to not want DH to 'clean' with Zoflora

PrincessBuggerPants · 20/05/2020 15:43

My husband does his fair share of cleaning, but does it a bit crap. I have largely put up with this as I am aware he is trying, it is just about livable with and I am aware other men are MUCH, MUCH worse than my husband. DH is also aware of this and reminds me.

However, the latest bugbear is that he insists on using Zoflora to 'clean the kitchen' i.e. wiping down surfaces after preparing a meal. Despite my repeated insistence it is a disinfectant, not a cleaning product and should be used after cleaning, if at all.

AIBU to think he should use a cleaning product instead?

It sounds fine to me.

Inertia · 20/05/2020 18:34

YANBU- on it's own, disinfectant isn't the most effective cleaning product for the type of cleaning you'd need in the kitchen. A de-greasing detergent spray would be more effective in actually removing grease and dirt, surely? Then you use disinfectant after cleaning for surfaces you need to sanitise.

Drivingdownthe101

Sometimes knowing basic food hygiene might prevent people becoming ill, food poisoning is statistically highest from eating at home.

Aridane · 20/05/2020 18:37

Life is too short for knowing or practising this

No point shortening your life due to not knowing stuff though

Because in a domestic kitchen I am going to die through not practising cleaning and disinfecting?!

ivykaty44 · 20/05/2020 18:40

Basic food hygiene can help prevent you getting sick, part of food hygiene is prep areas.

pennylane83 · 20/05/2020 18:44

If you have pets you really shouldn't use zoflora on the floor as it is posinous to them.

Reallynowdear · 20/05/2020 18:50

OK, I've looked on Zoflara website and can't find a definition between cleaning and disinfecting with their product.

What is the difference between the two when using this product, genuine question?

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 18:55

It might not be a matter of life and death, but it could definitely be the deciding factor as to whether or not you or someone more vulnerable gets something like norovirus.

Yolo2 · 20/05/2020 18:56

Wow people using flash and then zoflora.
.. overkill. All the chemicals (particularly putting one one top of the other in a short space of time) will probably do you more harm than anything

begoniapot · 20/05/2020 18:58

I just tip a couple of capfuls in hot water then add washing up liquid to do the actual cleaning and degreasing. Love the smell. Added to the floor mop water makes the whole house smell lovely.

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 18:58

I certainly don’t use flash and then Zoflora...

(Apparently I am more interested in cleaning than I thought!)

onesmalldog · 20/05/2020 19:02

I use Zoflora for the floors and drains only - meaning the floor water goes down the drain and cleans it by proxy when I've finished with it.

I wouldn't feel happy about wiping surfaces with it that were going to be used for food prep but I am a bit of a minimalist when it comes to cleaning - I clean the bathroom with a sponge, a bit of fairy liquid and water and a cloth only - apart from the toilet, of course.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/05/2020 19:05

Very hot soapy water in our house, thoroughly each time we cook so no build up of grease whatsoever.

Flash to mop the floor.

We never get norovirus or the like and are all in rude health.

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 19:16

That’s because you’re thoroughly disinfecting with the very hot soapy water

Omg I’m going to have to go and do some virtual window shopping or something to get myself disengaged from this discussion!

One ale down, another go go! 🍺

What strikes me here is that no one is pointing out that it's his house too, his chores too and so he has just as much of a right to do it his way as you do to do it your way when you're doing it. If you posted here saying "my husband insists that I clean his way when I'm cleaning" then I'm certain all the people who are saying he's in the wrong now would still say he's in the wrong then. Let the man have some autonomy. Explain to him why you'd like it done a certain way and if he doesn't agree then that's his prerogative.

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 19:24

People have pointed that out, I think...

quarantinevibes · 20/05/2020 19:35

yabu I wish my husband would use zoflora Grin 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 can’t get enough of it

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/05/2020 20:09

I actually think there’s going to be some sort of epidemic of lung disorders amongst women in the future. It’s a ticking time bomb. It’s really not good for people to be sloshing these harsh chemicals about so frequently.

LolaSmiles · 20/05/2020 20:41

People have pointed that out, I think...
We have.
And the OP has clarified that some of it isn't just a different way, but a different way and some irritating procrastination or half jobs.

‘‘Twas ever this

lifebeginsat16 · 21/05/2020 17:34

It has anti viral action too - says on the label

BonusMamaJ · 21/05/2020 17:45

For after us Zoflora is fine
The surfaces are cleaned by the wiping down, disinfecting them is a good call.
I personally would be cleaning them with something else before preparing food on them though as zoflora leaves a taste in my opinion.
I clean before food prep as a matter of course though

Ineke · 21/05/2020 17:51

I use diluted Zoflora on clean surfaces to zap corona. I spray it on all my parcels and post and leave to dry before opening post. I spray it on all door handles and on my credit cards after making a payment that is not contactless. I alternate between this and the brilliant Dettol. I may well pick up the virus outside the house on my hands, so I spray my hands too if I cannot find any hand sanitizer but I can at least know for sure its not inside. Outside Sainsbury's I watched in horror as a young woman use her card in the cash point, no gloves, no wipes, no awareness, she then went shopping with trillions of bacteria on her finger tips. So, your husband will be getting rid of bacteria and viruses, but not necessarily cleaning grease and grime off surfaces, but it's better than nothing.

galaxybuttons · 21/05/2020 17:54

I clean with a kitchen cleaning spray then use Zoflora as it kills bacteria and viruses ( and I like the linen smell!). Just makes sense I think to clean 1st and then disinfect for extra protection.

Ineke · 21/05/2020 17:56

Pennylane, just read your post about Zoflora being poisonous to pets, does it say this on the bottle?
