to not want DH to 'clean' with Zoflora

My husband does his fair share of cleaning, but does it a bit crap. I have largely put up with this as I am aware he is trying, it is just about livable with and I am aware other men are MUCH, MUCH worse than my husband. DH is also aware of this and reminds me.

However, the latest bugbear is that he insists on using Zoflora to 'clean the kitchen' i.e. wiping down surfaces after preparing a meal. Despite my repeated insistence it is a disinfectant, not a cleaning product and should be used after cleaning, if at all.

AIBU to think he should use a cleaning product instead?

I use zoflara to wipe down the sides and everything else

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2020 15:47

As long as it's diluted that's fine

PrincessBuggerPants · 20/05/2020 15:47

Why?

ReincarnatedDodo · 20/05/2020 15:48

You should be using disinfectant on surfaces at the moment.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/05/2020 15:48

Hmm I don’t really use it but can’t really see why it’s an issue?

emmathedilemma · 20/05/2020 15:49

I'm looking at this (not being familiar with zoflora) and struggling to see what your issue is

longearedbat · 20/05/2020 15:50

I wouldn't use zoflora on food prep surfaces - actually I don't use it at all as I can't stand the smell. However, what struck me about your post op, is your husband is 'trying to clean but is a bit crap' . Well, yes, this is a well known ploy to get out of doing things so I would be getting him to do lots of cleaning, as practice makes perfect.
Hide the zoflora though.

HavelockVetinari · 20/05/2020 15:50

A disinfectant IS a cleaning product!

CallmeAngelina · 20/05/2020 15:50

Just waiting for the inevitable post saying you should feel lucky he's doing any cleaning at all, you know, what with him having a penis.

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/05/2020 15:51

When he cleans you let him crack on and when it’s your turn you do it your way. But to chip in I think What he’s doing is perfectly reasonable

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/05/2020 15:51

DH does loads of cleaning at our house but I’ve never actually asked what he cleans with! Could be window cleaner for all I know.

Blackdog19 · 20/05/2020 15:52

What’s wrong with diluted zoflora?

19lottie82 · 20/05/2020 15:52

Zoflora won’t clean as such, only disinfect. I always clean my kitchen with flash or equiv then go over with zoflora.

DartmoorChef · 20/05/2020 15:52

Its fine to clean work surfaces and any other areas with.

19lottie82 · 20/05/2020 15:54

It just won’t be any use cleaning greasy surfaces.

ReincarnatedDodo · 20/05/2020 15:54

OP, you should feel really grateful that your husband does any cleaning at all.

You are very, very fortunate.

Does he have a feminine side to him at other times? You should LTB. This is not normal behaviour and he's probably a closet crossdresser having multiple affairs.

MondeoFan · 20/05/2020 15:54

I think it's fine as long as it's diluted properly

myself2020 · 20/05/2020 15:54

@HavelockVetinari not really. disinfectants remove loads if bacteria, but they don’t clean as such. a good cleaning product does a lot more than disinfect: it also removes grease/fat and limestone (for example). if you don’t do that as well, any”cleaning” is very shortlived (and the surface is grim!), as new bacteria etc just quickly settle on the greasy rough surface. Yuck!

PrincessBuggerPants · 20/05/2020 15:56

@CallmeAngelina you only had to wait until the next post Grin.

I have hidden the Zoflora @longearedbat

@emmathedilemma try this instead of Zoflora marketing: experthometips.com/uses-for-zoflora

myself2020 · 20/05/2020 15:57

Disclaimer: i used to work for a detergent manufacturer. worksurfaces that are only disinfected but never properly cleaned is beyond grim!

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/05/2020 15:58

Oh god, I could never be arsed to go over the same surfaces twice. Is there any actual need for zoflora or does a normal cleaning product do the trick?
I have some zoflora but have never used it (not sure why I bought it really). Don’t think I’ll bother if you have to clean first!

LolaSmiles · 20/05/2020 15:59

Surely that depends if he really is doing the 'poor me I can't clean' routine, or whether it's a case of 'man doesn't clean or do chores the way partner does so must be crap'.
I know a couple where she 'jokes' about her DP's uselessness around the house. As far as I can tell his crimes are using a general all purpose cleaner for surfaces and not loading the dishwasher the same way she does.

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 16:00

You should clean first and then disinfect. I thought everyone knew this...

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/05/2020 16:01

I thought everyone knew this...

I haven’t got much interest in cleaning particularly so no, never researched it. I just clean.

PrincessBuggerPants · 20/05/2020 16:02

@Lolasmiles his other crimes are spending a spectacularly long period of time to do anything, i.e. 90 minutes spent cleaning the 2mx2m bathroom the other day, and somehow not getting round to cleaning the shower screen or the floors for example. Or boiling my bras with his jeans.

All purpose cleaner would be fine, and my preference.
