaf and tends to shout a bit on the phone but I close doors and windows ..... he’d never go outside

Zaphodsotherhead · 20/05/2020 18:53

It's got to be a security risk, surely?

But I second the strimmer. There is something particularly nerve-wrenching about the 'nyeeeeeeeee' pitch they work at. Do all your garden edges. Then do them again. Then do all your neigbours'. Except his.

billy1966 · 20/05/2020 18:55

Really loud classical music in your garden.

I wouldn't have put up with that.

As loud as you can bear it.

What an ignorant person.

LakieLady · 20/05/2020 18:55

I think opera might have a better irritation factor than rap, especially Wagner. And it will make him think you're highbrow!

Most annoying might be to borrow a really barky dog, the sort that goes apeshit at the slightest noise. If all his business calls were done with barking dogs in the background, that will soon piss him off.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 20/05/2020 18:55

@ jamaisjedors Just ordered a lawnmover on Amazon. I need one. Gets delivered on Friday. Until then I will play Rammstein Cant get pussy in Germany! Lol

@ LakieLady I could download loud dog barking noises and play it! Great idea

sing off key opera or anything you like or vacuum with your back door open (check you tube for suggestions) remember the whole point is off key

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 20/05/2020 18:58

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 20/05/2020 19:02

Phew - I’m pretty close but I doubt even my booming voice will make it all the way across the heath! Note to self - take calls indoors.

granadagirl · 20/05/2020 19:03

My ndb does this, phone and FaceTime !!
She thinks she’s someone, better than us
We can hear everything she talks about

???? do u want a drink if champagne, pop
Bet it’s bloody Prosecco
Radio, loud
Bloody gc round everyday with dd, who’s louder than mum if at all possible

Now we’ve got new couple + 2 kids other side. Who wife is also loud speaking.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 20/05/2020 19:04

@Grumpylockeddownwoman Lol. Its so beautiful outside and I can see why he wants to sit out but talking one conference call after another in a loud voice in a mid terrace property is painful to others.

@granadagirl I feel your pain! Complain to the council

Would you like to borrow my son and his acoustic drum kit? Free for a bit of board and dinner. Can you tell I've had enough of no school??? 😂😂😂

Toomuchtrouble4me · 20/05/2020 19:06

Power washers are REALLY noisy - does the patio need doing?

onemouseplace · 20/05/2020 19:06

My neighbours do this with video calls. I actually had to run upstairs and check they weren't having illicit houseguests the other week as it sounded like they had about 6 people in their garden - no it was just a bloody Zoom call.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 20/05/2020 19:07

@Brakebackcyclebot Gladly!! I have a teenager whos not interested in talking to me unless he is hungry. Be good to have some company and he can drive my neighbour mad with the drums!

OP posts:
Grumpylockeddownwoman · 20/05/2020 19:10

100% agree. I think it’s because I always work from home so usually no one is around, so it just hasn’t occurred to me to not speak on the phone outside. Will stop with immediate effect.

DarkDarkNight · 20/05/2020 19:11

That’s so rude and inconsiderate. Don’t let him stop you from opening your patio doors. I would play music loudly. Is your teenager’s room overlooking the back garden? Maybe he can open the window and blast some tunes.

Grumpylockeddownwoman · 20/05/2020 19:11

There’s a great thread about a zoom music class of recorders going on - you could ask the OP if you can join in next time and play it full blast Grin
